I'm not sure if this has ever been posted here before?  This is about the neatest idea I've seen in a while. Seems like this product was almost made for us in Illinois.  Kinda Hokey for a guy to carry (Guess a black one would be OK) but nonetheless a serious defense tool for those of us who still can't legally carry a firearm to defend ourselves.  Illinois State Police say use a key to thwart an attack, well this takes it up a notch and really is a good idea.  This even has a bright flashlight built in.  I'm sure Illinois has some ridiculous law against this as it may actually help level the playing field in an attack, and we all know Illinois politicians and lawmakers want us to be completely defenseless sheep. Still I would love to see these on the key rings of all the ladies as it is a good tool and cool key chain for $20.  Maybe a group buy in I Gold yellow would be kinda cool.

Its been a while since a product's ingenuity caught my eye.  Please have a look.

Now that Brass Knuckles are illegal regardless of the material that the are made out of, why would this thing not be considered "knuckles".

I was trying to edit the original post but I found some more links for the item.  Technically its a key chain.  Can't help it it can be used as a self defense tool.

The original Key Kitty seems to be out of business now.(maybe they were shut down?)  But while doing a search online I found that there are many others just like it, some even in the shape of a dog.  I bought one off ebay for $5.99.  Good piece of mind for that price IMHO.  See the link in y post above this for details.

I presume that knuckledusters are illegal only in some states?  At Kentucky gun shows, I see LOTS of brass knuckles for sale.  Also the "key kitties" mentioned by the OP.

Brass knuckles are definitely illegal in IL per 720 ILCS 5/24-1, and possibly even this kitty thing depending on how gung-ho the police and prosecuters are:
"A person commits the offense of unlawful use of weapons when he knowingly ... possesses or carries ... metal knuckles or other knuckle weapon regardless of its composition"

So what you're saying is that I just need to put one of those key chain rings through the retention hole in the bottom of my Glock's pistol grip?  That would make it a key chain and thus legal to carry!  Sweet!

It's a keychain.  They Illinois state police website says to use a key to protect myself.  Pretty clear and straightforward.

No prosecutor would ever touch a self defense case with a keychain shaped like a cat, especially in Illinois with the amount of publicity Illinois is getting for no carry laws.  If they did so be it, I'd be the next Mary Shephard.

The politicians in this state have some real eye openers coming, self-preservation and right to self defense is becoming more and more important.  One day the sheep will revolt and say they aren't going to take it anymore.  People say the southern states are backwards..... No they aren't , we are.  When did protecting yourself from an attack become against the law.  No gun, no taser, no mace, no knuckle devices, no knives.  I'm sure there must be a law about a walking stick or club.  I guess I only fit into society if I lie down and choose to become a victim.

IMO - this is legal limbo land.  The kind of stuff lawyers love to debate ad nauseum.

To me - there is too much of a chance that if I carry one of these things, it gets catregorized as brass knuckles and there goes my right to carry a firearm - when IL finally does get a carry law.

Careful with this stuff guys...these kinds of things spell TROUBLE in this state. Just look at all the issues surrounding carrying fireams in a cars console which has been judged as being a case. There is case law...and yet some LEO's still may attempt to arrest you for doing it. The other thing is this device is carried with the intent of hurting someone, granted the hurt may be due the unfortunate one but the intent is there. Some LEO's and lawyers just love this kind of stuff.

This reminds me of the incident in Salem Illinois some years back where a woman had brass knuckles paper weights for sale at a gun show or flea marke.  An undercover cop came to her booth and asked if they were brass knuckles and she said "No paper weights" Her last name was Haggerty or something close to that Vanessa Haggerty if memory serves.  She had an unloaded handgun in a bag and was arrested for it.  Wasn't convicted for having the gun, don't know about the brass knuckle paper weights.

Did some googling it was Vanna Haggerty, it happened in August 1999 read an account on The Firing Line Forum.
