Brandon

We have come to far to accept a bad bill now. I am not for a bad bill! I'm happy the way my new bill is headed. We will win this issue.

Even if Brandon is working on this without Todd right now, I'm not worried because I'm sure Todd has schooled him enough to know what is good and what is bad. I have faith. ONE STATE - ONE GOOD LAW

True, but why would they leave out a major player (Todd) in all of this? Surely they must know that if there is language he/we disapprove of, it's not going any where.

guys there are a lot of things at play. some of it is only becoming clear this morning. I do believe that Brandon and Co. are trying to do the best that they can considering the circumstances of Chicago dominated control of leadership, and Chicago's presense in Illinois politics. this "bill" this issue is bigger than the sum of it's parts. it is about a cultural shift in Illinois politics. I have said it before and I will say it again, my job is about the possible, not the perfect. we have proven we won't stand for a Kwame bill. Brandon is dealing with the biggest player in Illinolis' politics. Tuff spot to be in. I know Brandon and I in all the years and meetings we have sat through and re-writes of the bill, he gets our issues. And I think he knows how to skin a cat. again I will refer people back to the requalification requirements under our bill. thee is more than one way to skin a cat and give them something, that does not hurt our side.

Reps do meet together without lobbyists from time to time.

Rep Phelps has been on this issue since at least 2005. He knows it well enough to not need his hand held every step of the way.

Nothing to really be alarmed at.

Man, this is tough! To want, need, deserve something so badly and only be allowed to play by proxy.

Understand the gist of what you are saying, though of course, the details are necessarily fuzzy. Appreciate the leadership of all involved. You guys are warriors. Could not do what you do. I'd be in jail for assault in short order!

Am really, really trying to exercise patience.

Once a decent bill passes, changes to the existing law should only require a simple majority... And a new governor. Laws are only permanent until someone votes to change it. This could go both ways though.

except any change that makes it stricter requires 71 votes again because of the preemption.

Nope. the constitution requires the that the section of law being amended, be reprinted with changes. If we only amend say the training section it has nothing to do with the preemption. simple majority. the Vehicle code has preemption in it but very few bills require 71 to pass as they amend the vehicle code. take a foot and tomorrow we'll take another.

Thanks for clarifying that todd.. was going off the constitution stuff i was reading this morning. so does that means the preemption cant be removed at all then??? and i can already see the wheels spinning to loosen some of the restrictions :)

Thanks Todd.

Now that we know how you have been shut out it makes it easier to understand where Phelps is coming from. I don't like it, but I feel a little better about the whole thing.

Don't be afraid to level with us. We can take it.

I'm sure you are joking, but even joking about going to "jail for assault" over a disagreement of issues does not make us look like patient, reasonable people that 99.9% of us are. Think about what you say because more than just "friends" are reading too.

That makes us a "violent extremist group" not just an "extremist group."

Maybe the best publicity for Brandon's bill would be "The NRA dislikes it, but will NOT oppose it" giving him plenty of political distance from the NRA with the fence sitting legislators that would not want their name associated with passing a bill associated in some way with those letters - because of the way the media has been trying to twist those letters into a negative thing.

And he can boldly claim - this is NOT the NRA's bill, it is MY bill....

The results folks, the results, especially in today's climate.

I hate the way the media panders to the anti's (and thus scares the politicians), but right now I LOVE the way they have turned on their "savior" when he in his arrogance thought he could step over the/their line with impunity.

No one really knows.

People are speculating and working themselves up into a tizzy.

Exactly what I thought before I got to your comment.

I've only read one person on the board that may have penned messages of questionable behavior and he's long gone and banished as he should have been. The folks here are law abiding citizens waiting patiently for their opportunity to enjoy their 2nd amendment rights. Every other group with a "cause" angrily demonstrate on the streets, shut down expressways with human chains demanding to be heard, buy tens of millions of dollars’ worth of one sided commentary with skewed facts, march on City Hall shouting at the top of their lungs and with bullhorns how their "Rights" are being violated and demand action on their behalf.

When all the dust settles and the fears of the Wild West have not surfaced, when the MSM starts to print articles about home invasions being thwarted, rape and murder statistics on the decline, and people confidently walking the streets of Illinois and taking back their neighborhoods then we will rejoice with smiles on our faces.

Our founding fathers didn't pen the 2nd Amendment in a day. It took many days and many different drafts so that its message was clear. They had to convince the "Politicians" of their day as to its merit the same as we are doing today. You really have to admire the patience of the gentlemen who sat down together and seen firsthand the power of the people protecting themselves from tyranny, for themselves and for future generations of Americans. Patience young padawan.

Wise words of Wise men founded this country and I think they did one heck of a good job. Very good comment by the way.

I apologize and retract my remarks, made, of course, in jest re "assault charges". It was thoughtless. Thought I was among friends, forgot about hostile readers.

Mods feel free to delete my message. (Post 10 this thread)

Can I confess there would be raised voices and uncomplimentary commentary without ruffling feathers?

My point, clumsily made, is I would not have Tod's patience in dealing with folks at the Capitol. Think most of us would agree on that.

If you were a fence sitter, would you want to vote on something drafted by the "big, bad evil" NRA?

I spent some time on the phone w my rep yesterday and he also said that things look good for phelps bill passing soon. He also said games are being played but WE expect to win this one. No telling what senate might do though.

There is a lot of work being done behind closed doors.

Breaking in with my first post...

I know we want something to get done with a bill. I know the ideal is something that we can't reach. But how far away from the ideal are we willing to accept? Where do we draw the line?

Compromise with evil is not possible. Evil will not stop, relent, or give in. I guess it is just the lawyer in me...but back in December, I read a Court of Appeals opinion in which I thought we won. We have the leverage...we have the momentum. Every time we give a little more, we lose the momentum. I can't help but remember the great Patton scene...

"Now there's another thing I want you to remember. I don't want to get any messages saying that "we are holding our position." We're not holding anything. Let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the a**. We're going to kick the heck out of him all the time and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose!"
