Yea, I think this has given me a few more as well  ;)

I replied back to your PM with "another road to Rome".  Let me know how it works out.

Pyre, there's a free clean up utility called CCleaner that has an option to clear the DNS cache.  I've used it for years, on multiple computers, for clearing browsing history, etc.

After installation, add a check next the DNS Cache, click the Analyze button,  then Run Cleaner.  If you haven't cleared the browser cache in the past it might take a while to run.  After its done un-check DNS Cache since you probably don't want to clear this routinely.

Did everyone make it??  Or, did someone get "flushed" out?

Well I didn't get it to work, but ran my Spybot program (it is a free anti virus program BTW), and I guess everything got flushed out.  I was thinking maybe I should have said good bye to everyone last night.   But I saw that after waiting a day I should be able to get back on, so I didn't.

Just saw Pyres post.  Still with the old IP, well maybe I'll be off for a day or so. I never did get "run as administrator"  only "libraries"  I've got Windows 7, BTW.   I did get to see some pictures of some of my grandchildren there.  Maybe I'll have to get one of them to help me with this.

I have no idea what any of that means but after following the steps it said Successfully Flushed. Could someone explain in English what this all means?
"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks"

An ip address is like the address on your mailbox.  Every computer on the internet has an ip.

Ip addresses are much harder to remember than names, so in comes what's called DNS (Domain Name System), where a network server converts "Names" to ip addresses.  So, as a result, all you need to know is "www.google.com" or "illinoiscarry.com".  What's really happening though, when you type illinoiscarry.com into your browser, is there is a conversion that "resolves" illinoiscarry.com into an ip - which gets you to the right place.

We recently changed to a new technology which allows us to distribute network traffic over multiple servers.  We are doing this via a load balancer, who has his own ip address.  This would be analogous to a PO Box at the post office, vs a unique mail box in front of your house.

Now, having explained that:  When you have your address book at home, and you send letters, what happens if someone moves or gets a PO Box?  You have to update your address book, right?  Windows keeps a cache of addresses so he does not have to resolve DNS names.  This cache is intended to improve performance, and lighten the load on DNS servers.  Normally the "address book" expires causing windows to update every 24 hours.  If there is an IP change, you can do 1 of 2 things:  1. Force windows to update the cache by flushing it, or 2. wait for the old cache to timeout (expire).

Hope this clarifies things to anyone who might be interested.

Keep in mind guys, your old DNS entry will expire eventually, and this will switch over automatically. It depends on how your ISP has set it up, but it can be in as little as an hour, but usually within 24-48 hours. My guess is for most people if they can't manually flush the DNS, worst case is they would be back in a day or two.

I don't know if Pyre wants to, but it is also possible to just publish the direct IP address so people could access it within that 1-2 day window while they wait for it to expire automatically. There are security reasons he may not want to do that though.

My intention was more to make people aware of the situation than to mandate any sort of action.

If you try to get to the site, and it says server not available, then you may have to perform the suggested actions.

Anyone who wishes to get the site's IP directly may do so via ping, nslookup, tracert, etc...  Its public knowledge 208.93.158.204

Anyhow, this hopefully concludes this thread, but anyone with access issues can feel free to post (assuming they can do so from a device which does not have access issues)

BTW, I'm the only one here! Good thing I accidentally clicked on this thread last night. I'm not kidding either. I'd at least be cussin' at the screen right now if I didn't. Think I'll get and echo if I yell real loud?

I believe the lack of "active' users is because we are now running on the load balancer on multiple servers.
