Seeing how this is Illinois and all, I truly hope that if this bill receives a veto proof majority our side said we won't vote for it until a CCW bill is signed into law. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/clout/chi-illinois-house-approves-major-gambling-expansion-20120523,0,86582.story

Any reason why we are not taking up the CCW bills prior to this other garbage in Illinois? Last I looked, nothing in COTUS nor Illinois about gambling.

Anyone know for sure if the session will be extended?

Sorry for the rant!

Can we set up another Task Force to check on the progress of the first Task Force ?

:D

We can set up a blue-ribbon commission and even appoint a Czar.

About 300,000,000 should cover it.

The last I've seen was the task force report was looking to be pushed back until Dec 31st of this year. When I asked about it I was told it was a non-issue. Apparently that is not the case. Without this report does that mean we will not be calling our bills up for a vote?

I was thinking the same. Technically I think they can take until Dec 31st. Let's see what happens though.

It is my understanding the deadline for the report is fluid and can be moved to whenever the sponsor requests. It is also my understanding those involved are working on the report as fast as they can and want to get it right. Thirdly, it is my understanding that several legislators want to see the report before voting.

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like the report will be delayed until after this session and more than likely next year. Forcing another year of waiting upon the peons of Illinois. I guess if this was my report it would have a single page titled, "Look at the other 49 states"

The resolution that you speak of was never passed, simply passed out of committee. So, technically, the due date has passed. I'm assured that the holdup is just the volume of work being done by staff in the Capitol and the other issues that are still in play. Not a good answer, but the one I was given. I still have hopes and have been told that the report will come out before session is over and that there will be time for action on the bill.

But it's still not done much for my blood pressure!! We'll see what happens.

With regards to deadlines, why are there proceedure rules if the rules can be tweaked, bent or damn near broke off? Pass the blood pressure pills please

Because those in power can do whatever they want. Rules are to be ignored by the "elite".

I mean no offense to you AB, nor those who you recieved your information from, but if that's the excuse you're getting about why the report is not out, then someone is feeding you (and the rest of us.....) a line of BS. The meetings' done and notes collected, it should take one staffer maybe, maybe, 4 hrs. to put that report together and get it out the door. Someone is stalling, plain and simple. Which is more of the same, seems to me.....

There are sometimes good reasons to stall. For instance, it may make a lot of strategic sense to not call for a vote on LTC until after an appeals court ruling on the existing IL carry cases. Especially if it is in our favor. Right now we have very little to offer the other side to get 3/5 of both houses and a non-veto of some sort.

In any case, since the deadline has long since passed, it is pretty clear they are not going to make the deadline on the report. There is no penalty to anyone for not making the deadline either. It is like the 30 day rule for FOID cards. You make all the rule you want but if there are no penalties for failure to abide by the rules, just how are they to be enforced?

When was this "Task force" formed? Please refresh our memories.

At this point, what does it matter?

If they sat on their rears, waiting until the last minute to gather and post it's finding, yes. It does.

That delay probably cost RTC some serious points. A weakness exists somewhere and we would do well to address it before another effort is launched.

There was never a need for the task force in the first place and certainly no need to ever put one together again, so I say leave it lay and move on. The court cases are coming up shortly.

I hate to bring this up guys , and gals , but it wouldn't have mattered if the task force report came out a week ago. Madigan is the only person to blame at this time. It was he who made the decision to not allow the bill to come to the floor for a vote.

The Black Caucus wanted the task force as a means to justify a vote in favor of the bill or as an excuse to vote against it. The draft was delivered to the committee members late because staff was pulled off the report to work on SB1034. Hopefully the final report along with some other research will be released soon which I believe will shore up our efforts and possibly offer cover for some of the Black Caucus members to support Right to Carry.

Ok... the Photo-Journalist side of me just kicked in.

Getting pulled off of the task force to work on something else? Interesting timing.

Something smells and it not the provolone I had for lunch.

Yes, yes, it most definately stinks. I could postulate on the reasons for the smell, but I'm afraid they wouldn't be very well recieved.......
