streakpi Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:10 PM Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:10 PM Thought I would say "thank you" to the anonymous gentlemen at our local O'Fallon Wal-Mart (here in the metro East STL area). I went in today at 1100 to buy some batteries. Of course I stopped by the ammo counter to get my kick in the stomach. I noticed a gentlemen standing there already...as always. In front of him was another guy. The guy almost breathing on the ammo case had his eyes on 5 boxes of WWB 9mm ammo!!!! No kidding!!! Since I was third "in line" I quickly assumed those two would buy all 5 boxes. We three started chatting as we waited for a Wal-Mart employee with a key. Turns out the first guy had been scouring stores all morning and had 700 rds of 9mm/40. This was his last score. He was getting his three boxes. The other guy was much cooler. We chatted about LGS charging sales tax on FFL transferred guns (BS!) and more about ammo purchases online. He also mentioned that he had been at this Wal-Mart a couple hours earlier and bought 3 x boxes of the 9mm. He just came in to get some more, wink wink. Well, the ammo counter guy came - opened up the case and the first guy disappeared with his 3 boxes. The second guy looked at me with my doe eyes and said - he can have the other two boxes...I will take 3 boxes of Tulammo 7.62. WIN! So, I walk out of Wal-Mart with 2 x 100rd boxes of WWB ammo ($24.97) each and a box of .40 ($34.97). Yeah! There is humanity in this world. BTW- I am making my FIRST trip this year to Cabelas (in St Louis) tomorrow morning. Doubt I will see kind of courtesy - but, what comes around goes around...unless I find some 22LR!!!! Thought I would share. Thank you Illinois.
BobPistol Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:16 PM Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:16 PM I normally shop for 22LR and 9mm, so when I saw a Winchester 45 box (100 round special) thinking I could trade it for 9 or 22...and someone was waiting there for the ammo guy, I asked her what she was buying. "the 45" I said "its yours"
Sweeper13 Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:16 PM Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:16 PM Gratz on getting the ammo. At least the guy was cool about letting you get it.
Kaeghl Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:18 PM Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:18 PM Something similar to this happened to me a while ago, and recently I noticed a lonely little box of 9mm in a case in a store. i figured, "pay it forward" and let another shooter who was jonesing over the 9mm to grab it up instead.
RockerXX Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:24 PM Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:24 PM I have passed up or skipped over a bunch of ammo at Walmart over the last few months, especially when there were people in line behind me looking for a caliber I had enough of for now...
bornhunter04 Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:53 PM Posted May 21, 2013 at 06:53 PM Nice, Maybe i need to start swinging by wal-mart on my way to work...... Since your going all the way out to cabelas might as well go a few miles further west and hit the trifecta, go to bass pro and just up the road on 5th street on the left side (where the road goes from 2 lane to 1) is graf's reloading.
RobR369 Posted May 21, 2013 at 07:53 PM Posted May 21, 2013 at 07:53 PM As of 1:30pm, Cabelas in Hammond had .22lr, 9mm, and 5.56 in stock. Picked up 5(max allowed) of the Remington 9mm for $16.99 each, price on the Winchester 500 rounds of the .22lr was $29.99. Still on the high side, but looks like its starting to come around
