Patriots & Tyrants Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:05 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:05 PM http://assembly.state.ny.us/Press/20120619c/Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, and Codes Committee Chair Joseph Lentol today announced passage of the Crime Gun Identification Act of 2012 that would require all new semiautomatic handguns sold in New York State, by 2014, to be microstamped with a unique code which is transferred to shell casings when the gun is fired. Better keep an eye open, Illininois never seems to be far "behind" when crazy ideas come up in California or New York. I am still waiting for Rham to talk about banning big food carts and sodas...
Jeffrey Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:10 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:10 PM Handgun sales to decrease in 2014, NY state...
TyGuy Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:15 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:15 PM I called 560AM about this issue last week. It's backdoor registration as well as keeping firearms out of the hands of the poor.
miztic Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:18 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:18 PM I thought that was going down in CA? now it happened in NY, did some brady type org. come up with this and sold it to a bunch of legislators? edit: in other news: record gun sales in NY 2012 and 2013
Patriots & Tyrants Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:22 PM Author Posted June 20, 2012 at 07:22 PM I would love to see people like Glock and Sig refuse to sell the NYPD and other NY law enforcment agencies any firearms, sort of like what Barret did in California over the states ban on 50 cal rifles.
colt-45 Posted June 20, 2012 at 08:34 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 08:34 PM what is that going to do if some one stills your gun. i hope they blow this out of the water in time cause it won't do nothing but put more on the gun owner and not the criminals. this still don't change any thing. if i owned a gun shop or ammo or manufacturer i'd move out. they need to protest this. did it pass the senate to?
Jason4567 Posted June 20, 2012 at 08:40 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 08:40 PM How easy will it be for the criminals to defeat this technology? It seems like all you would need is 5 mins and a nail file. At that point, this is just more persecution of lawful gun owners.
Jason4567 Posted June 20, 2012 at 08:52 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 08:52 PM Nevermind, I googled it. Wikipedia articleAnd yeah, 5 mins with a file, and don't forget to collect every casing you fire at a public range when you go. Someone could easily frame you for a crime. Not to mention how complicated it would be with reloads. There could be these stamps all over the casing...
3ddiver Posted June 20, 2012 at 08:57 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 08:57 PM I believe Remington said they would move if this became law.
bornhunter04 Posted June 20, 2012 at 09:04 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 09:04 PM Yup, if the cost to implement the micro-stamping technology is greater than projected sales in NY. See ya, no more glock sales to NY, simple as that. Unfortunately, not all companies are going to go that route, so no matter what, the Ignorance in NY will end up costing us all more money, since, the manufacturers will have to raise they're prices to make up for the increased cost in production........
billzfx4 Posted June 20, 2012 at 09:14 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 09:14 PM I'll bet revolver sales go up.
C0untZer0 Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:18 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:18 PM Revolvers would still be able to put a partial stamp on the primer via the firing pin. In CA the police were exempt. I thought most agencies had pretty stringent requirements for reconstructing a shooting by officers. Why would police be exempt? I'm assuming the politicians who want this don't actually want to end up paying for it out of their budgets?
ming Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:34 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:34 PM Revolvers would still be able to put a partial stamp on the primer via the firing pin. But the casing wouldn't be left behind.
C0untZer0 Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:39 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:39 PM Well it's obviously easy to get around this technology - like purchased used guns via the gunshow loophole I'm sure this legislation will be the illogical base for even more legislation - like outlawing the purchase of used guns.
oneshot Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:43 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:43 PM "NYC police were seen lined up at FAO Schwartz today to buy slingshots to carry on patrol..."
lieut89 Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:44 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 10:44 PM I believe Remington said they would move if this became law. Yes they did, I wonder if they will truly walk the walk should this be signed into law. http://www.uticaod.c...-gun-law-passes
Xwing Posted June 20, 2012 at 11:26 PM Posted June 20, 2012 at 11:26 PM Wow. A law even worse than the ones we have. This will drastically increase the price of firearms, which is really the only point of the legislation. It's there to make life miserable for gun owners, not to do anything to criminals.
Getzapped Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:00 AM Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:00 AM This is absolutely retarded!! How in the heck is a firing pin going to stamp a serial number into a primer? How many shots until the stamp is not legible! How many gun owners are going to be arrested for not having crisp letters imprinted into their primers? What a joke! How many criminals are gonna take their guns in to get them microstamped!! ugh i hate stupidity!

LOL, I've got this POS gun I was going to bring to the Chicago turn in. Maybe I should hold out and see if NYPD makes me a better offer
BadWaterBill Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:15 AM Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:15 AM From what I heard they want a 6 didgit # placed in the CHAMBER of the bbl. When the gun is fired the shell expands imprinting the # on the brass.

Buzzard Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:24 AM Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:24 AM As I recall, this legislation was first lobbied for by the owners of the technology to micro-stamp firearms. Kind of a product looking for a market and politicians passing a law to accommodate the owners of the technology. And of course, everyone involved makes a profit.
Yas Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:27 AM Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:27 AM All you need is one clever dude to litter a crime scene with used brass picked up from a gun range.
Buzzard Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:35 AM Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:35 AM All you need is one clever dude to litter a crime scene with used brass picked up from a gun range. Couldn't happen. Liberal politicians believe that criminals are honest and ethical people. For some reason, they believe that criminals obey the law.
willxjcherokee Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:39 AM Posted June 21, 2012 at 12:39 AM Wow this is a nightmare.Think about it. Smart criminal kills someone, litters brass they find at gun store/online.Insta-frame.
TTIN Posted June 21, 2012 at 01:08 AM Posted June 21, 2012 at 01:08 AM People in NY will be buying shell catchers....unless those become illegal also.

"MICROSTAMP-READY," WHEN USED WITH REFERENCE TO A SEMIAUTOMATIC 13 PISTOL, MEANS THAT SUCH PISTOL IS MANUFACTURED TO PRODUCE A UNIQUE 14 ALPHA-NUMERIC OR GEOMETRIC CODE ON AT LEAST TWO LOCATIONS ON EACH 15 EXPENDED CARTRIDGE CASE THAT IDENTIFIES THE MAKE, MODEL, AND SERIAL 16 NUMBER OF THE PISTOL. 2) REPLACING THE 37 FIRING PIN OF A SEMIAUTOMATIC PISTOL THAT IS MICROSTAMP-READY WHEN SUCH 38 PIN IS DAMAGED OR IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT FOR THE SAFE USE OF SUCH 39 PISTOL, OR REPLACING SUCH PIN FOR A LEGITIMATE SPORTING PURPOSE. I don't know, but this technology will cost an arm and a leg! I don't blame remington if they pack up and move!
Mr. Fife Posted June 21, 2012 at 03:09 AM Posted June 21, 2012 at 03:09 AM People in NY will be buying shell catchers....unless those become illegal also. What, someone already invented them? There goes that idea.
