I finally brought this puppy home. I didn't have time to stick around and shoot it, but I'll be hitting the range sometime during the week. Anyway, GATS kicks arse!

Sorry for the crappy pics, the camera on my phone is going bad...

I shoot and (when in a free state) carry a PPS 9mm. Haven't used a PPQ yet. Looks nice. Enjoy!

Very nice! I was hoping this was a for sale thread at first glance ;)

I am going to add one of the M2's to my lineup for sure. How much did it cost you out the door?

$720.54 out the door (with the Gats lifetime warranty). I saved $33 versus buying it at Cabela's where the price of the gun was $669 and I would've had to pay the $25 Cook County extortion gun tax. :getlost:

Enjoy, personally not a fan of the M2 revision (I like the paddle mag release) either way I love shooting my PPQ, looking to get a few more this year...

Yeah, I kind of like the paddle mag release too. I read that Walther is going to start selling the M1 version again in 2014, but I didn't wanna wait that long.

I know a guy that just got one for his first pistol. They definitely have a uniquely comfortable grip. The trigger reset is really short. He accidentally touched off a second shot after his first when he first started shooting it.

I like how you can lift up on the back of the slide to lock it back. The rear sight is quite wide which they say is good from what Ive read. He paid $560 out the door nib.

If you don't quite have the money for a PPQ the PPX's trigger feels almost the same though not quite as nice. Cant speak to the reliability of it though. The problem will be a lot of people, even in the LEO community seem to think the trigger pull is to light/short on the PPQ for a duty gun. Its not much different than the SA pull on a SIG or a H&K if you ask me.

Only thing that annoys me is that they didn't make the M2 magazines backwards compatible, I could see it being an issue finding magazines for my "Classic" PPQ in the future.

They push those warranties on everything for some odd reason. If I'm not mistaken, Walther has a lifetime warranty and any claims/repairs are handled by S&W. See if you can get your $$$ back b/c GAT, last time I checked, did not have a full-time on-site 'smith. S&W also sends you a shipping label if you ever need to have it serviced...so you basically paid $33 for a service that's essentially included in the price of the pistol.

Last time I bought a gun there (Wilson Combat CQB) I had this conversation with the gun counter guys;

Salesguy 1 - would you like a lifetime warranty for 5% of the selling price?

Me - doesn't this gun have a lifetime warranty?

Salesguy 1 - but that doesn't cover shipping

Me - So you don't repair it here?

Salesguy 1 - we don't have a smith here that does repairs aside from installing new sights, new triggers, etc

Me - If the gun breaks, who fixes it?

Salesguy 1 - we ship it back to Wilson Combat

Me - So I'd basically pay $150 for you to ship a gun that will probably never break?

Salesguy 2 to Salesguy 1 - Wilson covers shipping and it's a lifetime warranty

Salesguy 2 to me - don't buy the warranty, it's useless.

I am able to use paddle release much easier than button...

Great gun.

I went through the same thought process with the Gat's warranty issue when I bought my daughter a S&W Model 63.

If I ever bought a Taurus from Gat's I'd get their in-house warranty because you never know if Taurus is going to cover shipping or not, and they've been known to go back and forth several times before getting fixed.

Walther isn't importing through S&W any more, that deal expired end of 2012. Now Walther USA is doing their own thing, and will actually be marketing their products (it was an odd arrangement, why would S&W do anything to sell more Walthers when they're competing head-to-head with the M&P line?)

PPQ has the best trigger of any striker-fired pistol I've ever used. Biding my time for a .40 M2 in 4"

Like others, I've got the PPQ "Classic" with the paddle mag release, and since I started with an H&K P30L, it feels natural, and I prefer it over the button mag release.

It's hands down the nicest out of the box polymer, striker fired trigger that I've found, and I control it much better than I ever did the P30.

Price seems a little steep, and I have an issue with GAT since they were gouging heavily lately ($34.99 for a box of 50 Federal 115 grain....c'mon now....) but at $720, it's still a great buy and a tremendously enjoyable gun to shoot.

I'm waiting now for the 5", although I'd rather have the paddle drop so I can use my P99 and PPQ mag's, I may take a bite of the apple and pick one up when it finally does hit.

Congrats!

Sundevil, Walther just announced they're going to produce the M1 (paddle style) in the new 5" models later this year, it's not gone forever. Might be worth the wait.

I had not seen that, I just knew that the 5" were going to be M2 this summer, I had not heard they were going to import the 5" paddle style this year....I will definitely be all over that.

20 odd mags....yeah....I really dont want to switch and have to buy new ones!

Thanks for passing that on.

Has anyone done a side by side of the M1 & M2 magazines? I'm curious how different they are and if they could be 'modded' to work universally... I know I had to mod the front lip on all my S&W .40 magazines to make them work in the Walther, didn't take me long I just made a jig for my chop saw, with a little file clean up, and bluing I was golden just curious if there is hope in modding the M1 and M2 magazines as they are already in short supply and costly...

I was talking it over with the cashier, and basically she said that if anything ever went wrong with the gun and it needed to be shipped out, they would handle all of that. I guess it's $32 I could deal with parting with, especially since I didn't have to pay the $25 cook county extortion fee. I'm hoping I'll never have to use it, but in the case that I'll ever have to, I'm going to make GATS live up to their warranty.

The Classic mags seemed to come in again recently, I know a lot of people who picked them up. The Magnum Research ones are about $33 for 15 rounders:

Cross Creek has 20+ in stock, and I've ordered quite a few items from him in the last year, good guy, very fast ship.

The M2 mags though are definitely hard to track down, a big reason why I do not want to go that route.

As for the difference between them, there are 2 notches cut in the M2 that are not present on the Classic mag. I know some folks have modified their Classic/P99 mags to fit, here is an illustration of what the difference is:

Here is a thread where people have discussed doing it: http://www.waltherforums.com/forum/ppq/27206-ppq-m2-mags-not-compatible-m1.html
