As the title states, I'd like to ask my local police chief, county Sherrif and states attorney is they are in favor of  concealed carry. Also if I cannot find an e-mail for them what is the best way to ask them.

Thanks

What is your position on people carting hidden guns?

This question will make them believe you tilt much more anti-gun. Camouflage, NRA hats, shirts or 2nd amendment attire aside.

Greetings Chief, Sheriff, Whomever,

I'd like to know what your position on concealed carry is and why.

Thank you for your time,

If you're emailing your inquiry, that's good enough.

If you're asking through a hand written letter, a self addressed, stamped envelope would be a nice touch.

I prefer those questions to take place face-to-face.  I often casually ask LEOs for their take on carry laws.  I usually approach them in a nonchalant way.  I think you tend to get a more truthful answer if you ask in a neutral way, rather than if they know you are a strong supporter or opponent.

Far and away, most of the police I talk to are in favor of concealed carry.

My wife got a letter from our sheriff about joining the Illinois Sheriff's Association and mentioned their support of LTC in Illinois.   At least this would seem to indicate his is not anti-carry, unless he just tells constituents what they want to hear.

Remember the 1991 Luby Cafeteria Massacre of the Unarmed (Kileen, Texas before Texas Concealed Carry) Do we need 23 people to die in a similar incident before we're allowed effective self defense?

I talked to an off duty  deputy  and Srgt this weekend at a local college about an hr away as they were switching shifts on their part time gig ,  I was waiting on a defensive driving class.   One of them spotted my IGOLD T-shirt and  he started asking me  "  when are we going to get CC "  it was pretty obvious he thought it was needed.   Then after we chatted awhile,  he explained that the campus asked him  not to carry his gun because it " made students nervous"  And then he explained about the new library with a tower that oversees the entire bottom half and  that do to the layout and the fact that the buildings are not a traditional shape , that if some psycho wanted to shoot from there, he prays a good guy inside  is  carrying.  He said there is absoutly nothing that even the best swat team could accomplish from the outside due to the design of a building. We ended up chatting for over 30 min and even discussed things such at the diggins case and container " transporting".  I told him how I container  " transport" with a small zipperd pouch that slips into my front pocket.   They both immediatly looked at my pants and I smiled and said " I not dumb enough to attempt that at traffic school " They both said  we wouldn't blame you if you did, then they said we don't mess with people unless we see it and they are acting stupid.  All in all it was one of the better conversations I've had with LEOs that I didn't previously know.

I'm with Talonap.  Why beat around the bush?  It's not like they don't know what CCW is.

They know what CCW is, it's a the acronym for the criminal offense of " carrying a concealed weapon".

I'd turn it on them a bit and ask something like.  You carry every day and see all kinds of stuff daily on you job.

How do you feel about your spouse or family members having the (legal) ability to carry a firearm and be able to defend themselves while your on duty away from them?

I would just ask in a non-confrontational way. “What is your opinion on concealed carry.”  It usually opens a discussion, which frequently, though not always, turns out well.

You walk up to them with your hand on your hip and ask, "what would you say if I had a gun under my shirt?"

I think ask in private and humbly.
