wtr100 Posted May 23, 2013 at 12:50 PM Posted May 23, 2013 at 12:50 PM If it includes rifle, pistol and shotgun and was evenly split would that not mean the Kings men only need 13 hours of training while the peasants need 16?
klippr Posted May 23, 2013 at 01:12 PM Posted May 23, 2013 at 01:12 PM I had no rifle time, very little shotgun so most of our time was with the sidearm.

Bud Posted May 23, 2013 at 01:40 PM Posted May 23, 2013 at 01:40 PM Most specialized training, i.e. carbine, etc is planned, scheduled and run by the Mobile Training Units of the IL Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board

Rifle training is done at the department level, not the academy level, because not every department has them. I would say they spend around 35 hours on pistol and maybe 5 hours on shotgun. It can vary a bit from academy to academy and it has changed a bit over time. Years ago, they spent more time on shotgun, closer to 16 hours.
Tango7 Posted May 25, 2013 at 04:35 PM Posted May 25, 2013 at 04:35 PM As klippr said, most of the time is spent on sidearms. We spent a half a day or so and shot the required 15 rounds or so in the old 870. Being in a lucky class, just to say we did our instructor brought out his AR and let us pop three rounds apiece after a basic handling orientation, but like the shotty that was considered a "familiarization" more than an official certification or qualification.
