Although I dislike the wording and feel it wasn't well thought-out, IF it were on the ballot in Champaign County, I would vote for it.

They decided to wait until thy had the full sub-committee is there to vote on it, Which could be indefinitely because Bob Hastings has only made it to a few meetings anyways. John Sweeny wanted to vote against it because it is not a real CC resolution. I think it was just a way to extend it out. I am thinking if we can get a pretty good percentage of people to vote for the referendum on the ballot we may be able to get a case against the state going & we will have the county board & hopefully the SA on our side. I have a feeling if Joe Bruscatto can beat Chuck Prorock we have a lot better chance of advancing this issue further. That is my personal feeling & I have had many conversations with both candidates.

They are going to wait until after election day to see what happens with the referendum to either throw it away or reword it to take on state law.

I sure hope this referendum passes. Here are a few of my thoughts .......

It was my understanding that this was the original intention (to word it in a way that the Sheriff could grant a LTC from his orignal powers)  No it is not a true CC law, but it is certainly a loophole to "super cede" state gun laws. I remember in a sub committee meeting a long time ago, Randy Olsen said he was granted this very power with a previous Sheriff. So, as I see it this is as good as it's going to get if we can't "super cede" state gun laws with a "real" RTC law.

#2 If I were on the sub committee, I would without question get Sheriff Meyers involved as far as he would like. He is a very intelligent man with a long, long history in law enforcement. The last I knew is that he was very disappointed in the current resolution.

I wonder what HE would change and how would he word it? Also, let's elect a pro 2A States Attorney this year.

The problem with the piece as worded is not only that it's not a true CCW law.  The problem is also that this power of the Sheriff to deputize citizens already exists in the law in this form.  That's what John is objecting to--he sees no point in voting to pass a county ordinance that's only going to repeat the law already on the books.

I guess Randy Olson stripped the resolution down, it is back to a real CC resolution, not the auxiliary deputy crap, & will be bringing it in front of the county board a week from today Thursday Oct. 23rd for a vote. He said it is more of a way to put it into record where the county board stands on concealed carry. He said that also it will be on the books so if the next sheriff wants to implement it he can. Randy said he knows the current sheriff will do nothing with it, but the county board that is in place now will pass it & they don't know about the future board members. I don't know what the heck is going on anymore if you think you can figure it out call Randy 815-262-1662 Then explain it all to me. I think I kinda understand it but not for sure. I will try to get a copy of the new resolution posted up.

I will be going to the full board meeting on Thursday I would like a few people to come out but we do not need the droves I thought we would it is a watered down version but it still sends a statement to the state I would love to have enough people to send a message but I understand people have other things to do. I told Big Chris to go to the Ogle county meeting & skip this one if he had a choice.

I just didn't know the details.

I'm so disappointed. I know we've all moved on but I take consolation in the fact that never before has a License to Carry issue gone so far in Illinois!

This just means we find the next willing county and try again!!!

Well guys I didn't know of this site when the vote was going on. We did vote for it and many others I know did.  The problem was not the CCW but this election had many out who had never voted before.  66% of Rockford voted for Obama, but if you look on a map of where they votes came from, well it was from the crime ridden areas.  Not because they were against it, but two reasons.  One they didn't understand the way it was worded, many No's thought it would allow anyone to carry and they already have to many gangs members carrying.  The other, and larger reason, is the area's near downtown, near west, southwest and south east support Obama, since he was the first black canidate.  Voting for if for that, if no other reason.  Don't take me as racist, I am not, just the fact.  The same proposal without Obama running I believe would have passed with probably a 70/30 margin.

Keep fighting, and we will get it, also right your congressmen on that H.R.-45 bill, erosion of the 2nd ammendbment is not acceptable. My thoughts..

  hey Kenny well when I was to your place last week and had you recieve or receiving that ar15 lower you told me about it. Nice thing you all have going here.  I think there are a lot more here in Rockford that would be here if they knew of this.  Thanks for letting me know... hopefully that receiver will be come in soon, thanks, dave

Welcome Dave! Just so ya know most of us here have decided to use LTC in place of CCW as most of the un-educated have a negative connotation to the word conceal itself. Conceal=hide / hide=bad...

Thanks for the heads up on LTC, well I get my apps for LTC for Florida have to get that done as the wife and I are both vets.  Perhaps, if we ever get LTC here maybe a easier time here, though nothing in Illinois supprises me.
