mauserme Posted May 16, 2013 at 03:03 AM Author Posted May 16, 2013 at 03:03 AM Though little action was seen on the floor of either chamber yesterday, Senator Bivins made public his distaste for the bill Senator Raoul now hopes to force upon this state with support only from his own party. As a result, SB848 is newly described to reflect the loss of 1/2 of it's former supporters. In typical Chicago fashion, those who wish to deprive the citizens of that city their rights continue to hide the actual bill number and wording. Perhaps some day Illinois will achieve open and honest government. For now we would be content to simply read the bill. The House is scheduled for 2:00 PM today. The Senate is scheduled for 12:00 Noon..

+P+ Posted May 16, 2013 at 03:36 AM Posted May 16, 2013 at 03:36 AM I can help until 4:00 or 4:30ish. Just use the time machine.... I want to say thank you to you guys. Even though I don't post on here much, I do the diligence, call and email, and talk to as many people as I can and direct them to this site. Even my brother in law, a Dupage County Sheriff who can carry legally in this state, is still calling his reps, sending emails, talking to politicians, and supporting a good shall issue carry bill to all he talks to. We are very close to finding out what is going to happen, and I just wanted to send a sincere "thank you" to the people on the front lines who make a difference, and those that keep us updated about our progress as well. We shall prevail. Lets keep strong and make this happen. CARRY ON.
cls74 Posted May 16, 2013 at 11:22 AM Posted May 16, 2013 at 11:22 AM So will the executive committee hearing scheduled for 11am, if it is indeed the one the 3 bills Todd mentioned would be sent to today, be made public or can they control that as well? Plinkermostly Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:17 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:17 PM It is so indicative of the level of deceit, contempt, and chicanery: Amends the Fire Extinguisher Service Act
colt-45 Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:19 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:19 PM 10-D and 5-R how is that fair.
Livewire18 Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:23 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:23 PM 10-D and 5-R how is that fair. Well, considering what Mad-again said yesterday was fair, I am sure he thinks that is also.
dorvinion Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:23 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:23 PM 10-D and 5-R how is that fair. They have 2/3 of the seats in the Senate
Talonap Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:27 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:27 PM 10-D and 5-R how is that fair.WOW! They let us have 5? That's more than fair for Illinois ... Since they don't want to give us a Bill number, let's just oppose everything they put up.
ChicagoSigFan Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:31 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:31 PM Though little action was seen on the floor of either chamber yesterday, Senator Bivins made public his distaste for the bill Senator Raoul now hopes to force upon this state with support only from his own party. Is there a link to his statement? Although he is truly and permanently dead to me, I would like to see what he said.
mauserme Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:34 PM Author Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:34 PM Galesburg.Com Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, who had been appointed to work alongside Raoul on the bill, said Tuesday he no longer supports the legislation with this added provision.
ChicagoSigFan Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:40 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:40 PM Capitol Fax Citing high-crime rates and a “different atmosphere” in places like Chicago, Raoul said it only make sense to limit guns in densely populated areas. Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, who had been appointed to work alongside Raoul on the bill, said Tuesday he no longer supports the legislation with this added provision. “The problem that you have is there are so many competing interests going on in a bill like this that when you try to satisfy a lot to get the votes, you end up satisfying no one,” Bivins said. “Sen. Raoul’s put a lot of work into this … but at this point in time, it’s not something we’re going to agree on.” The concept of the bill is similar to Gov. Pat Quinn’s long-standing push to give home-rule units the power to create their own concealed-carry restrictions, Bivins said. “The problem with that is becomes patchwork and you don’t know where it’s legal and where it’s not,” Bivins said. Thanks Mauser. That's some weak tea, but at least he made it public. Still dead to me, though. If anyone wants to run against him in a primary, feel free to hit me up for a donation.
mauserme Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:42 PM Author Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:42 PM As you were quoting my post I changed the link to a more direct source so, no, you're not going crazy.
Livewire18 Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:43 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 12:43 PM Sen. Kwame Raoul, a Chicago Democrat, told The Associated Press that cities would be able to designate unique locales, such as a park or cherished landmark, as gun-free zones above and beyond what restrictions would be put into a law allowing public possession of firearms, Yeah, to Kwame wants "unique locales" to be off limits. Let see here, how many landmarks are their in Chicago? Let me also guess that you wont be allowed within 1000Ft of those "landmarks" with a firearm. So, basically it is the same garbage just recycled and encrypted, to say you won't be allowed to carry anywhere in the city. How this bonehead ever got where he is now is just amazing to me. He is worse than a gangbanger's lawyer! Raoul said his legislation would give the more than 200 home-rule units in Illinois, including Springfield, a six-month window in which to set up restricted areas that may not have been thought of when writing the statewide law. So, now it is no longer 30 or 90 days, now it is 180 days. Why not just make it forever, and while you are at it, make sure you finish spitting in the face of the 7th! This is really getting ridiculous.
albike Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:01 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:01 PM Quote from GALESBURG.com ----“As smart as we are as a legislature, we might not have thought of everything,” Raoul said.

TyGuy Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:18 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:18 PM The more onerous they make it the better as it will drive away fence sitters. That said, when they turn around with a more "reasonable" bill DO NOT BE FOOLED!
TyGuy Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:20 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:20 PM Do we know waht committe the bad bills are in? I was going to try and find out the bill number by viewing the text online of all of th ebills assigned to that committe.
cm.stites Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:29 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:29 PM i thought the executive met last night and was taken off the schedule for today?
Livewire18 Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:37 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:37 PM I have searched every bill text for the last 3 days, and cannot find anything. I am not even sure if the amendment has been officially introduced yet.
cls74 Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:59 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 01:59 PM i thought the executive met last night and was taken off the schedule for today? That could be, I don't know any way of finding out. Todd in his original 5/15 update thread said it would probably be the executive committee but did not state it with certainty. They're keeping everything so hush hush, if it were the house they would skip the committee altogether and bring it straight to the floor at third reading and move back to second for a quick in the opinion of the chair adoption of an amendment and straight back to third for a vote. Who knows, maybe Cullerton will go that route as well. Wish here was something the publi could do to force this type of legislation to stop, but they also make the laws so....
cm.stites Posted May 16, 2013 at 02:09 PM Posted May 16, 2013 at 02:09 PM says executive is still scheduled for 11 so who knows.
mauserme Posted May 16, 2013 at 02:13 PM Author Posted May 16, 2013 at 02:13 PM Executive is still scheduled for 11 AM toady and no, we (I at least) don't know the bill number yet.
