Hello! I have a quick question....What happens if I do not update my address change.....and will the state ever find out if I moved? Thank You for your time.

I can't imagine a good reason not to update and keep your address current.

That person would be in violation of the FOID Act, hypothetically speaking of course because no one could possibly be that lazy. If that person's FOID on file doesn't match the address on their DL, that person will be arrested. Again, laziness.

As skinnyb82 said, the person would be in violation and given the hostility towards gun owners who knows how far the authorities can take it.

(430 ILCS 65/13.2) (from Ch. 38, par. 83-13.2)

Sec. 13.2. The Department of State Police shall, 60 days prior to the expiration of a Firearm Owner's Identification Card, forward by first class mail to each person whose card is to expire a notification of the expiration of the card and an application which may be used to apply for renewal of the card. It is the obligation of the holder of a Firearm Owner's Identification Card to notify the Department of State Police of any address change since the issuance of the Firearm Owner's Identification Card. Whenever any person moves from the residence address named on his or her card, the person shall within 21 calendar days thereafter notify in a form and manner prescribed by the Department of his or her old and new residence addresses and the card number held by him or her.

A friend was denied a purchase of a long rifle when his FOID address didn't match his DL address. He was recently back from Navy duty, picked up his new DL but forgot about the FOID. He had been in Nevada for 3 years.

Well the thing is I have alledgedly moved and my foid still matches my D.L....So I guess my question is, If have contacts at my old address that could confirm my living there do I ever really need to send in the $10.00 renewal and risk my current foid being iunvalid while the new one gets lost in Gov. Quinns blackhole of a mailbox?

What the heck... I updated my address thru internet form that they had available at the time about 1-2 years ago. All I got after the submission is the notification that it was updated and that I won't receive a new FOID but that ISP will keep my new address. The result - I still have a FOID with my old address. Purchased guns and ammo since, nobody gave me any trouble. Should I resubmit with the new application just in case ? I assume with this one I'll receive the new FOID.

And just so nobody thinks I'm crazy - here's the internet form they used to have:

Since you already notified ISP of your address change and received confirmation, no further action on your part is required.

If you want a new FOID card that shows your current address, then fill out the new application to update your card and mail it in with $5.00. You will receive a new card that shows your current address (the new card will have the same expiration date as your originally issued card).

Looks like the answer is in ChiShooter's link, right in that bright yellow box:

" Effective January 1st, 2013, FOID card holders must reapply for a new FOID card within 21 days of an address change and within 30 days of a name change using the Name/Address Change Request form."

That means that if you moved / changed your name either after 1/1/13 or otherwise didn't notify the ISP that you moved before 1/1/13 you have to pay the $5 and get an updated card.

I would presume that if you moved before 1/1/13 and submitted that change to the ISP when they only wanted the new address and not the $5 for the new card, you are fine with your card that has your old address on it until you renew it.

At least that is what I am going with. I moved in 2010, and updated my address online, but didn't get a new card, so my address on my FOID is wrong, but my Drivers license is correct.

I've never had an issue with that at the gun stores I frequent.

You would be fine as long as you never had to use the FOID again like to buy ammo or a firearm or possess either.

Even If your moving out of state....

I never told em when I moved out of state and was denied on the NICS check after moving to SD, I already had a new house, SD drivers license and concealed carry card...

Had to appeal it with the FBI (and wait 4 months for it to be overturned) and I also ended up on hold on the FOID line for 1 1/2 hours straightening it out...

My last purchase was delayed for two days, before the proceed, no waiting period here...

Id recommend doing the official address change with ISP if your planning on fleeing Ill-Annoy...

I have a clean record and bought a lot of guns in Ill, never a problem until I moved, I figure it was just a final screwing from the ********...
