proud2b4family Posted November 28, 2012 at 05:52 AM Posted November 28, 2012 at 05:52 AM My wife has never used a shotgun and would like to get a class or two on how to do so. She's a very peace-loving, non-violent conservative who saw the writing on the wall with this past election and wants to know how to protect our home if I'm not here. I've got a basic knowledge (Boy Scout summer camp shotgun/rifle range + growing up in a town bristling with guns). I just don't feel terribly qualified to teach her since I don't shoot that often (we've never had a gun in the house until now). Where in McHenry or Lake counties can I get that kind of training for her? I've looked online and found several gun clubs, but they don't offer training. Just the ranges to shoot skeet. There are several Certified Firearms Instructors in the area, but she's not looking for force-on-force tactical training. And, the teaching style of the ones I've talked to is a bit too boot-campish for breaking her in gently to the world of guns. She just wants to know how to care for, load, handle, and shoot (for now...I intend to persuade her gently to take up tactical training once she's comfortable shooting). Any suggestions? I want to make this as positive an experience for her as possible so she'll eventually love shooting. Thanks.
