Article also says McLean hasn't prosecuted a case since December for CCW by law abiding was the only factor. Stealth CCW approval there.

You want to go from permitless carry per County rules to a harsh permitting system? I say nuts to that. Yes I know Cook and some counties will suck after the cliff, but that can be litigated out, once we are stuck with HB183 we're stuck. I'm not even in one of the good counties right now, but the ISRA would be wise to consider how they will be throwing the downstate gun owners under the bus if most of those counties go FOID carry per county rules and they push for HB183.

But that could be changed at the whim of the SA couldn't it?

No bad as the bill is it's better than what we have now - what would be interesting is for an SA to say 'I'm only going to charge an otherwise legal person who wanders into a verboten zone with simple tresspass.'

One state one law.

Also who says these SA's are going to START charging people under UUW again if 183 becomes law?

If you are going to carry on just the sayso of your local SA then expect to be inconvenienced if pulled over by the ISP and be really really really sure about where the county line is in relation to you.

The ISP as far as I know is going to keep arresting people for UUW, so a few hours or maybe a day later the SA refuses to charge and you go free..still a pain in the butt. Any system where you have to spend time in the back of a cruiser or a day in jail over a right is flawed.

Es ist verboten!

Yeah, I just see a big uprising against the ISRA if many of the downstate countys go FOID carry (court carry, SA carry, Russel, whatever you wanna call it) for awhile and then have that stripped away from them to wait 180 days for ILSP to get their act together, pay for training, pay for a permit, and then wait another 90 days for the permit.

All the options suck right now. I just don't see it going well if freedom is stripped away from a large chunk of the pro-gun IL population.

Who knows; maybe we end up with a pro gun Gov. after the next election and start to look more like Wisconsin; it could happen Mr. Potatohead is just that unpopular.

Macon County States Attorney Jay Scott and Macon county sheriff Tom Schneider are set to be on WAND tv tonight to make a formal statement of some sort... They are also meeting with several gun rights advocates on Friday to go over plans for carry in Macon County. I actually talked to Mr. Scott today on the phone for about 20 minutes or so. He is VERY pro 2A and has made the statement that they are after the criminals, not the law abiding citizens. His main concern (and I have to say that I agree with him) is that by allowing FOID carry, there is absolutely no training involved at all. His exact comment was - To get a FOID card, you only need to prove you have no criminal history. Not that you know how to handle a firearm. That means that Aunt ??? can apply for a FOID, purchase a weapon she has no idea how to use, and be carrying it on the street. What would happen if that same woman (or man for that matter) then accidentally shot a kid or another person simply because they weren't trained to handle the weapon? .. Who would the victims family come after? It would be the states attorney for allowing and not prosecuting persons for carrying.

To this point, I actually agree with him. I suggested that the basic pistol completion certification pocket card (which the Bullet Trap in Decatur Illinois provided to me when I completed the course) be also a requirement for being able to carry in Macon County. Mr. Scott seemed to like that idea and said it would be suggested in the meeting on Friday.

I know I will probably take some flack for my above comment but it is the way I actually feel. I have done "Some" training and have taken my NRA basic pistol class. I plan to take more classes and learn as much as I can. I think that we (as gun owners and Concealed Carriers) have a HUGE responsibility to not only the public, but to ourselves to continue our training. I pray with everything in my body, that I NEVER have to pull my weapon or take another human life. If I do, I pray just as hard, that I have done the right thing and taken the RIGHT life.
