I already have my gear and ammo ready. I've been practicing my draw and getting acquainted with doing more than standing straight with my pistols. I do plan to attend OPSC IDPA in may and it will probably be my regular place to shoot IDPA. May 20th is going to be an interesting Sunday morning. I've already downloaded and read the rulebook twice and surfed the forums plus watched many great youtube videos on starting tips and tricks. I'm as ready to go as I can be at this point.

I have been shooting IDPA for about eight years now and started with a beat up but accurate S&W model 10 38spl revolver.  So as far as I know it is the cheapest action pistol sport you can get into.  I am in east central Illinois about 7mi from Indiana and the closest clubs are there.  It is still 80 miles to the closest at Wildcat Valley, then 110 mi. to Atlanta Concervation club.  I am the only one in my immediate area that shoots IDPA so I go myself.  The nice part when the weather is good the Harley Springer does well on gas.  I have also shot at OPSC for the Illinois state match twice when it was still being held there.  North Porter County is a nice club also and I shoot there sometimes, about 150 miles each way.
Buzzard, I shot a match at Atlanta a couple years ago with a gentelman in a wheelchair.  He was slow but accurate and had a great time.  IDPA has limits on the amount of movement required so that is allways good for us old guys.  I highly recommend the sport and all you have to do is be safe and a decent sport and you will have found a home.   Jim.

I was thinking of going to Pinetree on Thursday.  Do I need a member to get me on sight or is it open to the public?  I might just watch this week.

A freind of mine and I shot our first IDPA last thursday evening with the Mchenry IDPA Club. Having never shot in the scenario situations they make up was A HUGE AMOUNT OF FUN... I already shoot twice a week, so putting practice to pistol was great and being able to draw from the CC holster or my serpe was exciting, it also showed me where I need to improve. We are on the wisconsin/ Illinois border so we have a few places we shoot already, mostly in racine though. Going to Mchenry is a 40 min drive but well worth it.

I went the last two years it was held in Plainfield; 2009 and 2010 at the Oak Park Sportsmans Club.  There it was about a 140 mile ride while Sparta is a fair amount farther.  Just not do-able for me.

Slightly off topic but is anyone here going to shoot in the Indiana State Match October 6,2012.  I have been a SO there for the last four years and will be there again this year.  I started a thread in "The Back Room" about this.  In fact the match is allready full except for a few more are needed for staff.  It is a great match and if any SO's read this check it out.   Jim.

I have my USPS memebership but haven't yet shot. I got in January but man, time is just one thing I have so little of.  Lots of ranges all around. www.wheretoshoot.org  www.uspsa.com Youc an find a list that are affilated in your area.

If I could shoot one match a month I'd be in heaven... ammo is just too damned expensive even with my wholesale discount.

Getting my range safety officer certificate this Sunday. I wish I could make it.

It was hot as hell but my first ever IDPA match was worth every penny I spent making ready and even the sunburn! Though unclassified I fell squarely in the middle of the competition from all 60 shooters, including those classed as Marskmen and Sharpshooters. I came home and joined IDPA and the next match at OPSC is in 2 weeks. Hopefully I can get up to Rockford to shoot with some IC members as well. I am hooked, this is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!

Oh, and as for my $450 1911, it performed as well as those shiny Kimbers and custom CZs that people were toting around! Accurate, dependable and points like its part of my body, the SO and Master shooter commented on my accuracy for a first time IDPA shooter. Once we get CCW, I may just carry it every day!

It's so fun, it makes you wish you had started going to matches sooner doesn't it?

I've only shot two matches so far, and I'm signed up for the IL State Match @ Sparta. I'm really looking forward to seeing what stages they've come up with.

I shot the classifier the other day and came in as a Sharpshooter.....I got some points down because my gun was shooting low w/ the fiber optic sight on it, i've fixed that by putting a shorter sight on it.

The one thing I've learned already it to make good hits, speed will come. Fast with poor shooting = slow.......

Unfortunately this weekend is booked with the sister in law in town, holiday BBQs and Greyhound rescue. I shot exactly 101 rounds on Sunday, with 1 failure to engage a target which would have been 3 more rounds. I think I still have about 200 rounds of .45 left so with another box I can shoot 2 more matches until I may have to switch to 9mm to thin out some of that stocked up ammo, but I just dont think I could shoot that well with my 92FS. I'm going to need a part time job so I can just dump those checks right at the ammo company

Hey Vaden, I'm in Streamwood, and a member of PineTree. If you're thinking of checking out USPSA, drop me a line...maybe we can carpool to Pine Tree sometime.
We usually shoot every Thursday, as well as the Sunday monthly.

Chip, thanks for the invite. Add I said I can only afford to shoot once a month or so but I may take you up on a Sunday USPSA match, I'd like to see the difference, and get more trigger time.

As for reloading, that's all fine and dandy and something I would love to do but I don't have the hundreds to start up that part of the hobby yet. Maybe some day!!
