As of May 31st, 1001 people have been shot in Chicago. Chicago is on track to tie or beat the totals from last year.

Chicago is ahead of schedule as far as homicides go with 227.

It is important to note that none of these shootings (zero) were done by holders of a Illinois Concealed Carry permit.

Let's put up billboards all around the city with facts like this. Who wants to go in on it with me?

How many of the shooters have FOID cards would be a better question. We all know know the number of Illinois concealed weapon permit's is zero.

Imagine a billboard that is updated periodically, like the ones indicating how much the lottery jackpot is worth!

I'm surprised Chicago hasn't just taken a page out of DC's book and let gentrification take its course, pushing all the crime outside of the city and then saying, "see, our strict gun laws worked perfectly."

Instead, they will just use these ridiculous statistics over record high shootings as an excuse to continue on with their, "see, we just need to get rid of all the guns and we'll be fine."

Sounds like a full time job. We could add it to the green job list since its outside.

Hey Rahmfather. How are all those strict anti-gun laws working out for you?

As to how many of the shooters had FOID cards? CPD does not track that.

Kids have also been maimed or killed by a mob of youths wielding 2x4's. This mayhem has nothing to do with the availablity of firearms to law-abiding citizens, and nothing to do with RTC licensing.

I reckon there is a reason for that. Oh, say....perhaps it'll make it blatantly obvious that law abiding FOID card holding citizens that would be eligible for concealed carry are not the ones doing it, and in turn would just make it clear that the Chicago/Cook County gun control laws only enable the bad guys to keep running amock.

It's pretty basic really. Criminals by definition do not obey laws - any laws. Passing more laws criminals will not obey just ignores the root cause of the problem.

I would contribute to a billboard, even though I'm cash-challenged.

I would lovve to visit my family and friends down there, but after 6 months with my WI CHL, I can't go back to being a subject of the Daley-ites.

(Rahm may be boss, but the bureaucrats and Coppers are still Daley creations)

The murder rate is nuts, and oddly weather dependent.

(Yo! It's hot......... let's shoot somebody!)

Hmm. I wonder if it's because the number is near zero, and would undermine his arguments... No, not that...

Is this guy supposed to be a police superintendent or a comedian? Crime is down in Chicago, just listen to what Rahm's lapdog superintendent just said....I'd say you're facing more than a perception issue McStupid and you better figure it out pdq or Chicago will burn this summer if you don't.

Amid media reports highlighting Chicago’s rise in homicides and shootings so far this year, police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Tuesday he is facing “a perception issue” when it comes to crime.

I'd like to see a law that police agencies are required to not only keep track of those arrested were in possession of a firearm, but did they or did they not possess a FOID card when arrested. Also the news media must include this in their reports. Then maybe the lawmakers and the public would see that most criminals don't have FOID cards.

The reason they dont keep track of them is cause they almost never catch the ones doing the shooting. How many stories are listed as "No one in custody.", "No suspects." etc...

Well they better do something about it because if you ask any of the so-called smart people, they will tell you about something called global warming. So it isn't going to get any better until we are all driving electric clown cars.

This is the reason I decided against going to the Cubs game tomorrow with my company. That and I would simply rather pour kerosine down my pee hole than to step foot in that damn town.

I too refuse to go there anymore. The last time I went, which was in protest, was to visit my sister which is also near Wrigley. We went to lunch and I paid way too much to park on the street for an hour. After our meal I was greeted with a nice orange envelope on my windshield. It was a $50 ticket for no front license plate. The thing that irked me the most was that it wasn't a cop that gave it. It was the Department of Revenue. Anything for a buck from those ********.

Yep that's why I'm taking wife and kid to the zoo in Indiana instead. Let's see go 3 hrs away to spend way too much money on overpriced food, get taxed to death on it and watch a loser ball team or take wife and kid to the zoo in IN 1 hr away where I can pay less for lunch, lower taxes and exercise my rights while doing it.....Hmmmm

I have a theory about justified defensive shooting that when a DGU shooting occurs by your average law abiding citizen, the end result is there is almost never a bad guy at large.

I think the main factor involved is that you have a wounded assailant who eventually shows up in a hospital and gets nabbed - or the BG is there at the scene (wounded or dead).

And also when the police have a live BG that they nabbed at the hospital or the scene, he almost always rats out his accomplises.

I agree Chicago politicians are taxing the city to death - they are choking it economically. You can force the restaraunt owners and ballpark vendors to charge the tax but you can't make people go there and eat.

The taxes are one of the things that is killing McCormick Place - the conventioneers hate paying $25 - $30 for a lunch !

I was in Madison to watch the Badgers play Penn State, around the stadium they had brats for $2.00 (I don't know what the in-stadium price was) but anyway, I come back to Chicago and go to a White Sox game and the same brat is $8.00 !!!

Posted
Well of course, that's not a theory it's a fact. Now it really doesn't happen all that often since on average 97% of the time the good guy does not actually shoot his sidearm, the mere presenting of the firearm is enough to stop the threat.

Geez... As a Sox fan I'd rather go to Wrigley dressed in little boy pajama blue than pour Kerosine down my...

Chicago's a pretty nice place if you stay out of a couple of neighborhoods.

The last time I paid for lunch at McCormick it was a bit under $10 during set up for the NATO thing. No bargain for sure, but it wasn't $25-$30.

perception issue McStupid and you better figure it out pdq or Chicago will burn this summer if you don't.

Amid media reports highlighting Chicago’s rise in homicides and shootings so far this year, police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Tuesday he is facing “a perception issue” when it

comes to crime.

McCarthy: On crime, 'We're having a perception issue'

Jody Weis was interviewed by Don Wade & Roma (WLS Radio) yesterday morning and explained that we need to focus on the first week or two of June so the fact that homicides are up 40% for the year does not cause a perception problem.

Here's my best attempt at transcription, starting at 4:19 and ending at 6:34. The emphasis is mine.

Don Wade: Yesterday the superintendent, McCarthy, said that he's facing a perception issue when it comes to crime. He was speaking at an event where he took questions and gave some answers. He pointed to declines in homicides and shootings in recent weeks but he said he's having a hard time getting that message to register with the public.

Jody Weis: Yeah, that, you know in this city, I think, is one of the hardest cities to overcome perception. If you look at the month of June, and I'm just pulling unofficial stats, the Chicago Police Department and the city, they're actually down 31% since June 1st. In 2012, unofficially there's been 18 murders and in 2011 there was 26. So the actual for the past 2 weeks or so it has been trending really nice.

The problem you have is because of the murder numbers throughout the year that every time you want to claim success, and they have done a really good job over the past 2 weeks, you look back and you still see that murders are up around 40%.

So its hard to, its kind of like a football team where you maybe you've lost several games in row and now you're playing well but maybe the overall season is still not a winning season yet.

Roma: Too...

Jody Weis: But it is tough to overcome perception.

I had that problem as well as anybody else. I went to meeting one day and said how many people, do you think there's been more killings this year or in 2001. And everybody raised their hand and said much more this year and we were down 200 murders from 2001

Roma: But ...

Jody Weis: But its a perception thing, its a 24/7 media cycle and that is tough to overcome.

Roma: Jody, the front page of the Tribune this morning has a chart on the deadly rise. Its has homicides from January 1 - June 11, 2011 were 169; 2012 - 228. So that's more than perception.. That's horrifying.

Jody Weis: Well, you're right. It is a fact and that's why its hard to overcome.

But the good news is if you look over recent time since, and Gary's made some adjustments, for the month of June the number are good. The problem what happens is you have last weekend which, that was dreadful. So you've had a very good first week in June, the cops are working really hard, everybody's doing great, and you have a bad weekend.

So, according the Weis, the media and general public are essentially to blame for failing to ignore the first 22 weeks of the year.

Illinois State Law requires a plate on the front of your vehicle. I do not have a front plate on my vehicle either but I don't think I have the right to complain about it when I get a ticket.

And why would it irk you that they have meter maids writing tickets instead of cops? Personally, I'd rather see cops chasing criminals than performing menial tasks like this.

Last time I checked Wrigley Field is not in Englewood...

I parked in long term parking at O'Hare for a business trip - I got back one day after my sticker had expired - actually I got back at 9:30 a.m. the day after my sticker had expired and I had a ticket. They must have people patrolling the lot at 8:00 a.m. sharp.

I think Chicago is very good at any type of revenue collecting activity. Not so good at stopping gangs and muggers.

I just don't appreciate the lack of focus in one area and the laser-like focus when it comes to fees, tickets and fining people.

I don't mind them being so efficient at giving out tickets while being so innefficient at curbing violent crime, per se, but it's insult to injury to not allow people to carry. You can't do all three - you can't be great at ticketing people, lousy at stopping criminals and deny the people you ticket the heck out of the right to defend themselves.
