I just gave my sister who lives in Tinley Park a call and asked her if she was aware of this incident. She had briefly heard about it from a friend of hers that was driving in the area of the restaurant at some point after it happened and the only thing that they knew was that the street was blocked off. I advised her to keep her eyes open on the way home, and to travel with her car doors locked. She's gonna keep her ears and eyes open for any info if she catches the news.

No descriptions whatsoever, im not familiar with the area, could this have been a gang thing or a biker gang thing? I almost have to discount bikers because typically they want everyone to know who did the crime but you never know.

Chicago tribune describes them all as wearing "black hooded jackets" (I guess Hoodie is a no no term now). Pure speculation but this sounds like a flash mob on a whole other level.

This is another example of why we need CC now in this state, INCLUDING in bars.

It was the middle of the lunch rush Saturday, and Mike Winston was working in the kitchen of his Tinley Park restaurant, The Ashford House, when a waitress screamed that a fight had broken out in the dining room.
Police call the melee at the restaurant a targeted assault by a mob that Winston said wielded metal batons and hammers. Ten diners were hurt in the attack, and three of those were hospitalized.
Tinley Park police had five suspected assailants in custody, and Winston said 18 young men, all wearing hooded jackets and obscuring their faces with scarves and other coverings, stormed into the restaurant. Police said there were 15 to 18 attackers.
“They came running in the door single file,” said Winston, who owns The Ashford House, 7959 W. 159th St., and the adjacent Winston’s Market.
Winston and police said the men knew who their targets were and that the attack wasn’t a random act of violence. Winston said the mob “targeted” a group of 20 diners, all of whom were from out of state.
“Once they attacked the table, they went and started hitting random people,” Winston said.
Along with hammers, the men used what Winston described as “old-fashioned police batons” as well as metal batons.
“Four or five people got knocked over the head pretty good, enough to require stitches,” he said.
He chased after one of the attackers “and had him on the ground, then five guys got out of a car and started kicking the (crap) out of me,” Winston said.
Winston said he was kicked in the back of the head and suffered several bruises, but he was the only restaurant employee who was hurt.
“They did a whole lot of damage,” he said. “They flipped over tables, they broke half the dishes.”
Surveillance cameras inside the restaurant captured the attack and footage was turned over to Tinley Park police, Winston said.

Police said the attackers fled in three vehicles, and that one vehicle was stopped near the intersection of 159th and Harlem Avenue.
Winston said that during the attack most of the men’s face coverings were torn off. “Most of these kids were white, and they all looked like they were between 18 and 25,” he said.
In a news release, police tried to assure residents the attack was “an isolated incident” and that “there is no immediate threat to the community.”
Winston said he has “no flippin’ idea” what sparked the incident. “We’re just a little family restaurant,” he said. Winston said employees would get the restaurant back in shape to reopen Sunday morning.
Tinley police said they were being assisted in the investigation by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and were awaiting charges to be approved by the Cook County state’s attorney’s office against the five men in custody.

It's the prices that keep me out of the city, not the violence. Took my wife and kid's to MSI a short while back and it was a bank breaker with a sack lunch. Nickel and dime you to death on exhibits...just sayin'.

I'm not sure that anyone in involved in this incident would have a ccw even if it were legal. I just don't think these are the kinds of people who have the brains or the interest in genuine self defense. I hope anyone on this board that would find themselves observing this kind of incident would do nothing more than get up and walk out. This was not a dynamic critical incident. It was a bunch of slant head retards that your piece of crap towns up there seem to be primed with this weekend.

You know...when I saw this on the news this morning, there was a single, white sedan in the parking lot right in front of the enterance to the restaurant.  The reporter didn't say anything about it, but the car had a bumper sticker on it that said something along the lines of "Stop White Genocide."  Of course, nothing was said about who the car belonged to, or whether or not they were involved.  Having grown up in that general area, I can say I honestly would not be all that surprised if the above story is true.

Who knows...perhaps no one at the restaurant yesterday (on either side of the melee) would be eligible to CCW even if we had it in Illinois....waiting to see more information....

So I wonder, if CCW were to pass in Illinois, would anti-gun sheeple or the media condemn an armed citizen who walked away from a situation like this rather than defending said sheeple?  I keep thinking of the phrase "I reserve the right to not assist those who would deprive me of my unqualified 2nd Amendment right to self defense".  I can imagine some people wanting to have it both ways since they already have the mind set that the police will always be there to protect them. While others would rush to condemn the MWAG, even if it was Roy Rogers on a white horse.

One way to overcome the public's supposed fear would be to cast pro-2A supporters as potential good samaritans when the SHTF. But given the way firearm owners are routinely thrown under the bus in Illinois, who would risk drawing a weapon unless they themselves were in harms' way? If the two groups in this restaurant were someone related (think Hatfields vs McCoys), a third party intervening could face the rage of both groups. Some situations could be hard to read.

Does the pro-2A movement need to talk down the vigilante role that the media and politicians portray?  Don't most of us just want to defend ourselves and loved ones?

I'm not thinking Good Samaritan "hero type thing" here.  But from reports at least one restaurant employe was injured.  Guessing it was some form of manager trying to stop the destruction.  Cook County's Sheriff is not in favor of Illinois CCW.  
This could have easily happened in a Denny's or other establishment that allows reservations and has setups for meeting rooms.

If you throw it into a "lucky hero scenario",  Recall this winter in the next town over (Orland Park) was the nut job that walked into the tanning spa http://orlandpark.pa...killer-cops-say   Where a guy was lucky enough to grab the guys weapon and turn it against him.


Molly and some of the Staff have certainly held CCW hometown meetings under similar venues.  As for the motivational poster Cook County's sheriff Tom Dart is the leading LEO in the area and we all know his name is missing from the list of Sheriffs that support for HB148 or similar legislation.  Dart's passed out plastic whistles around the county when he has citizens meetings. Thats his idea of protection.


Talking last evening over dinner to a relative thats LEO, the comment "Baseball bat's n' hammers? That's a shootable justification in my agency if something like that would happen."  Was uttered and I'm still trying to convince this relative to come over to our side.....


There's still not a full report yet on how many bystanders may have been injured.   This was just a really weird incident along with the black outfits while there the protests going on in Chicago also.
