I signed up for a counter-petition to his BS petition, and somehow he got my e-mail and now I'm getting these updates from him.

Oh well, it's not like I'm spying on him...

.

Since its formation just a few months ago, our coalition has done the following:

1) Created a website, www.StopConcealedCarry.org

2) Created a Facebook page which is updated daily. Like us at https://www.facebook.com/StopConcealedCarry

3) Held a press conference announcing the coalition (video clips are on our website)

4) Gathered more than 7,000 signatures on a petition against concealed carry that was submitted to Illinois legislators.

5) Generated a large number of emails and phone calls to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan urging her to appeal Judge Posner's decision that threw out Illinois' gun law. (She has appealed)

6) Appeared on radio, television, and in print stories about concealed carry.

7) Met with other anti-violence organizations and helped to publicize their efforts.

8) Contacted Lt. Governor Sheila Simon's office regarding her Firearms Working Group.

9) Provided speakers to church, synagogue, and other community groups.

10) Provided columns about concealed carry to newspapers.

11) Consulted with and provided information to people who want to become involved in this issue.

12) Became recognized by NRA and Illinois State Rifle Association members as a force to be reckoned with.

13) Sent representative to Congressman Brad Schneider's gun violence round table.

Things have been moving very rapidly. Thanks to everyone for your concern and involvement. You will receive another email soon to let you know about what we plan on doing next.

He said something I found interesting in Glenview the other week. I was one of the many stuck outside in the cold but it is in the video in this forum in the thread about that event. He made a statement to the effect that he was urging the gun grabbers to continue to call their legislators to oppose the passage of ANY carry bill. This struck me as odd because of the whole constitutional carry result. He postulated that if CA7 denies en bank and if Springfield passes any form of carry legislation, that Illinois would not be able to appeal to SCOTUS because the issue before the court would be moot.

What say you? Any legal eagles here? Would this scenario be true?

Part of me wants this to go to SCOTUS to put this part of the issue to bed once and for all, but it does not come without some risk. So I guess I'm undecided if appeal to SCOTUS is politically expedient at this time. We do have the momentum and we are righteous in our endeavor but we are only one heartbeat away from losing in the time this would take to play out for a final ruling from SCOTUS.

I hope this isn't a thread hijack. My apologies to the o.p. If it is.

That would be true. Courts will not take cases that have been resolved in other ways, or should be resolved in other ways. If IL passes a concealed carry law of any type, the cases will end and SCOTUS will not hear a case if the issue was resolved by an Appellate court and the IL legislature.

What Goodman is hoping for is another Obama appointment to the Supreme Court soon or that Justice Kennedy will switch sides and that IL does not pass any CCW law and they get an appeal to the SCOTUS. If IL passes a CCW law, SCOTUS will never accept the case because the issue was resolved and is now moot.

Goodman is myopic. Kachalsky (NY may issue case) has already been petitioned to SCOTUS.

We play better chess.

I just posted on the FB page. We'll see how long it lasts. Go "like" it!!!

"It's a shame that you all continue to spew rhetoric based on nothing but fear-mongering and playing on people's emotions, while lives continue to be lost to criminals who KNOW that the good people of Illinois are not allowed to defend their lives.

Just please remember that every GOOD person in Illinois who is killed because he, she, or a family was a helpless victim, deprived of self-defense - their deaths, murders, rapes, muggings, and more are on YOUR head, and on the head of anyone who would prefer to give criminals free reign to do whatever they like to the people of our state, without consequence.

Please, just remember that."

Posted this on their post for Our Fellow Patriot Chris Kyle. Wonder how long it will be up there

"His job was to kill people for the United States Government. All he did was do his job! Is there something wrong with a person being good at their job? And being proud of being good at their job? Maybe if the government took care of our veterans this would've never happened. No person serving in combat should have to worry about any mental or physical health issues when they return home. Why aren't you talking about fixing the mental health issues in our country instead of a honorable man who did this country a fine service for over 25% of his lifetime? This man risked his own life to protect our rights. So you have the right to get on here and slander people and use false claims to promote your agenda to abolish our right to protect ourselves, wherever we may be. This man and many like him have protected your freedom of speech and organization. And because of your personal agenda against guns, those freedoms give you the right to try and take another individual's rights. I commend you all for your ability to commit to a cause, unfortunately your "cause" is infringing upon every American's rights that are guaranteed by The United States Constitution. I would love to see every member of Stop Conceal Carry put their effort into the "less important" things in our country like maybe balancing our budget. I believe Illinois has the second highest debt-per-capita in the country. You know, little things like that"

Lee sent me an e-mail:

C0untZer0,

The Judiciary Committee of the Illinois House of Representatives will hold two hearings on concealed carry and other aspects of gun violence.

Date: Tuesday, February 19

Location: Illinois State Capitol Building, Springfield

Time: Noon

Date: Friday, February 22

Location: Michael A. Bilandic Building, 160 N. LaSalle St., Chicago

Time: 10:00 a.m.

Check the Upcoming Events tab on our web page www.StopConcealedCarry.org in case of schedule changes.

The testimony at these hearings will become part of the official record and will influence the legislature as it considers new gun-related laws.

There are two simple but important things you can do to help keep guns out of our public spaces:

1) Attend one or both of the hearings to show your opposition to concealed carry. The pro-gun folks will be at the hearings in large numbers. We need to be there, too. The hearings are open to the public.

2) Send an email to the chair of the Judiciary Committee, Rep. Elaine Nekritz, today at enekritz@repnekritz.org

Tell her that you do not want Illinois to pass any concealed carry legislation until all appeals have been taken of the federal court decision that threw out Illinois' gun law. If the Illinois Attorney General's request for a rehearing of the decision is granted, there is no need to pass a new law, because the old law will remain in effect. If the request is not granted, the court decision should be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ask Rep. Nekritz to make your email a part of the official record of her committee, and tell her which town you live in.

We have worked hard and have made progress, but we can't let up now. Things can move very quickly in the legislature. Let your voice be heard!

Contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Lee Goodman, for the Coalition

FML. I have too much going on at work to take time off for this dog and pony show, but the opportunity to give the guy who called me, the Jewish grandson of a holocaust survivor, a Nazi a piece of my mind may be too much to resist.

Yea, but me turning into a rage monster probably wouldn't help our cause.

Are there any actual members of this group like Illinois Carry has? Or is this something that Mr. Goodman is running out of his garage / basement? I know the other side has chronic problems getting out supporters, IE almost all of there protests present very creative photography demands for newspaper photographers. How much of a presence could Goodman reliably rustle up. (Could he have bus loads of elementary school students bused to Springfield for a impromptu "field trip", or some other crazy stunt like that?)

Well, he does have Facebook followers, and they were able to scrable together 7,000 signatures on an online petition - and they got got great press coverage on the signatures...

How many signers were actually from Illinois?

Probably all of them, but anyone can get names from the white pages.

I liked this one the most.

Please don't let this pass. As a criminal, Illinois is the only state I feel safe in. All the other states allow law abiding citizens the right to self defense. All the states that touch Illinois (and all the other states) allow some form of concealed carry...and amazingly they don't have problems with shootings in the streets and becoming the wild wild west. I know that Illinois is different than Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, and other states. Illinois people aren't smart enough to have reasonable laws. Illinois residents don't deserve the same rights as other citizens in the US. As a career criminal, I like the idea that I don't have to guess if someone in Illinois has a firearm. I know it's the only state I can be assured that the elderly, handicapped, and women will have to rely on the police...who are always at least 15 to 45 minutes away. I'll be long gone after robbing, raping, or murdering someone in Illinois. Please keep Illinois as the "Land of Victims"o.

Lee sounds a little bit sad, he's offering encouraging words in his latest mailing:

C0untZer0,

We've been handed a setback, but a setback isn't a loss unless we give up.

The federal court turned down Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's request for a rehearing of the decision that threw out Illinois' ban on concealed weapons. Our best hope now is for Madigan to appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Please go to http://signon.org/si...cr&r_by=6249413 and sign the petition urging Lisa Madigan to appeal to the Supreme Court. Even if you contacted her before and urged her to request a rehearing, we need you to sign the petition so that she knows we haven't lost interest in making our public places safe from concealed weapons.

We have nothing to lose by appealing, because if the decision is not appealed, we have lost everything and guns will be everywhere. The NRA is putting a lot of pressure on the legislature to pass a bill before Madigan has a chance to appeal, and they are trying to convince her not to appeal. We have to make our voices heard!

Thank you,

Should we start our own petition on Signon.org? Probably wouldn't get many signatures, but would be fun to post a pro 2nd Amendment petition on their website.
