jfd287 Posted August 8, 2012 at 12:33 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 12:33 PM I'm looking for input and suggestions for an IWB holster for a full size .45. I know it's not the best pistol for an IWB holster but I can't afford another gun. I'd like to go cheap at 30-40$ but I won't have the comfort of a 70$ piece. So if I have to spend the $$ I guess I will. Thanks.
miztic Posted August 8, 2012 at 01:05 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 01:05 PM What kind of gun? if it's a 1911, I just received this from kelley gun leather, the guy comes highly recommended and can do all kinds of custom stuff if you want, but he only does 1911 holsters at the moment.http://openprojects.rarcoa.com/~miztic/IMG_20120806_194239.jpg

abolt243 Posted August 8, 2012 at 01:11 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 01:11 PM Cheap side: Don Hume clip on IWB place your order by phone and order the "body shield" that keeps the pistol from digging into your "spare tire". Less than $40 shipped to you. Comfort side: American Holster Invisituck. The all leather version of the "super tuck" hybrid holsters that you hear about. Less than $100 delivered to your door. I've got both of these and use them quite a bit. The Hume is quick on, quick off, more comfortable than you would think. Not tuckable, so you're either open carry (kinda) or wearing a cover garment. Retains the pistol well. The Invisituck is very comfortable for extended wear, harder to put on. Spreads the weight out over a larger area so that you don't get any "hot" spots of discomfort. I usually carry a 3" Colt Defender, but have used both of these for a full size Gold Cup. I'd recommend either or both. You'll probably wait 4-6 weeks on either of these unless you catch one that someone ordered and cancelled before shipment. But, they're worth the wait. Tim
bornhunter04 Posted August 8, 2012 at 01:20 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 01:20 PM Check midway. They run the comp-tac minotaurs on sale in your price range. Buddy just got one for a glock 27 for $37. Well made it seems, designed like a crossbreed.
Jeffrey Posted August 8, 2012 at 01:22 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 01:22 PM One piece of advise that most will agree on, don't skimp on your holster. You will get what you pay for. I use a crossbreed daily. Very comfy, very reliable, very safe. I bought it a few years ago and I think I paid ~70 bucks for it.
GarandFan Posted August 8, 2012 at 02:09 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 02:09 PM A pretty good rule to follow is this: don't scrimp on a holster.
TyGuy Posted August 8, 2012 at 02:14 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 02:14 PM Crossbreed super tuck deluxe
jfd287 Posted August 8, 2012 at 02:34 PM Author Posted August 8, 2012 at 02:34 PM It's for a M&P 45. I was looking at the crossbreeds last night. I'll look into the others also. With the crossbreed, how about the speed cut? I believe that's what they call it, yes or no to the speed cut?

With the crossbreed, how about the speed cut? I believe that's what they call it, yes or no to the speed cut? You mean the combat cut. Yes, most definitely yes! I don't have it on my crossbreed for my glocks but i do have it on the crossbreed for my LCR. I really wish i had it on the glock holster. You can get a much better master grip on the gun when you go to draw. My holster is probably going to get modified here before too long to have a combat cut. As long as your not running some rough textured grip tape you'll be fine, it won't rub much if at all.
Roger Z Posted August 8, 2012 at 02:51 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 02:51 PM You might have a look at the holsters Tommy Theis makes. They are quite similar to the Crossbreed but a bit less expensive. I had Tommy make one for me and I'm happy with it. Delivery time was less than three weeks. http://theisholsters.com

I have three Theis holsters and they are just as good as a Crossbreed SuperTuck, IMHO.
Tompo Posted August 8, 2012 at 03:30 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 03:30 PM Another place to look is http://www.hiddenhybridholsters.com/ I think for a full size 1911, you're looking at maybe $59. But, the holster can be worn IWB and OWB. I have one for my M&P Shield, works very well.
Jeff Johnson Posted August 8, 2012 at 03:34 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 03:34 PM I'm very happy with the Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe. I have only tried one other, a Bladetek IWB, not as comfortable.
moon Posted August 8, 2012 at 04:58 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 04:58 PM I've used Winthrop Holsters and they are really good and very affordable: http://www.winthropholsters.com/Less expensive and also very confortable and very affordable from ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/mdjstore I have holsters from both and very happy with both. I plan to order another from Winthrop soon.

junglebob Posted August 8, 2012 at 05:57 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 05:57 PM You didn't mention the make of your 1911, but www.kholster.com has holsters for some 1911s. He makes a mold from the guns he offers holsters for to insure a good fit. For those models that he doesn't have a mold for he will give you a discount of 20% for those around St. Louis, his 1911 holsters are $45, so this is in the range of the price you want to pay. I got a holster for a C9 Hi-point from him.
Jeffrey Posted August 8, 2012 at 06:05 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 06:05 PM As obvious by all the suggestions, holsters are only opinions. What one person likes, another won't. Don't be surprised to wind up with a couple of them for the same gun. I have two holsters for each of my two ccw guns. Depending on the weather or where we are going depends what I'm bringing.

I replied it is a M&P 45 Now that the gun has been around a few years, I see most manufactures do make holsters for it. Thanks for all the good info do far.
moon Posted August 8, 2012 at 06:15 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 06:15 PM You should look for like minded individuals in your community and more importantly in your district. Ask as many people to right to him. Maybe create a flyer of sorts and post them around town asking pro gun people to write/call him. just a thought.
Stevepk Posted August 8, 2012 at 11:08 PM Posted August 8, 2012 at 11:08 PM RemoraHolsters.com Top shelf IMHO
05FLHT Posted August 9, 2012 at 12:17 AM Posted August 9, 2012 at 12:17 AM RemoraHolsters.com Top shelf IMHO I use a Remora for a CM9 and it works extremely well. I've also been meaning to pick up a PJ holster for it too.
bornhunter04 Posted August 10, 2012 at 02:24 PM Posted August 10, 2012 at 02:24 PM +1 for the remora. I've carried a PF9 in one a couple of times now. Still working on exact placement. But so far, its comfortable, especially when standing/walking and not that bad when sitting. Takes some getting used to, but the holster really holds in place well and the price is def. right. Also, the mag holder, fits perfectly in the back pocket of my wranglers w/ a single-stack mag.
Tompo Posted August 10, 2012 at 05:13 PM Posted August 10, 2012 at 05:13 PM Remoras are excellent. You cal also try sticky holsters. http://stickyholsters.com/
vstar Posted August 10, 2012 at 05:31 PM Posted August 10, 2012 at 05:31 PM Another vote for Theis....even if I can only wear it around the house.
Jason4567 Posted August 10, 2012 at 05:42 PM Posted August 10, 2012 at 05:42 PM So the remora and stickyholster don't clip on to a belt and just sticks there for inside the waist band carrying? That seems weird. Does it work well?
jfd287 Posted August 10, 2012 at 06:17 PM Author Posted August 10, 2012 at 06:17 PM I'm narrowing down my choices. I like all the suggestions. Thanks
bornhunter04 Posted August 10, 2012 at 06:59 PM Posted August 10, 2012 at 06:59 PM So the remora and stickyholster don't clip on to a belt and just sticks there for inside the waist band carrying? That seems weird. Does it work well? Surprisingly well. they only cost $25 so i figured what the heck, i'll try one. If it don't work i can still use it for a pocket holster. But it does work. Basically, it feels really tacky, without actually being sticky (if that makes any kind of sense). But between the holster itself "grabbing" onto your pants/body and the compression from wearing pants that fit and employing the use of a belt (novel idea aint it?) the holster stays in place. It's pretty neat. I think it's perfect for small guns. Not sure how I'd feel about it for say a glock, I'd try it if given the chance. But realistically I'll just be using a crossbreed or OWB kydex to carry that.
