I live near DeKalb and I need to take the NRA Basic Pistol safety class sometime.  Are there any instructors nearby?

A second question:  Is the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting class different in that you actually have to fire a pistol?

The only reason I would consider that one is if it covered all of the regular Basic Pistol stuff, and it gave me the endorsement needed for
HB #### (I forget the numbers).

Basic Pistol has a shooting portion: some from seated position with sand bags for support, and the rest from standing two-handed grip.  The targets used are paper plates and smaller targets from 5-7 yards.  It is all about safety and mechanics,  with lots and lots of repetitions of basic moves.  The B-21 sillouhette target regimen required in HB-5745 is not in the Basic Pistol curriculum. That isn't to say the instructor couldn't do that after the class is completed, but it is not part of Basic Pistol, and will have nothing to do with getting your Basic Pistol certification.

If you are hoping to take a class now to qualify for an Illinois CC Permit, whenever one becomes available, I think you should wait until such a bill becomes law.

My understanding is that IL will require a custom class taught by certified IL instructors. I could be wrong... I would prefer that it be an NRA course.

Edited to add... If you desire to increase your pistol handling knowledge, take Basic Pistol now. Training is always a good thing!

We are about 50 miles south of you.  Our range time includes paper plates, regulation pistol targets and a B27 Silhoutte.  If class size permits and all are in agreement we can end range time firing from 7 and 15 yards which is the proposed distance for HB 148.  Please see our web site for detailed info.

I guess I'll be doing it through PTPC, which is cool.  I just hoped for someone closer.  Thanks

There is one on the schedule at the Aurora Sportsmen's Club for August 18th.  Looks like the class is provided by SaferUSA.  Here's a link to the ASC calendar.
