Where do my fellow Illinoisans buy their ammo? I live in Chicago/Cook but it doesn't have to be right here.

I've been buying stuff on Gunbroker, but I'm sick of seeing listings that say they won't ship to Chicago and Cheaper Than Dirt won't either, in spite of Mr. McDonald winning his case. There's no reason not to and I've ordered plenty of ammo through the mail but so many of these guys just don't know.

I'd like to find a local place where I can buy inexpensively for target shooting at the range. Saw a vendor at Kane County Flea Market earlier this month and almost picked up a few bags from him but decided not to. Wish I had grabbed his card.

Anyway, where do you guys buy around here?

I live in LaSalle County. Thje Plano WalMart sells ammo as does the Montgomery, Oswego, Dekalb, Ottaw and Peru Wal Marts.

My wife drags me to all of them just on the odd chance that one of them may have something differfent.

My life turns into a living hell when we are on road trips. My Garmin has a POI for all the WalMart/Sam's Clubs in America and Canada.

Farm & Fleet in Sycamore had Blazzer Brass for $9.99

I went there to get a raccoon trap and bought ammo when I saw the price...

Don't know where you are, but Walmart in Bridgeview and Crestwood (both in Crook Co.) sell handgun ammo.  Certain stores carry it, and others don't, I'd call before I went driving around.

When?  Last weekend?  I went there 2 weeks ago, and they were asking > $12 for it, which I thought was crazy.  I even had a conversation with the employee stocking that section.  Did they lower their prices?  Or was it a soon-ending sale?  (I assume you're talking 9mm for that price.  If you're talking other calibers, that'd be even better!)

Walmart (Almost every Walmart outsite the city limits sells handgun ammo)
Meijer (although limited selection)
Cabellas, Bass Pro Shop, Gander Mountain (sometimes you can find great deals, but frequently overpriced)
Farm 'n Fleet
Gunbroker (although you're right; most won't ship to Chicago)
Online (Cheaper than dirt, Midway, AIM, BulkAmmo, etc...)  [Although also most won't ship to Chicago]

Mabye Federal Farmer or another Chicago resident can chime in on any online places that ship to Chicago...

Go to the Walmart in Bridgeview...103rd and Harlem Ave....this is likely the closest to you.  They have it locked in a case in sporting goods.

Walmarts outside of cook sometimes do not carry ammo, as it depends on the local laws too. I go to Walmart.com and search for Federal 9mm, which brings me here. Click "check store availability" and it will bring up a list of stores near you. If they have stock or are out of stock that is a walmart that carries hangun ammo. If the store is not listed at all, it does not carry ammo.

I've bought pistol an 223 at that Walmart. It's under the counter.

Thanks all for the recommendations. Bridgeview Wal Mart is fairly close to me, I can go to Ford City and take the girlfriend to Big Lots.

Hey Xwing, here are the places that I have ordered from and shipped to my house. Chicago zip 60656. Grafs, Midsouth, Buds, PSA,  ammunitionstore, Midway ( although from Midway only rifle ammunition, not pistol and no reloading components rifle included? go figure). The walmart in East Dundee had 17 boxes of American Eagle 55gr 223 rounds last night.  Then I visited, and now they only have 2 boxes.

We ended up driving out to Indiana Dunes over the weekend and I noticed a Bass Pro Shop on the way. Stopped in on the way back and they had some ok prices for cheap stuff at a big box store. Picked up some cheap 22 long, 38 special, 45 ACP.

Will have to check out some of those online sites. The internet deals really can't be beat over most of the brick and mortar stores.

Went to the Walmart link shows 13 stores within 50 miles of my zip only one is out of stock on Federal 9mm.
Jason do you have any idea what limited stock means?  1 or 2 show this.

What is the best price that anyone has found recently for 7.62x39 ammo, at a store or by mail when including shipping.  Walmart has Tula, steel case, for $4.98 for box of 20.

I feel your pain. My Garmin is set for every Starbucks known to man.

I wouldn't trust the in stock indicator for a store 100%. You probably want to call first. I have been to a store that showed in stock and was pretty much cleaned out (hammond)

Farm and fleet in montgomery has blazer brass 9mm 11.92 per. That is everyday price. I buy alot of it and it is cheaper than ordering from anyone online.
