Here's some more news from the capital

I've heard from some Dems at the capitol. Today Senate President Cullerton came to meet with the speaker. The President wanted to go to may issue, state police could deny on a whim, reduced training, and preemption, only for carrying. The Speaker turned him down on all three.

At this point the senate Dems are hoping that enough downstate Repubs walk away so they can pass their Cullerton/Kwame bill and they said that it will pass the house. The Senate Dems, particularly their leadership is scared to death of Madigans bill.

They have to pass a bill through the more liberal chamber that abolishes all local gun laws. Which scares the snot out of them. Their liberals are going crazy They have to give up on may issue, and all their other "wants". If this bill goes to the senate and they fail to pass it, it actually becomes the best chance to go over the cliff as Cullerton is on the hook.

And the scenarios get better from there if the House passes the bill.

We have the Speaker on our side for abolishing the Chicago ordinance. Maybe the stars are aligning. . .

I really don't think there are that many gun-control advocates in Illinois. Our fight has always been against the anti-gun politicians.

But for those 30 or 40 citizens who are anti-gun activists, they feel quite betrayed.

They were fine living under the tyrannical and corrupt Illinois system as long as the ideas of their rulers aligned with theirs, now that the situation is changed - they're getting a taste of Illinois politics...

IMHO... Phelps is a GENIUS... they will be BEGGING for 997 if this new bill is the alternative.

Let's hope so.

Based off of the happenings of the past few weeks... I totally understand how the speaker has consolidated as much power as he currently holds. Mark my words, 997 will be the ultimate bill and madigans supporters will thank him for seeing that it passed.

...all this against the backdrop of knowledge that the most masterful rug-yanker in the state is Mike Madigan.

If you are right I'll kiss you.

Also, while I am throwing out my tin foil hattery... this other bill will pass in the Senate, madigan will then let 997 pass, get it passed in the senate, and then destroy cullertons career. My guess would be this has to do with cullerton not towing the line on the pension reform.

Me too.

I am curious about the theory behind your conclusion, though, karim18.......

The minute I heard about this new bill, the first thought I had was "overton window"

To be clear, this is using an age old political tactic known as the overton window. You push a view so extreme that your actual view magically seems moderate and reasonable.

997 is no longer an option. The choice Madigan is offering is the Cullerton/Kwame bill or SB2193.

If Madigan does yank the football tomorrow, I am hoping that there would be such indignation over it that we'd have enough lawmakers who would have the courage to take us over the cliff...

Awww, let's us have our fantasies.

LOL at FA.

Madigan's done an almost 180 (ok, a 180) from his previous games, but I don't think he is doing it to our benefit- but for his daughter's benefit. As disgusting as it is to watch these people jockey for a mansion home, this need to "one up my biggest party rival" has turned into a fisticuffs show that immediately becomes amusing when king madigan decides to throw cullerton & rahm under the bus.

I've got spheres to declare that I'll be laughing all the way to the "cliff", but if 2193 fails and Madigan torpedos 183, I will conduct "the song and dance of my people" and exclaim "I've got a jar of dirt". Hopeful wishing and speculation, but I too snicker at the thought. Since I'm leaving Illinois I get to watch the spectacle with a bag of popcorn, but out of respect for those fighting the good fight I refrain from becoming the peanut gallery.

*pass the butter* Come on folks, Are you really going to trust Lucy with the football? we've all seen Peanuts.

If SB2193 passes... we should open a store next to rahm emmanuels office to sell PMAGS :) even if we never turned a profit, the sheer joy it would bring to us all every time the tiny dancer saw it and cringed would make it worthwhile

You'd make a massive profit. Chicago is an untapped market.

we will not go off the cliff and i see all the rep voting for it and almost all dems voting for it. Madigan is going to give it to Phelps.

If Cullerton had cast iron bb’s or wanted to out maneuver Madigan he could steal the language from 997 throw it in to a second reading bill from the house as a “replaces all“ and pass it. I would be a win for him because he would steal Madigan’s shine.
