This is some fine investigative journalism. It's unbelievable what crap comes out of the institutions of higher education in this country.

There may be more pro  LOCALS,  but  I'd venture to guess that 90% of EIU students come out of cook county so nothing would suprise me.

Let's put some perspective on these numbers:

TEN students were concerned about violence associated with carrying guns. Thirty were not.

NINE students felt "safe enough" on campus. THIRTY-ONE students did not feel "safe enough" on campus.

Y'know, looking back at the numbers, it adds up to 40 students. Basically this is a biased poll by a student, citing the various reasons his anti-freedom buddies have for hating guns. Lousy science, lousy reporting. I still give him an "F".

All that being said I never felt a need for a gun at EIU.   The place is very safe but we all know as seen at other Universities, things can change in a second.

40 students......40 WHOLE students.....last time I was @ EIU on Business they had a lot more than 40 students.

BTW ...............

For all of you who didn't know this, Eastern Illinois University has a shooting range under the main gymnasium in the Lantz building and students can elect to take rifle and pistol which counts towards a physical education course and gets you 1 credit hour.  I was there 8 years ago so I don't know if this class is still available now.

Perfect setting for a CCW course IMHO.  Should almost be mandatory.  I took it while at EIU.  

Guns on campus in the hands of students in a classroom and range setting without ever a problem.


The Rifles and Pistols used are all .22

I never knew that,   Lakeland ( for those not familar with the area it's the JUCO in the next town over)   had a skeet class.  People had shotguns on campus and nobody even batted an eye.

A girl off campus was choked to death by a guy (I believe it may have been her ex boyfriend or someone she knew). Incident

A female friend of mine who knew her well was so outraged and moved by this event that she basically devoted her life to educating women on how to be proactive and and protect themselves in an attack. She travels around the country speaking and doing seminars.  She has been on nationwide TV countless times.  Pretty Amazing to say the least.   Erin is an amazing individual and what she is doing is beyond words.  Being in so many classes with her we always knew she would go on to do great things and I am glad to know her.

Man I remember the McNamera case,   Nobody knew at first  what had happened,  all the college girls were freaked out!  That was the same incodent that spawned me to bring one of my guns from back home  to my apt. because my GF at the time was literally afraid to leave the house. That is WAAAY COOOl  that your friend decided to do something about it!  If you are still in touch, mabey she would get involved with ILlinoisCarry ?   We need ALL the women supporters we can get!

not sure if its intentional or not but the way its written someone just skimming the article might read that as something like "27 students out of 40"

With a sample size of 40, it may well be the whole sample is from the journalism class or the fraternity.  I'm with the folks who gave the guy a "F."  It would have been nice to see the survey instrument.  Maybe he'll post that in the near future.  If he has a well-designed survey, it might be something to pass around the state.  

One could hit all the universities and maybe go out to the malls or downtowns.  If I worked out well, we could take it to the governor.
