Bud Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:07 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:07 AM I will be starting training classes at Buffalo Range as soon as the bill becomes law. I am already licensed by the Illinois Department of Registration and Education. We have a distinct advantage at Buffalo Range in that we have no overhead costs. We already have a classroom and ranges and trained range officers to assist with the weapons qualification. Two of us are also certified NRA Basic Pistol instructors. So, we are going to offer classes really cheaply. When the first proposal was made, the four hours training and the range fire, we were going to price the entire package at $75.00. Sixteen hours plus qualification is a lot more time involvement but the basic expense to us remains the same. So, we will be really cheap. Once we figure out what we are going to do the training for, we will start advertising and that will result in either a landslide business for us or some really competitive rates among all the instructors giving classes. The market will dictate the final costs and i don't think it will be as bad as many of you think.
Patriots & Tyrants Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:09 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:09 AM Might have to take you up on that offer Bud!
TyGuy Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:11 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:11 AM I like the idea, and hopefully they'll let you stay open to do as much. It sounds like the state is giving you a really hard time.
03rev Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:14 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:14 AM This is probably a stupid question. Where is this buffalo range located?

RoadyRunner Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:24 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:24 AM Me too. I'll take a day off work to be there. I have 8 hours other state training - so would need the top off 8 plus range I guess.

colt-45 Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:31 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:31 AM I hope some one down here will do that to.
Buckfarrack Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:31 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:31 AM Thanks Bud. Thanks for your time too. Tell me the date and i will be there.
miztic Posted May 23, 2013 at 04:15 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 04:15 AM Bud you're a great guy for doing that!
Trevis Posted May 23, 2013 at 04:58 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 04:58 AM If we do end up stuck with that stinking turd of a bill, I'll head up there on my motorcycle and train all day. Count me in. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
samal Posted May 23, 2013 at 05:00 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 05:00 AM so, having the permit from FL and UT will automatically count towards as 8 hours or will I have to dig out a certificate or something?
Elderberry Posted May 23, 2013 at 05:02 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 05:02 AM Lord I do love free enterprise.... Count me in as a customer....
RockerXX Posted May 23, 2013 at 09:35 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 09:35 AM Good luck for those in the area... 4+ hours round trip (more like 6+ hours if it's anytime near Chicago rush hour) isn't worth it for me personally, any savings will likely be negated in gas cost and lost time...
AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted May 23, 2013 at 09:58 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 09:58 AM 16 hours. I am assuming 2 8 hour days? Put me on your list of people to contact. Might as well support an IC member.
Sub Hunter Posted May 23, 2013 at 10:36 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 10:36 AM About 2 hours for me, but I would do it to support Bud.

TTIN Posted May 23, 2013 at 11:50 AM Posted May 23, 2013 at 11:50 AM I hope some one down here will do that to.I don't know this, but it would be a good way for the new Tombstone range in Marion to make a really good first impression.

Kinda what I was thinking....... Should be ready to go in another week or so. :)

That's the way I look at it. When I took my Utah class I could have drove 5 minutes to bettendorf but instead I drove to Peoria because they are a member here.
pyre400 Posted May 23, 2013 at 02:03 PM Posted May 23, 2013 at 02:03 PM Good luck for those in the area... 4+ hours round trip (more like 6+ hours if it's anytime near Chicago rush hour) isn't worth it for me personally, any savings will likely be negated in gas cost and lost time... Several IC trainers have said they'd make a similar offering. What range do you typically go to? How long does it take to get there?
miztic Posted May 23, 2013 at 02:19 PM Posted May 23, 2013 at 02:19 PM Maybe we can work out a hotel deal, or all camp together near the range? I was going to commute by motorcycle as well (50 mpg).
jester121 Posted May 23, 2013 at 02:33 PM Posted May 23, 2013 at 02:33 PM Yeah, I really don't understand the people throwing around figures like $400-500 for training -- my Utah + Florida class (in Lake County, Illinois) was $125 including both sets of prints and photos, plus I think $20 for the range rental.
Nic Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:25 PM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:25 PM I plan on doing something very similar in the northern part of Cook Co. if they approve of NRA trainers. Offer classes at cost. I'd be volunteering my time and energy as long as materials and rental costs are covered.
Rockdiver Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:34 PM Posted May 23, 2013 at 03:34 PM Unless there is some absolutely ridiculous material that would have to be ordered by the state, 400 to500 dollars for what will amount to a basic pistol/ utah ccw/ 30 shot qualification would be rape. I don't mean it will be uncommon, because God knows there are plenty of instructors already planning to bank on this.... but what does the margin really have to be. Depending on venue we run around 160 for basic pistol..... That includes, InstructionMaterialRange FeesAll ammunition ( not just 22 rimfire, anything you choose to shoot)Firearm useLunchRefreshmentsAnd FL and AZ ccw apps filled out and signed afer class. Personally, if you want to spend another half hour going over defensive skill drills, mag change drills and want to try on a dozen holsters for the pistol you are interested in I am a happy camper. I want you to leave satisfied and comfortable. But I just don't see any real tangible increase in cost other than time and learning the new curriculum...And at this point, with all of the personal sacrifices people like Todd have laid on the table for Illinois, you would have to be a pretty cold fish to use the demand to further bilk your students. I hope it does not happen.( the bilking...not the carry)
