Why is it that in the house "mr speaker" is never the actual speaker and in the senate "mr president" is never the actual president????
"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks"
-Thomas Jefferson-

Great, a self avowed racist is serving on the human rights committee.

Edit - he was on a different committee and this was to appoint him to the human rights committee, but it failed.

HB4968 sounds good.  Encourages breastfeeding.

I checked for HB4819 online but I didn't see anything yet.

Now, somebody 'splain to me why it's important that we have a law at the state level the encourages breastfeeding!!??

No, on second thought, don't.

I would, but I don't want to derail the thread.

If they are passing house bills does that mean that the next step is the governor's desk?

A House Bill that passes the Senate with no Senate amendments is off to the governor.  That's the status for HB4901.

If the Senate had attached an amendment it would be back to the House for concurrence.

Unless they are House bills that were amended by the Senate after they came over.  In that case, they have to go back to the House in their new amended form for a concurence vote.  i.e., the House has to agree with whatever the Senate did to their bill.  If the House approves, THEN it can go to the Gov.

At least that's the way I understand the process.

The vote on HB4901 was 56/0/0.

I don't see a change yet on HB4819 so probably out of the record today.

IT's starting to seem like it never end, isn't it?

Both houses are scehduled all next week, including the weekend, through 5/31/2012.  Budget considerations often extend that into June.

IIRC, the Illinois Senate Calendar had the last day as being the 31st....

There is also the possibility they could extend the session, as was pointed out by another member in a different Illinois General Assembly thread (it may have been abolt243, can't remember for sure).

So now, with this amendment, it looks like no one is allowed to use a crossbow?

As amended the bill would allow for the use of crossbows for deer hunting by  persons so physically handicapped that they cannot use a recurve or compound bow, but only if the are age 62 or older, and only on or after the second Monday following the Thanksgiving holiday.

And no, I am not making that up.
