The 97th General Assembly "Part 2" started January 30, 2012 and we are in need of volunteers to help watch for new bills. Monitoring this is critical to our continued success in fighting for our Second Amendement rights, yet the process is quite easy.

Each volunteer will be assigned a group of 200 bill numbers. Simply visit the Bills and Resolutions page of the General Assembly, click on the number groups assigned to you, and check any that appear to effect us (normally this is best done by right clicking the bill, then clicking "open in a new tab". so you don't lose your place in the list).

Pay particular attention to bills that effect the following codes, including "shell bills" that change a single word but can be used for other purposes later. Appropriations bills can be ignored:

430 - Public Safety Code
520 - Wildlife Code
525 - Conservation Code
720 - Criminal Code

Since we started monitoring bills last year many number groups are already assigned:

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. - C.S. Thanks Johnnybgood. They're yours.

Rather than start a thread for the ILGA, I'll post here that it looks like the House canceled the previously scheduled session today.

Aren't these the bills that we read when they were first introduced at the beginning of the session?
"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks"

The bills above the line -------------------------- are those that were assigned last year (generally), and below the line are newer. I included the old ones so no one would wonder why I skipped a bunch.

Edited to ask which ones I should pencil you in for?

Just click the link in my opening post to go to the General Assembly page for Bills and Resolutions. You'll see something like this:

ILGA Bills and Resolutions.jpg

Click on the group(s) assigned to you to get the full list of titles. It will be similar to this:

ILGA Senate Bills 3201 - 3270.jpg

The bills indicated would definately be something to look at. Click them, read the descritpion, and post in this thread if they are firearm related. You can follow examples set in the earlier thread (see post #15 for example).

Can I put you down for a few?

My first one.

SB2835 - Amends the Criminal Code of 1961 and the Unified Code of Corrections. Permits currently employed and retired State correctional officers to carry their own firearms off duty without being in violation of the unlawful use of weapons and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon statutes if they meet certain training requirements.

SB2888 - Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning the use of force in defense of a person.

Let me know if I need to put more info into these, thanks for letting me help.

Good catches Rods!!! I think all Mauser wants it the bill number and a brief description just as you've done. They'll go on a list to watch and if they start to move, or get amended to substantial meaning, we'll know to make some calls.

Again, nice job!! Be careful though, if you get good at this Mauser will start assigning in blocks of 300!!!

Here's what I saw in the SB 3101 - 3300 batch I took. There are a couple of shell bills that refer to the administrative code but no language that concerns me at the moment. I noted the numbers and will check on them every few days to make sure they don't do an end run.

I'll work on the HB batch later tonight or first thing in the morning.

SB 3205 - SHELL BILL Creates the Law Enforcement Act. Contains only a short title provision. Sen. James F. Clayborne, Jr.

SB 3206 - SHELL BILL Creates the Law Enforcement Act. Contains only a short title provision. Sen. James F. Clayborne, Jr.

SB 3207 - SHELL BILL Amends the Environmental Protection Act. (possible use for a bullet type ban) Sen. James F. Clayborne, Jr.

SB 3218 - CRIM CD-GANGS-NO FIREARM (same bill he ran last year with more restrictions and penalties) Sen. Dan Kotowski

SB 3219 - FOID CARD ACT-PRIVATE SALE (private sales only thru FFL with background check) Sen. Dan Kotowski

Tim

Looks great to me.

Nice to have your help, SMSRods.
