Bud Posted May 25, 2013 at 05:31 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 05:31 PM We have no idea (well, maybe a little idea) of what will be required for the 16 hour training but tentatively we will be teaching the NRA Basic Pistol Course on Saturday and a second eight hours on Sunday. We are considering charging $50.00 for the Saturday portion which will include the Basic Pistol shooting and then $50.00 for the Sunday portion which will be the Illinois specific training and the State qualification fire. We are pretty firm on the dollar amount as long as what we understand the training requirements to be are in fact what actually happens. If you are interested in enrolling we will have an enrollment form on your website sometime this weekend. In the meantime, you can send an email to the range manager at: contact@buffalorangeshootingpark.com We will need to know your name, telephone number, email address and how much of the training you want to enroll for so we can know how many training packets we need to develop. First come, first served. It looks like we may do this every weekend beginning as soon as the training curriculum is approved the ISP.
BobPistol Posted May 25, 2013 at 05:37 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 05:37 PM So it is $150? If I bring my own ammo and pistols, the price is the same?
CGT Posted May 25, 2013 at 05:44 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 05:44 PM Thanks bud for all your support and efforts. Clintonwww.facebook.com/illinoisrighttocarry

Livewire18 Posted May 25, 2013 at 05:56 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 05:56 PM Thanks bud, this is a very generous thing to do, and I am sure it will not go unnoticed. I would like to personally say thanks, as well as publicly retract any previous statements I my have made about buffalo range. THIS RIGHT HERE proves that you guys at the range are very stand-up people!!!
C0untZer0 Posted May 25, 2013 at 06:05 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 06:05 PM I'm not sure how people at Buffalo or anywhere else are already instructors. Maybe I missed it, but how are trainers even certified? I am a certified NRA Instructor for Basic Pistol, but my understanding is that even for my own permit - I am only getting 8 hours grandfathered in. How does someone even become an instructor able to teach whatever Illinois course there is going to be ??
Bud Posted May 25, 2013 at 06:18 PM Author Posted May 25, 2013 at 06:18 PM I am a licensed Firearm Instructor and my license comes from the IL Department of Registration and Education. Right now, there are only about 200 IL licensed firearms instructor. To qualify for that license, i had to be a graduate of the IL Law Enforcement Training and Standrards Board's Police Fireamrs Instructor Course. I am also a graduate of the Army Infantry Center's Small Arms Instructor Training School at Fort Benning, GA But, if you read the bill, you will see how instructors will be certified by the State. The IL DRE does not currently license NRA pistol Instructors but I suspect that is about to change. The cost at Buffalo is $100 for a weekend which includes the Sat live fire for the NRA basic pistol and the 30 round round State qualification on Sundays. $100, or $50 per day if you only need one day, the State range qualification would be included. For those who do not need any of the training (a very small group, read the bill) the range qualification will be S30.00 and you can use all of the other ranges after the qualification One of the guys has come up with a good idea on helping to pay for folks who won't have the money and I suspect he will be starting a new thread pretty quickly
lockman Posted May 25, 2013 at 06:23 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 06:23 PM That was my question. I believe instructors will have to wait until after passage and some preliminary rules are released. I would hope that an instructor certification that taught the basic pistol would count for more than the credit the student gets.

flw Posted May 25, 2013 at 07:35 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 07:35 PM So it is $150? If I bring my own ammo and pistols, the price is the same? I'm 100% sure, that does not include that State Fee's Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Buzzard Posted May 25, 2013 at 07:38 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 07:38 PM The wife and I are interested. She would need the full 16 hour program while I would presumably need the 8 hour deal. I have taken theNRA Personal Protection Inside The Home and also a Basic Pistol class from the long defunct Midwest Tactical Training Institute. (which became Blackwater and has been through several other names) I'm sure she will want to attend to save the money - but she's currently a bundle of nerves from all the commotion and stress of planning, preparing, making arrangements, etc. for her fathers funeral. She just bit my head off just asking her to commit, so excuse my hesitation. Nevertheless, I'm sending an email. One question: What will be the minimum handgun requirement?
t1ryder4life Posted May 25, 2013 at 07:42 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 07:42 PM Just curious if there would be any way to do two Sundays instead of a Saturday/Sunday. Its almost impossible for me to get a Saturday off of work.
Vaden Posted May 25, 2013 at 07:47 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 07:47 PM Email sent, thank Bud and Buffalo for supporting the citizenry!
pdpsc Posted May 25, 2013 at 08:03 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 08:03 PM I am a licensed Firearm Instructor and my license comes from the IL Department of Registration and Education. Right now, there are only about 200 IL licensed firearms instructor. Bud: Do you mean the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)? If so, there are 415 active registered Firearm Instructors as of the end of March. To qualify, you must have have certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board; or from the NRA Law Enforcement Division; or "other firearm instructor training". I am not sure what they will take under the "other" category other than federal LE instructor training. I highly doubt they will open that up to civilian NRA instructors. You only need to register with IDFPR as a Firearm Instructor if you are going to teach the 20-hour Original Firearm Training course, re-certify people who have a Firearm Control Card (FCC), or teach courses that will qualify students for a Chicago Firearm Permit (CFP). Unless you use it for one or more of those three purposes, it's fairly useless right now. I suspect however that the ISP will either copy the IDFPR registration program for Firearm Instructors, or just flat out say you must register with IDFPR to be qualified as an instructor.
