Just an FYI the Wheeling IL Super Walmart (Lake Cook and McHenry Rd.) is now open. They have your standard WalMart Ammo selection and have lots of pistol ammo in stock in 380, 9MM , 40, 45 and 357. Rifle ammo is very hit or miss however, almost all of the 223 was sold out.

9mm and 40 ammo prices were OK @ $13.00 for 50 of 9MM and $17.00 for 50 of 40 S&W.

45 ammo price is good @ $19.00 per 50 of federal FMJ's and $30.00 for 100.

Too bad for me I am way overstocked on 45 right now :(.

I know a lot of people have an opinion against Walmart but man their ammo section at my local store has gotten a lot better over the last few years. They carry tons of handgun ammo both FMJ and HP and have both .223 and 7.62 they also have AR parts like evil fore grips and shoulder things that go up. A big change from nothing but birdshot a few years back

Yep I did not see any gun parts at this Walmart but I do see them all the time up in Wisconsin. They had Hydrashock for 9MM, 40 S&W , 45 ACP and 380. They had 380 Z-Max ammo. It looks like they did at one point have several types of 223 in stock, including Tul AND American eagle for $6.97. The rifle ammo was not that impressive compared to what you find @ Cabelas. They had some mixed rifle HP's too. A lot of oddball calibers that I guess are popular with hunters. LOTS of 17 HMR , 22LR and 22 MAG. $25.00 for 500 on the 22LR. Really makes me want to go out and buy a cheap semi auto in 22LR.

Keep in mind this is the first week of the super Walmart officially being open so they may add more gun stuff if they see a demand. At this point I would recommend you go late or early, It took 20 mins for them to find the guy with the key to the ammunition cabinet but I had time to kill today.

Its a shame they do not still sell guns though, as a kid I remember just about every Walmart I visited with my dad had an extensive selection of guns and this was only 20 years ago. Even if it was just long-guns I would love to see a return of bolt action rifles and shotguns. You would think Walmart being the big evil for profit empire they would have a gun section in every single store; especially with the demand for firearms so high right now.

I don't actually think anyone can have too much ammo.

I mean, consider the circumstances you might be in when you had to say to yourself, "huh! Guess I was wrong I did need more ammo!".

Well I have one 1911 in 45 ACP. I have about 500 rounds of 45 ACP right now.

Considering I have 3 handguns in 9MM and only about 500 rounds of 9MM I consider myself low on 9mm and a little heavy on 45. I don't know how it happened, I had two 50 cal boxes filled with 9MM then all of a sudden after a weekend with the brother in law one is empty and one is mostly full.

I'd of picked up some 100 packs but I have to drop $400.00 on Monday for a S&W Shield.

Right now as of about an hour ago they had what you see there in 45, a little less in 40 S&W and 38 and about 50 boxes or so of 9mm federal FMJ's. They had 3 boxes left of 357 Magnum federal FMJ's, 3 boxes of various 223 FMJ's and a single box of HP's.

They also had a brand of federal hollow points i'd never seen before, box of 50 for about $20.00 of federal "classic" "Hi Shocks".

As they are seeing it it profitable more and more walmarts are bringing guns back to stores. The ones that carry them even carry ARs now.

Wal Marts in New Mexico, plus small town general stores there, have huge gun selections, great prices, plus will order just about anything you can think of aside from Bofors cannons. Pretty much cash and carry, pay your money and walk out with whatever you want. Wish I had taken advantage of that when I was living there years ago.

In Illinois, Walmart does have good ammo prices. But I prefer going to Blain's Farm and Fleet, they have better prices. On occasion, Farm and Fleet also has sales on some of it's ammo. Usually Remmington and Winchester.

I picked up Blazzer Brass at Farm & Fleet for 9.99 - great price.

Was there buyin a coon trap :D

I thought that brand has aluminum cases?

Blazer has both aluminum and brass cased ammo. I buy whichever one is on sale. It's fine for range use.

walmart has good prices on ammo its just the wait time to get someone to assist that sucks. I constantly see emails from other places like cheaper than dirt and I cannot see the lure of online ammo purchases. I've yet to see on online ammo (.45 cal) cheaper than walmarts price.

Yeah it took 20 mins for the guy to find the person with the key to the ammo lock up. PITA but the wife got the rest of our shopping done.

Still worth the wait, it's nice for me to be able to drive 5 mins from my house and buy cheap ammo insted of having to head to Cabelas. Crossing my fingers they see the light and add guns or gun accessories too. Still $19.00 for 50 or $30.00 for 100 of a quality name brand like federal in 45 ACP is just sweet. I've been shooting 45 for about a year now and I've only ever seen cheaper(Herters, Wolf etc) brands below $20.00 per box.

The funny part in all of this is that a year ago 9mm federal was $10.00 a box of 50, you could find S&B on sale for $9.00 / 50. Now 9MM is $13-14 a box but 45 ACP is still about the same...what the heck?

I will say this GAT in Dundee has good prices on certain ammo too; usually it is in the cardboard boxes they have set up infront of their range counter. I think i've gotten $20 per 50 in federal 45 ACP there before. They had a heck of a deal on Corbon JHP ammunition in 223 the other day too.

yeah, GAT does have good prices too but way too far for me. Walmart is like 5mins from me too. I wonder if the 9mm prices are higher due to demand. More people buying 9's and they probably jacked up the cost to cash in.

Ammo lock up? None of that at my Wal-mart. Usually the sporting goods guy/gal is only an aisle or two away. Most of them don't even ask for my FOID anymore. .45 ammo is cheaper (hardball anyway) there than online after shipping. But all of my 5.56 comes from online. Last batch was $6.42 per 20 round box delivered to my door. That's $6 before tax at a store. i've not found it at that price at any store locally.

Lucky Guy! even up in Wisconsin for as long as I can remember the ammo was always in some kind of a locked case behind a counter. The Lake Geneva WI Walmart had guns for years before they remodeled.

The Wheeling Walmart has what seems to be the standard "Behind The Glass" case of ammo. It is identical in size to the one at the Walmart in Lake Geneva and Delavin WI.

Sometimes when Cabelas has an ammo sale it gets that low on 556 also. I think Americal Eagle 556 when they have it (they only had one opened box) at Walmart is just under $7/20. Its about the same at Cabelas regular. I got some Herters Brass Case 223 FMJ for $6.00 per box of 20 about a month ago. Havn't shot it yet to give much of a report though.

I am going to drop by Walmart again this Friday or Saturday and see if they have upped their invintory.

I get 100 rd packs of federal 9mm for $19 at my local walmart. I can't hardly reload for that price.

This is the Walmart I was talking about.

Im going to Cry.....It would be nice to not have to drive to the ends of the earth to see a wide selection of firearms and ammunition.

I will be happy when Maxson opens their new store.

Their gun rack ( mostly filled with AR-s ) was about 60 ft long and double sided :0)

9mm and 40 ammo prices were OK @ $13.00 for 50 of 9MM

I sell my 9mm for alot less than that in case or half case quantities. 500 rounds for $97.55 That's more than $30 cheaper than walmart.

[/quote]Wow! That's basically what I pay for a box of Tula. Makes me wonder why I even bother trying to sell ammo.

Tula is good?

Tula is ok. I've shot their 45 ACP through my Gen 1 Glock 21. A little dirtier than Remington but otherwise had no problems and was fine for the range or plinking. Even though the newer Russian stuff is supposedly non-corrosive I still do a good cleaning after I get home from the range, but then I've always done that anyway.
