I certainly have faith that the folks working on our behalf in Springfield are trying their best.  However, we have seen before concessions which achieve nothing but to embolden the other side.  The more we give, the more they ask for.  That's isn't the fault of our guys...good faith is being abused.  And, unfortunately, many on the other side of this issue have proven time an again that they are willing to take advantage of the good faith.

I saw Todd compared this struggle to a boxing match, and this is the 9th round.  I respectfully disagree.  In a boxing match, there are rules both sides must abide and someone overseeing those rules.  There are no rules for the other guys in this fight.  They have proven that time and again.  This is war...and not the kind of war that we have become accustom to in America.  This is war of the sort that we need a Patton for.  I don't know who our Patton is.  I have heard no one who speaks with the irreverence, the commitment, the fire, the passion, the fanaticism, the true blood and guts to fight this war.

"We're gonna keep fighting. Is that CLEAR? We're gonna attack all night, we're gonna attack tomorrow morning. If we are not VICTORIOUS, let no man come back alive!"

I apologize and retract my remarks, made, of course, in jest re "assault charges". It was thoughtless. Thought I was among friends, forgot about hostile readers.

Mods feel free to delete my message. (Post 10 this thread)

Can I confess there would be raised voices and uncomplimentary commentary without ruffling feathers?

My point, clumsily made, is I would not have Tod's patience in dealing with folks at the Capitol. Think most of us would agree on that.

Nor my bar tab, acid reflux, gray hair, and general disdain for those unclear on the concept. . . Just saying

Magpies are also known for collecting all sorts of glittery and colorful junk, and lining their nests with it, although I think I number of black birds do that.

I am getting the feeling that there are a number of moderate legislators out there who view the NRA and 2A activists as impediments to getting a carry bill. I think there may be pressure to exclude both sides - the NRA and the gun control extremists to just get something passed.

while gun control supporters have been included in the Senate talks, they have not been included in the House talks. from my understanding, the talks included a number of people from "our" side of the issue. unaware of any from the other side.

Are we set up or will we have the time to rally the troops to support or to call for defeat of whatever bill comes out of the negotiations?
If it is only a "background check", Why do they need the serial number of the firearm?

sounds like it may be a  exchange between the senate and house  possibly..  house passes cullertons pension reform bill in exchange for the senate passing phelps bill.

Remember Brandon Phelps?

He's one of those guys in Illinois Politics that keeps reminding us gun rights is not a partisan issue.

Who said anything about partisan politics when it comes to crimes?  Who cares who is what when they commit criminal actions?

I have to say, even if someone supports the 2nd Amendment as vigorously as Representative Phelps does, if that person were to commit a crime, they should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.  Democrat or republican, pro-gun or anti-gun, a criminal is a criminal.

Isn't that part of this fight?  Guns aren't the problem, criminals are...we should punish offenders whenever and wherever they commit the crime.  Even if they are at the top of the food chain, like the President, or at the bottom like me.  There are no demi-Gods here.

Partisan politics is in this fight too.  If Phelps were a republican, his bills would be getting laughed out of the House.  It is the very reason of partisan politics that he is such an effective advocate for us...a wolf in sheep's clothing for this issue.

I say that all politicians should start acting like AMERICANS instead of democrats and republicans. There is a constitution for a reason, and no it is not to fight about all day long.

AMERICANS, REPUBLICANS, WHO-GIVES-A-CRAP-ICANS.... They are Americans, and they should protect the constitution which is why they are there. They need to stop the bickering, arguing, and loose the bigger man syndrome and work together.
