Indoor shooting range met with resistance

The email below went out to individuals who have trained under Ralli Mottar in Pawnee, Illinois. He teaches a variety of classes, shooting skills and trains police agencies, FBI and individuals in the Springfield area. He is one of us and a great guy. His letter to his current and past customers is self-explanatory. There were 36 "Like" posted on Facebook as of a few minutes ago. Don't confuse a "Like" as a vote of support for of his proposed shooting range. It's just the opposite. Most of the comments are from opposing views at this point. I just posted support and ask you to light up this page on his behalf. Even though you aren't a member, you can still make a statement based on your experience with an indoor shooting range. Thanks.

Hi Folks,

I need some help. As some of you know, I am working on a 15 yard pistol shooting range to qualify folks for the conceal carry classes. It will be open to you as a member only.

It is on a lot directly across the street from the store.

The store has been zoned business for over 40 years. I am requesting two things from the Pawnee Village.

One is to rezone the lot from trailer ( remember, we tore down a junk trailer on it) to business. That has been recommended by the Zoning Board to proceed for a vote to the Village Board ( probably on July 8th.

Second, I would like setbacks to be minimized to place the shooting range on the property so it utilized the space for parking and to look the best. This has not been met with by the zoning board yet.

In the meantime, the neighbors to the North, ( specifically the wife) does not want "the nasty gun range" next to her. I hate guns"

She is very anti gun in-spite of her husband owning an "arsenal" as he told me. Their daughter has started a anti gun sight on facebook to get people scared of the range.

Please if you have facebook, log in to this page and give your opinion.

I have said I am willing to speak with anyone, but they don't want facts and adult conversation. They want to scare people. Help me in setting the record straight. Maybe if it comes from the people that have trained with us, it will help others to understand.

My personal take on this issue, and this is just my opinion, I wouldn't want a firing range next door to my house either. Does this city have a noise ordinance that prohibits sound from transmitting from this building at a certain decibel at a certain distance. I doubt you could afford a building that will muffle the sound so it isn't heard at the boundary of the property. This type of business should be in a commercial area, not in the middle of a residential area.

If it's built right there is no issue. Chicago Ridge gun range was in a public business but 30 feet behind the back of the building are allot of houses. I worked next door to them and hardly heard then. they are long gone now but it's possible.

Mobile homes behind and around it, now it's a paintball shop or at least next to it.... Aggressive I think it is called

The link doesn't work because it was removed from Facebook. Apparently, those in favor of the range began voicing their opinions in large numbers. If part of those responses came from you...thank you.

There are actual homes behind them. The mobile homes are next to the strip mall. Yea I worked at Aggressive paintball for a few years. The gun range is a tattoo parlor now.

Come and build it next door to my house. I would love to have both you and your range as a neighbor....

If anyone has concerns about noise just stop by American Firearms in Peoria and spend a little time in their parking lot. You can barely hear anything....

I would far rather have an indoor range, properly constructed, than the kids going by in their cars with their "boom - boom - BOOM" stereos blaring rap music -- now that is truly noise pollution....!!!
