abolt243 Posted March 7, 2009 at 11:55 AM Posted March 7, 2009 at 11:55 AM ACTION NEEDED!!!START CALLS/FAXES ON MONDAY THE 9TH!! The LTC bill SB1976, sponsored by Senators Jones and Rutherford, is scheduled to be heard in the Senate Public Health committee on Tues, March 10 at 1:00 PM. This is the Senate bill that mirrors HB462. The Public Health committee is a very hostile committee for this bill, and it is not expected to pass. In spite of that, we would like to innundate every one of those committee members with phone calls and faxes beginning on Monday, the 9th and continuing to Noon on Tuesday the 10th. We must show these committee members that we are serious about LTC, we are aware of the bills as they pass through the legislature and that we will support them, regardless of their perceived chances. Please call both their Springfield and district offices. If there is a fax number available, fax a short note in support of SB1976. Make your calls and faxes cordial, concise, and to the point. The people that answer the phone are just doing their job, and may or may not have an opinion on the bill, so don't go into detail about your support unless asked. You may be asked to supply your name, address and a phone number if you'd like a call back. For those of you new to this process (I was scared to death the first time I called!) this might serve as an example for you: "Hello, I'm Tim Bowyer of Shelbyville, IL. I'm calling this morning to ask Senator Delgado to support Senate Bill 1976 when it comes before the Public Health Committee. " Yes, call them all, even though you're not in their district. Phone calls do count, regardless of where they come from. The members of the committee are listed below with their office numbers and fax numbers when availabe. Fire up those phones!!! sctman800 Posted March 9, 2009 at 03:02 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 03:02 PM Thanks abolt, I have called everyone. The phone number for Senator Noland should be 217-782-7746 at the Springfield office. Jim.
PPK Posted March 9, 2009 at 03:37 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 03:37 PM Phone calls made to both offices of each Senator. Sounds like we're doing a number on lighting up their lines. They said they're getting a lot of calls on this bill. Senators Syverson and Cronin are firmly on our side and it seems like there was one other. Lauzen maybe? I should have taken notes during the calls. The ones that didn't know the Senator's position I figure are against the bill and don't want to say so. Hope I'm wrong on that.
Ol'Coach Posted March 9, 2009 at 03:54 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 03:54 PM Have to add, too bad the bill isn't numbered 200 lower! Calls made.

Jim. Repeat! The gentleman who answered the phone asked that I PLEASE get the word out that the correct number is ...7746. I said, "You must be getting swamped?" His reply: "You have no idea!"
Pecker Posted March 9, 2009 at 04:18 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 04:18 PM I called all Senators. Got lots of voicemail boxes. The few Senators I did talk to did indicate that their phones were ringing off the hook on this issue. Keep it up! I got responses from a few folks that said their Senator supported the bill Steans - receptionist indicated she thinks the Senator supportsSyverson - definite YES!Lauzen - Definitely Supports Not sure about Pankau, as soon as I said the "6" in 1976 the receptionist said, "thank you." and hung up.

Drylok Posted March 9, 2009 at 04:24 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 04:24 PM I guess everyone in Springfield goes to lunch at 11:00. I hate leaving messages, so I'll try back after lunch....

Pecker Posted March 9, 2009 at 04:31 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 04:31 PM I recently saw a Grading of Illinois Reps from the Illinois State Rifle association but now I can't find it. Anyone have the link to that page? I'd like to see how these stack up in terms of past performance. John

Pankau: as soon as I said, "SB1976" he interrupted and asked, "yes or no vote". Sounds to me like the Senator might just go with the flow. Also...Sen Cronin's sec stated she wasn't sure of his postion, but knows he has had a lot of conversation with Todd Vandermyde.

Here's my analysis Delgado previously voted in favor of a "High Capacity Magazine Ban" in 2007. I wouldn't count on him for support. http://votesmart.org/issue_keyvote_detail....mp;can_id=18359 Hunter, Garrett, and Schoenburg get bad grades in the past. Noland was against Concealed Carry in a 2004 survey. Or at least didn't support it at the time. http://votesmart.org/npat.php?can_id=33577#826 After reading Steans biography, I don't really see a Yes Vote there. At least on the face of it. http://votesmart.org/bio.php?can_id=101672 This would seem to indicate that likely we're facing a 6-4 defeat if Pankau votes Yes. But don't be discouraged. Nothing freaks out a legislator like their phones ringing off the hook. Keep sending the word around, ask your spouse to call. In fact a few feminine voices on the other end of the line might be very effective as well. john
cherryriver Posted March 9, 2009 at 06:53 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 06:53 PM Susan Garrett is our senator here in the 29th District. She is about as anti-gun as possible. Not in the way of the Daleys, but in a North Shore, intellectual way. I think it's fair to say she doesn't even consider the 2nd Amendment to exist, not in any literal way. It's more of an old mistake that never got cleared up, to that way of thinking. What's different now is that Garrett, like several other legislators, no longer trumpets anti-gun efforts. I'm not going to bother to look it up, but I think Garrett's had her name on a number of anti-gun bills in the past, such as the .50 cal ban, but those references are pretty much gone from her website, e-mails, and postal mailings. When they do appear, it's with the code words like "child safety", and the old rhetoric about getting guns out of American homes is harder to find. The 29th is to the immediate north of Chicago and a repeal of the 2nd would be fairly easy to pass here. The fact that the anti-gun noise has been suppressed is a modest hopeful sign, and should be encouraging to such get-calling campaigns like this.Last year at IGOLD, I should add, Garrett had a morning committee meeting mysteriously last well into late afternoon, much longer than staff had said it would. Then, staff bugged out.Footsteps. Just to add: Senator Susan Garrett is very e-mail connected and actually reads hers. Here's her address: ilsenate29@sbcglobal.net
PPK Posted March 9, 2009 at 07:19 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 07:19 PM email sent: Dear Senator Garrett, I'm writing you to ask your support for SB1976, the License to Carry bill. 48 states already have some sort of concealed carry available for law-abiding citizens and none of the Wild-West scenarios have come to pass. In fact it's just the oposite. Permit holders are routinely among those who have the profound respect for the law. Please help Illinois citizens join the rest of the country by supporting this important piece of legislation. We just want the right to protect ourselves from those who have no respect for the law. Thank you for your time, Kenneth Hill Johnston City, IL
Colonel Posted March 9, 2009 at 07:48 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 07:48 PM Done!!! Callin's easy as long as the dentist leaves me be...I'd rather do a nice visit to the offices, you know, like the windmill scene in Frankenstein!!! Ah, torches, lovely torches... Colonel.....
Pecker Posted March 9, 2009 at 08:25 PM Posted March 9, 2009 at 08:25 PM Maybe some of the calls did help to shore up the base. Sen Chris Lauzen from my district 25 signed up as a Chief Co-Sponsor of the bill this afternoon. http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus...amp;LegID=44880

Sen Chris Lauzen from my district 25 signed up as a Chief Co-Sponsor of the bill this afternoon. http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus...amp;LegID=44880OK, I'm new at this. Can any Senator sign up as a co-sponsor at this time or only those in the Public Health Committee? The reason I ask is that Senator Gary Forby promised to support LTC when introduced. I'm pretty sure he'd vote for it but I'd like to see more names as co-sponsor. May have to talk to him about that Wednesday.
