URGENT: Town Hall Meeting Tonight following murder in my neighborhood

My alderman sent this out two days ago, then I understood the meeting was cancelled; now I understand it's definitely back on tonight -- hence the late notice to you.

Mr. FF would like to come, but won't be able to. If any of you can join me, I'll be mighty grateful. The meeting starts at 7 pm and is in Chicago, just blocks from the Lawrence exit at I-90/94.

Many of you may recall that, even after we won the McDonald v Chicago ruling, our kids were mugged at gunpoint multiple times, in this same 'safe' neighborhood. If you are able, please join me at tonight's town hall in support of our RTC.

Thank you.

Dear Colleen,

Early Saturday morning, a 41-year-old man was shot and killed in the 4200-block of North Milwaukee. According to witnesses and police, the victim and the shooter got into an argument after leaving a local business. That argument escalated into a shoving match, and the shooter brandished a handgun and shot the victim before fleeing.

This shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no indication that it was related to gang activity. Police continue to search for the shooter.

I understand and share your concerns about this crime. I live just a few blocks from the scene. We cannot tolerate this type of activity in our community.

I strongly urge you to come out this Wednesday, July 25, at 7 pm, to the Chicago Police 16th District Town Hall meeting at Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence. This is your opportunity to ask 16th District leadership about what they are doing – and what you can do – to keep our community safe.

I also urge you to call 911 to report any suspicious activity. Too often, I hear from residents who are concerned about criminal activity but don’t call police to report it. Police cannot stop crimes if they do not know they are occurring. You need to call 911. In addition to helping catch criminals in the act, calls from an entire neighborhood about reoccurring activity elevates the prioritization of the issue within the police department.

Despite this shooting, I want to remind you that we still live in one of the safest communities in the city. That doesn’t mean we should ignore this, or any other, crime; we must remain vigilant to keep this community safe. However, this does appear to be a totally isolated incident unconnected with any gang activity.

I hope to see you at the meeting on Wednesday. Thank you for reading.

I am to far away to help but certainly hope others can make it to this meeting. Good luck Mrs.FF and thank you for taking the fight to them.
