Every President updates the sdme order during (usually) their first year in office. Here's is a copy of the 1988 Order signed by Prsiednt Reagan:

Executive Order 12656


This order is changed to reflect the changing needs of the country and/or the availability/non availability of assests and supplies. For instance i the 1988 version there is no reference to the Internet and starting with President (the first one) references to that were first taken into account.

If anything, President OIbama has been pretty law. This may be his last year in Office, he should have had it done at least two years ago.

If he had anything to hide, all he had to do was declared it "Secret" and not let anyone read it. he has issued several highly classified and undisclosed Executiove Orders and I would be very much more frearful of what they contain.

I have a feeling he's going to take over. I've been saying since he got elected that he will use some crisis, real or manufactured, to declare martial law and suspend the elections. As arrogant and narcissistic as he is, he's going to be very dangerous to the country if reelected or as especially as a lame duck because if he loses the election he's going to be really pi$$ed.

He doesn't have the authority to suspend elections. He could try, but I don't think it would work out very well for him.

Given how many election authorities there are and that none of them work for him directly one would think it would not be real easy to directly do so.

If you look at history, you would see how much long term planning and preparation would have to go into a complete government take over. Hitler and the National Socialist Party in 1920s Germany would be a good example.

Obama has neither the leadership skills or the support to attempt something like that. The military would not obey his orders and the populance would rise up in armed defiance.

That's not to say that something like that isn't possible but it's not with this president and this political climate. At best, all that could be achieved would be an open civil war.

Four years ago we had people on this forum that insisted GW was going to do the same thing.
Didn't happen then, won't happen now.

I do not agree with BHO on much of anything, but the man is not a lunatic.
A bit of a fanatic in his ideology, but not crazy.

I had the same thoughts about W.  I can't remember the particular laws that were passed at the time that prompted those thoughts, but there were some power grabs that really gave me pause, along with a lot of other Americans.  When it comes down to it though, they're simply figureheads, they don't have the real power.

You know I've looked at the ground shift in political power that has taken place over the course of the last century and I've heard certain changes framed with the idea that there is some group that is pushing for global domination and a totalitarian, but being that these changes have been taking place so gradually and the people who supposedly who started them and many of them who've continued them have died, I don't see that it's true that such a goal was at the heart of these changes.  That being said, I do think that people who seek out power, like power and the benefits that come from it and they do make changes to suit their tastes for influence and convenience in ruling, I think it's just an unfortunate byproduct that they are setting the stage for someone in the future to take advantage of this eventual amassing of power in one bold coup.  That doesn't mean that they are any less threatening, that we should be less inclined to resist and object to these reductions in our liberties, but I think it's helpful to realize that few of these people have the objectives that we tend to paint them with.  To acknowledge this, I think will help those of us who oppose the diminishing of liberty to appear less as conspiracy nuts and more like those who've become reasonably concerned with the direction of our Republic.

I use to think of any conversation was as a result of conspiracy nuts.  I read Matt Bracken's book, "Enemies, Foreign and Domestic" which was about an out of control ATF conducting a plot directed at getting the citizens to approve the seizure of all guns in America and laughed at the impossibility of it. Well written book but ridiculous unbelieveable plot.

Then we all found out about Fast and Furious. The people that run the ATF and also the people in the Justice Department had that very intent with Fast and Furious

I think our way of life, the liberties that we enjoy here under a constitution that protects us from an out of control government is rapidly coming to an end.

In Section 201( b ), he added the words "under both emergency and non-emergency conditions".

Reason enough for me to he concerned.

Oblama has NO respect for this country, not the Constitution.  He is a puppet, controlled by entities hiding in the wings, doing their bidding to weaken the US.  His (Their) ultimate goal is to cripple our country and deliver us into the 'caring hands' of our traditional enemies.  He (they) are intent on ensuring the US is reduced to a dependant state and there are NO MORE self-reliant individuals within our shores.  If he gets another 4 years, the US will cease to exist as we know it today.  There WILL be a war within our borders, and it will be such a conflict to make the civil war look like a Beverly Hills Wives episode.  The carnage will be spread from sea to sea, Canada to Mexico, and we will be doubting our brothers.  Obama in a second term will destroy us.
