Kenny Posted April 10, 2010 at 02:58 PM Author Posted April 10, 2010 at 02:58 PM Date: Wednesday May 26th 7-?? Date: Giovanni's 610 North Bell School Road Rockford, IL 61107-5202 (815) 398-6411 Speakers: Valinda Rowe ------IllinoisCarry spokesperson (confirmed) Todd Vandermyde----NRA Lobbyist (maybe) Joe Bruscatto ----Winnebago County States Attorney -----(confirmed) Jason Plummer -----Candidate for LT Governor ------------(maybe) Mike Weisman ------ Vice President of the ISRA ----------(I need to talk to him) I am working on lining up other speakers, anybody have any ideas? Do we want the Sheriff & his opponent to speak? they are both pro carry. How about Dave Syverson? Dave Winters? I plan on inviting all the politicians that are running for office & giving them time on the mic (rhetoric limited to RTC topic) after the speakers are done. depending on how many show up we will limit their time on the mic. I will invite Brady & Quinn and all others as well.
Buzzard Posted April 10, 2010 at 03:24 PM Posted April 10, 2010 at 03:24 PM You gonna have time for all those speakers??
Kenny Posted April 10, 2010 at 03:32 PM Author Posted April 10, 2010 at 03:32 PM You gonna have time for all those speakers?? There are only 2 confirmed, the rest I am asking for input who we should have? We have the ballroom until midnight.
Buzzard Posted April 10, 2010 at 04:30 PM Posted April 10, 2010 at 04:30 PM I'd love to hear Sen. Dave Syverson tell his version of sitting on the Public Health committee and answering to Sen. Ira Silverstein's comment that "Twenty one states have a mandatory bicycle helmet law. Why shouldn't Illinois?" I'd bet it would get a HUGE cheer from the audience! It sure did in that Capital Public Health committee meeting!! You should ask him. Just remind him it was Sen. Ira Silverstein's mandatory bicycle helmet law - SB2627. You can read my version here. And try to get Todd there so we can hang later.

Kaeghl Posted April 11, 2010 at 09:12 PM Posted April 11, 2010 at 09:12 PM Wednesday? poop. I was hoping for a Sunday when I'd have a night off... I'll see if the company can cut me a vacation day then. I figure with speakers, you need someone in the audience, right? Politicos speaking would be good, but the dream-team would be Mr O McDonald and the Chicago pres of CORE. (happily imagining all the Chicago based uber-control-freak's heads melting hearing that on the news....heh heh heh)

Good job, Kenny!!!lol Well I just know the media will remember his estimate and then when there's 500 in attendance they'll say "gee they didn't get near as many as they expected" So how did it go?

Buzzard Posted May 27, 2010 at 06:01 PM Posted May 27, 2010 at 06:01 PM Last night at the Winnebago Co. RTC Town Hall Meeting, a show of hands clearly showed that it was mostly gun owners in attendance. It was also determined that a large percentage of the audience were visitors to this site. While that is good, it was also conceded that the evenings speakers were "preaching to the choir." I got the same impression when I organized the Ogle Co. Concealed Carry Town Hall Meeting over a year ago. We seem to only get gun owners in attendance at these meetings with very few people that aren't already quite familiar with concealed carry and how it works. I suggest we need to improve on our promotion of these events. If we want to increase our numbers, we need to start looking in new places. We need to get more fliers out to public places besides just the gun shops. Supermarkets, accounting offices, hairdressers and barber shops. Any place where law-abiding people do their business. In other words, if we only post fliers in the choir room, then we shouldn't be surprised when only the choir shows up to sing praises to concealed carry.

We're trying to incorporate language in the flier for our town hall to say something like "if you support the right to carry or have questions or concerns about this issue please join us....."Fliers and donations are going to and coming from individuals who aren't involved that much, farm emplement stores, grocery stores, pizza joints and so forth.
Ol'Coach Posted May 28, 2010 at 02:35 AM Posted May 28, 2010 at 02:35 AM It's my feeling that the point we have to make is, a person's life, and the lives of his/her family members are no less valuable at WalMart, or an I-90 rest area, than they are at home! Why should I be allowed to defend my family only in my home? The natural right to defend oneself/family doesn't end at home! i.e., seems to me that most folks agree that the gentleman that recently shot the intruder into his home had every right to do so, regardless of whatever Chicago gun ban. If the incident had occurred at some I-90/94 rest stop, should he not have that same right? How does location preclude the natural right to self defense? "Oh, my! I'm at an interstate rest stop...I'll just have to dial 911 and hope they get here in time!" Bu!! $H!+ Rant over.
