I'm looking at picking up a new handgun from Walther but it comes with 12 round magazines. I'll be buying at a shop locally but It's my understanding that good ole' crook county and Oak Park limit magazines to 10 rounds. How are folks handling purchasing new when the manufacturer ships with mags you are not supposed to have? Are shops willing to open the case and replace with 10 rounders or without magazines prior to delivery?

I order the California mags directly from the manufacturer.

Be advised: Third party mags will void the warranty on your piece. Best to stay with the OEM.

Being a resident of C®ook county You can own all the standard factory magazines you want. You just cant keep (store) them in cook county. Have a relative or buddy that lives out of the county keep them at his house.

Most good shops will simply swap out the factory Hi-Cap magazine for a 10 rounder. When I purchased a handgun off gunbroker, I asked the seller (who owned a large gun shop) if he would swap out the magazine with a 10 rounder. He laughed and asked "why the heck would you want to do that"? I told him I lived in Chicago and he started laughing more. :hmm: He was in Arizona and said he doesn't sell or carry 10 rounders. Starting to see the picture here? I went to a local area gunshop who gladly exchanged my new 17 round mag for a 10.

I went today to place an order and found out that this shop doesn't take out of stock orders during the weekend and swapping out the magazines is out of the question. Maybe I need to find a better shop.

Has anyone noticed the severe drop in crime, since the 10 rd ban in Chicago? Didn't think so!

Your missing the point. Its for the CHILDREN.

Sounds like I'll just get the standard mags and store off site until I move to a city and county that has reasonable laws in a couple of years.

Yes, that is probably the best approach for you to take.
