Don't look like we will have enough workers for a formal sit down meeting.  So let's see if we can do this online using this thread as a virtual meeting.  I will talk to Todd and see what dates are good if we want to get a couple of pro RTC/2A legislators to speak and based on that I will pick a week to hold the town hall.  This will give some flexibly when looking for a hall to hold the meeting.

CCR74 if you can talk to the sheriff and find out if he can speak that would be great.

I have asked Molly to speak on behalf of IC and asked her if she has a contact at ISRA we can get to speak.

NEEDED:

1.  Need to find a hall to host the actual town hall meeting.  We need someone to volunteer to find us a hall.  Possibly a high school auditorium or even a hall at ECC would be great if we can get it for free.

2.  Need someone with "graphic" skills to design a poster and flier.  This person will need to obtain permission from Illinois Carry and the ISRA to use their names and possibly their logos on the posters and fliers.

3.  Need someone to obtain some funding to cover the cost of printing posters (color) and fliers (black & white) and possibly to pay the cost of a meeting hall if we can't get one for free.

If you can take ownership of one of these tasks please PM me.  I am willing to chair this effort but don't have the time to do it all myself.

Thanks,
Jim

IllinoisCarry has the flier/poster design we can use from
the DuPage Co. town hall.

I will donate some $.  Just let me know.  Every one should even if it pays for one poster.  (I'm not rich)

It looks like the week of April 5th - 9th may be our best chance at getting some of the folks from Springfield to attend our town hall meeting.  If we assume this is our window does anyone have any connections that might get us a meeting hall for an evening for free?  A high school auditorium or college lecture hall would work.  I am open to any suggestions.  Send me a PM if you think you can get us place to have the meeting.

Thanks,
Jim

That looks like a good week - I am not familiar with the area but I bet we can find someone who is!

Hey Guys I am new to this site and i see you are trying to put together a meeting like McHenry did. I have lived in kane county almost my whole life i will see what i can do to help find a location to host it. The Kane County fair grounds hold sportsmans shows every month and they have large rooms that could easily fit 500+ people. If their is anything else i can help with let me know an I will do my best to get what we need.

Great - we're looking for something just about that size.

Can you get us one of those rooms on an evening during the week of April 5th - 9th?  If so, that would be as Tony the Tiger says...  Grrrrrrrrrrreat!

Thanks!!!

You should first try to get a large hall for free. Here's how you do that:

When I organized the Ogle county Town Hall Meeting to discuss the concealed carry voter referendum, I called the City Hall of Oregon, Il. which is the county seat, and told them what I wanted to do. The reason is, you can often get a city or county owned building for free if you are planning a civic function - which is what a town hall meeting is. I was told to arrive at Oregon City Hall before the close of business hours and pick up the key to a public building which had plenty of room and chairs to boot -at NO CHARGE!

Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

We should try to get a free hall first.  If we can't then we will have to look at getting sponsors to pay for a hall.  I rather not go the sponsor way if possible because sponsors often have an agenda of their own and I rather keep this meeting centered on our agenda.

Pheasant Run Resort in St.Charles would be able to host our event at a discounted price of 350.00 they will set up all seating 400 main floor and another 100 in balcony I have personal access to a sound system so their is no need to rent one of those. We would have the room from 6:00-9:00pm. As far as the cost i could donate 150.00 towards the event and i am sure we can get a few others to throw in some money. If This sounds like something you all would like to use let me know.

I am also still waiting for calls from a few other places to see if they will give it to us for free.

It can't get any easier. Call the City Hall where you want to hold the event, and tell them you're holding a public informational meeting during the week of April 5th - 9th, and you'ld like to get the hall for free.

You might want to try contacting the Kane County offices in Batavia / Geneva.  They may have a meeting room that can be used for public events for no charge.

Absolutely! The key is to communicate you are performing a public service and this is a not for profit function. You are holding this meeting for the benefit of the public and nothing more.

Securing a building on the fairgrounds could also be possible if such events have been approved by the fair board.

The fairgrounds would be the best place, I have known the operator of the fairgrounds for a while I just have not talked to him in a long time. I am just wait for him to get back to me. Most of the city's here use private establishment for their large meeting and unless i am tied to the local government their is a fee. I am not giving up yet though we should be able to have a venue set up by tomorrow night. As far as speakers do we have any that would be willing to come?

I am working on the speakers.  I have a few potential speakers lined up.  Its hard to ask them to commit until we lock down the date and place.  Once we do that I will get back on the speakers.  Chris (CCR74) are you still going to talk to Sheriff Perez?

Looks like Kane County is going to have a RTC town hall meeting!

Thanks everyone for jumping in on this!

Ok I have called most of the local municipality s and none of them have a place large enough or for free. I think at this point Pheasant Run Resort will be our best bet. It is a well known place with lots of parking and easy access and the cost is minimal plus i have already talked to a few friends of mine who would chip in to cover the cost. Being that it will only cost 350 dollars its a deal that cant be beat most other places want 600-1000 for the couple hours. We will have the New Orleans Ballroom from 6-9pm they will set up 400 chairs on the main floor and 150 in the balcony. I am going to see if they will throw in coffee too. The date will be April 8th. If their are any objections to this let me know i would like to finalize the reservations around midday today.

Sheriff Perez has agreed to speak.
Mike Weisman has agreed to speak.
Molly B. will speak if she can attend.
Todd has agreed to speak.
We are attempting to get Tim Schmitz to speak.

We have room for one more speaker (6 speakers @ 10 minutes each).  Anyone want to suggest a strong pro 2A council member or legislator from Kane County that we should reach out to?
