GarandFan Posted April 27, 2012 at 12:27 AM Posted April 27, 2012 at 12:27 AM Good stuff. Court clears up ambiguity being exploited by Universities. http://www.necn.com/04/26/12/Ky-high-court-Gun-in-glove-box-legal-on-/landing_politics.html?&apID=9ddf010e19e74f21ad536290de27cdde Short story: Via some arguably conflicting statutes, Universities assumed they had authority to ban guns in private vehicles while they were on campus. University of Kentucky actually fired someone over this (a graduate student who worked in radiology). Michael Mitchell. He sued. Court clarified that state law prohibits universities from banning guns within glove box or interior compartment of their locked vehicle while on campus. Clarified that RTC licensees can keep guns anywhere inside their locked vehicles. Before this, keeping such weapons was lawful under state law, but universities could discipline faculty, staff, or students for such conduct. After today, they cannot.

So his law suit won't get him anywhere?
Sigma Posted April 27, 2012 at 01:34 AM Posted April 27, 2012 at 01:34 AM what is the problem with a gun secured in your car? if you are a killer you could go to get a gun from anywhere and come back just as easily
GarandFan Posted April 27, 2012 at 02:25 AM Author Posted April 27, 2012 at 02:25 AM Decision is here: http://opinions.kycourts.net/sc/2010-SC-000762-TG.pdf Yes, Mitchell won the case, and UK was found to have wrongfully terminated him from employment. The University is liable for relief and damages, including civil damages. The case was remanded to figure all that out. NRA was quite involved in this case. Thank you NRA.
