Kenny Posted February 22, 2010 at 11:52 PM Posted February 22, 2010 at 11:52 PM I got this Remington 700 LTR in on trade and I thought it was ugly so I Duracoated it. (with some help from Grimes) I took it apart last night, grimes sandblasted it & this morning we painted it & put it back together this afternoon. If anybody wants to Duracoat a gun let me know, We are getting pretty good at this stuff. I am going to start doing this & going to go take the class to be certified. Zenvar Posted February 23, 2010 at 01:02 AM Posted February 23, 2010 at 01:02 AM I have been debating about getting my Taurus PT1911 duracoated. That's been my only complaint so far, the finish on it. Plus I think it would look so much better in matte black!
Kenny Posted February 23, 2010 at 01:24 AM Author Posted February 23, 2010 at 01:24 AM Just wondering, how would you ever swap barrels if you wanted to? Easy just paint the new barrel!!!!

Grimes Posted February 23, 2010 at 02:19 AM Posted February 23, 2010 at 02:19 AM Just a "Little help" from me? I'm pretty sure I did most of the painting!! haha As for wanting the Taurus matte black, there are a bunch of different blacks. My favorite is SOCOM, which has a tint of gray to it. Stealth gray is also nice. I have at least one shotgun in each of those colors, and also one done in black oxide (matte black). Let me know if you want to see the difference in the colors. Pretty tough to tell by pics though. Matt
Zenvar Posted February 23, 2010 at 03:56 AM Posted February 23, 2010 at 03:56 AM How far from Rockford are you? There is an endless array of colors!! Kenny,I am way down in Oakwood, about 30 miles east of Champaign/Urbana. So it's a bit of a drive Matt,It would probably be doubly hard for me to see the difference...I am partially color blind. I do know I want a matte finish...never been a fan of shiny. Well, other than with gadgets..."Oooh look, shiny bits!" I will have to check out the colors at Duracoat's website though, thanks for the suggestions! Michael
GNHNTN Posted February 23, 2010 at 04:10 AM Posted February 23, 2010 at 04:10 AM What's a used 700 LTR with all the goodies worth nowadays Kenny?
Kenny Posted February 23, 2010 at 01:40 PM Author Posted February 23, 2010 at 01:40 PM What's a used 700 LTR with all the goodies worth nowadays Kenny? They are worth around $1000 but I am valuing this one around $1700 because it has the bedded aftermarket stock, the bi-pod, & the paintjob, & I think i really want to keep it. It is probably overvalued by about $300-$400

Matt Will do! Thanks! It's gonna have to wait, for now I am working on saving enough for a CZ 75B. Oh and you were so right about trying to see the difference between the colors in a picture, but I did like that socom color. Michael
Mr. Runyon Posted February 23, 2010 at 11:11 PM Posted February 23, 2010 at 11:11 PM I have a Taurus 1911 as well. I'd kinda like to see what one of them would look like duracoated the same color you did the 700 in.

I'd kinda like to see what one of them would look like duracoated the same color you did the 700 in.Well you're in luck!! I DuraCoated a Rock Island 1911 in that exact color for/with Kenny not that long ago. It turned out real nice. I actually didn't like that color at first, untill we assembled the 1911. Then I fell in love with it. It's called Coyote Brown. I believe he might still have pictures of it on his computer. Kenny, you still got those pics? If so, can you please post a couple of them?

Kenny Posted February 25, 2010 at 04:53 PM Author Posted February 25, 2010 at 04:53 PM This one is going to be neat!! I am doing it for a fundraiser for a fire dept. the stock & parts on the right will be fire engine red and the bbl & parts on the left will be bright white. I polished the bolt to a mirror finish. Then the stock will have stickers applied to both sides that say Fire & Rescue like on the fire trucks. This is the 10/22 all disassembled & sand blasted waiting for the paint to arrive.http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/polhms1/Guns/Duracoat%20guns/DSCN0487.jpg
Mr. Runyon Posted February 25, 2010 at 08:10 PM Posted February 25, 2010 at 08:10 PM I really liked that 1911. I think I would like my frame and receiver to to be coyote brown and everything else to be black.
rdhanded2 Posted February 25, 2010 at 09:50 PM Posted February 25, 2010 at 09:50 PM I have never seen this in person. How durable/scuff resistant is it for say an everyday carry piece?
Grimes Posted February 25, 2010 at 11:35 PM Posted February 25, 2010 at 11:35 PM I really liked that 1911. I think I would like my frame and receiver to to be coyote brown and everything else to be black.Well if you like, I can PM you my phone number so you can call and get a price on what it would cost to have it done for you. I have a couple guns that I've done laying around right now, so you could come check them out to see what this stuff is like and how tough it really is!! I have never seen this in person. How durable/scuff resistant is it for say an everyday carry piece?Duracoat is VERY durable and scuff/chemical resistant!! I painted a piece and let it cure for a week, then put it in the sandblaster just to see how tough it really was. I have honestly never had to work so hard sandblasting to get a finish off a piece, as I did with this stuff. It also depends on how thick you put the Duracoat on. The thicker it is, the stronger it is. Again, I have a couple guns here that you could check out if you would like to see how this stuff is. I also took a piece that was painted and did some drop testing and hammer testing with it. I had to mutilate the part just to get it to chip. Matt
Kenny Posted February 26, 2010 at 08:09 PM Author Posted February 26, 2010 at 08:09 PM The fire Dept. gun all painted & waiting to go back together. Now to remember how it all came apart!!! http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/polhms1/Guns/Duracoat%20guns/DSCN0491.jpg
Kenny Posted February 26, 2010 at 09:26 PM Author Posted February 26, 2010 at 09:26 PM I just need to let it cure for a bit & put the fire department stickers on it. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/polhms1/Guns/Duracoat%20guns/DSCN0495.jpghttp://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/polhms1/Guns/Duracoat%20guns/DSCN0494.jpghttp://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/polhms1/Guns/Duracoat%20guns/DSCN0493.jpghttp://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/polhms1/Guns/Duracoat%20guns/DSCN0492.jpg
Grimes Posted February 26, 2010 at 09:41 PM Posted February 26, 2010 at 09:41 PM Let me know what he says about it and if he likes it or if he wants anything about it changed. I'm def. happy with how it turned out. We do good work, my friend!!
BobS Posted February 26, 2010 at 11:42 PM Posted February 26, 2010 at 11:42 PM Looks good ^^ but let us in on the secret! You have obviously discovered how to squeeze more than 24 hours out of a day (with all your projects)???
Kenny Posted February 27, 2010 at 12:19 AM Author Posted February 27, 2010 at 12:19 AM Looks good ^^ but let us in on the secret! You have obviously discovered how to squeeze more than 24 hours out of a day (with all your projects)??? It is called being layed off. Paint it in the AM & crank the heat up & reassemble in the afternoon. Technically it should sit over night to cure a bit but I had the guy buying it coming tonight & he wanted to see it. The duracoat dries almost instantly but it takes like 30 days to fully cure.
Mr. Runyon Posted February 27, 2010 at 08:40 AM Posted February 27, 2010 at 08:40 AM I live way down here in southern Ill. Rockford is a long way from home. I don't feel like sending my gun through the mail either. I might try to find someone down here to duracoat my gun for me.
BobbyT Posted February 27, 2010 at 11:59 AM Posted February 27, 2010 at 11:59 AM Have you thought of doing Bears/Bulls/Cubs/Sox/U of I/etc themed color combos? Not my thing, but I was just thinking that might be something people are interested in.Plus it would have to drive the antis nuts to see rifles and pistols as the next accessory for sports nuts.
GarandFan Posted February 27, 2010 at 12:21 PM Posted February 27, 2010 at 12:21 PM I generally like my guns black ... but heck if it pisses off this guy, what can be so bad about it!? http://www.doobybrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/which-gun-is-real.jpg http://gothamist.com/attachments/jen/2008_03_bloomberggun2.jpg
Grimes Posted February 28, 2010 at 04:29 AM Posted February 28, 2010 at 04:29 AM I've done the slide to a Glock in that green. It's called Queens Green. I've also done another Glock slide in O'Sherbert, which is a BRIGHT orange. Both for the same guy. They both def. were different!!! Not really my taste, but kinda neat, none the less.
eric2281 Posted March 12, 2010 at 06:48 PM Posted March 12, 2010 at 06:48 PM How much to refinish a Glock 17 slide? I stripped mine bare but still have the rear sight on it. It looks kinda neat bare but I'm thinking either black or olive drab.
