Anyone have any idea about a release date for the springfield xds in .40 Cal. Also, has any mag capacity been indicated for the .40?
Thanks,

Considering the Springfield XDs (in .45) took so long to make to gun shops, I'm not holding my breath for the .40 or 9mm. I went and bought a 9mm Shield because I didn't think I'd live long enough to see a 9mm XDs.
If we expect that they'll use the same basic frame for the 9mm, then - and this is probably wishful thinking - they could keep the magazine the same width as the .45, and slightly stagger the rounds so that you'd get 7 in the same space as 5 .45s...

I was in Article II this morning for their open house/grand opening. There was a Springfield rep there, she said the XDs 9mm will be "out in a couple of months". (take that with a grain of salt) But, she said she had no knowledge of the .40.
BTW, Article II has Federal 9mm range ammo on sale for $9.99 today. (limit 3)

The back of the xdgear XDs holster says its for .45, .40, and 9mm XDs... They may be reconsidering making the XDs in .40, but from what I'd heard the 9 and 40 versions were designed before the 45. It would be a shame if they didnt make the 40 - that's the one I'd be most interested in.

As I was fondling the XDs in .45 at Article II's open house, the Springfield rep couldn't confirm if the .40 is going to be available. Which struck me as kinda odd. I would have thought she'd be able to say definitively one way or the other if the 40 is indeed going to be made--after all, she's the Springfield rep!
She WAS certain on the roll out of the Xds 9mm--"in a few months". Given that the Xds in .45 was supposed to be out in March/April....maybe Christmas for the 9mm? lol
But...every other XD and XDm (to my knowledge) is available in all three (9mm, 40 and 45) so, I'd expect the Xds to follow suit. Eventually.

I just bought a xdm .45 compact. What changes does the xds have?

Vess, the XDS (s stands for slim) is a true compact/subcompact CCW pistol. Even the "compact" xd and xdm models are pretty big. The "s" line is single stack and about an inch thick.

If the 9 sells, I expect they'll make a .40. The differences needed to go from 9 to .40 in a pistol are minor.
The S&W Shield introduction sure deflated a lot of the excitement from the XDS.
