The next one is Tuesday 9-9-08 at 5:30 in room 303 at the county administration building at 404 Elm St. in Rockford.

I started this thread so I can edit the post with upcoming dates & stuff I had put the date in the topic before & I can't edit that.

There is a meeting Tuesday 9/9/08. They have canceled the last 2 for some other things going on. This should be a good one finalizing the resolution. Maybe they can get it in order & get this over with before hunting season starts.

I wanted to let everyone know that I will be attending the Northern Illinois Rifle and Pistol Club meeting tonight at the Verdi Club in Rockford on behalf of CCW. I will be speaking to the membership and will also make it a point to www.illinoiscarry.com and hopefully pick up a few new members. The meeting starts at 7:00pm. I am not sure how many will be in attendance but I will have raffle tickets with me just in case there is any interest. Wish me luck!!!!

I am not sure what their policy is on guests. Are you a member? If not, maybe you can call the president and ask if non-members can attend.

Great!  Will you be going?  Could you (or someone) get a copy of it asap to post/link so that I (we) can print it out to give to our county board members for review.  Or, if not, do you know who else I could ask? (I realize that it may take some time, if at all possible)  I would like to get Vermilion County into this as well.  Apparently, our Sheriff is behind the idea.
Yes? No? Suggestions? Anything. Please.

Well, no finalized resolution after tonight.

We're hoping for a finalized one after the next committee meeting at which they have formally invited Sheriff Meyers and the States Attorney.

The states attorney did previously send the board a letter that supposedly included their reasons as to why they can't issue. The only problem with that was that they formed their opinion on that they were going to issue permits as a separate thing, when the board wants to issue permits as an extension of the auxiliary police force with more restrictions.

Hopefully the States Attorney and Sheriff Meyers will show at the next meeting, the Current States Attorney has already ignored a previous request to show.

I wish I would have been placed on that committee. I thought for sure the changes were forthcoming. Sorry about that..

Anyone that wants to come to the meeting on the 23rd is strongly urged to do so it would be nice for the SA to see a crowd if he shows up. This will hopefully be the last subcommittee meeting. If you can make it please do.

I received the official copy of the ballot for the November 4th election. The wording for CCW is not what I expected. Here how it reads:

Question Of Enacting
Concealed Carry
Shall the General Assembly enact
legislation to permit the carrying of
concealed firearms?

What are your thoughts? This ballot is NOT official for they are asking candidates to proof read it for errors. I am under the assumption that things can be changed if needed. I will pass on any suggestions you may have.

That's more than should be needed BUT it will minimize the hysterical bleating for the other side.

Can you read it now?

"Vote yes and every gang-banger and mentally defective criminal will be running around with hidden murder weapons!!!!!"
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. -George Orwell

Fred I gave Tom a copy of what the question should read. I made it clear to him it is set up to fail & he said they couldn't change it but he was going to see if there was any way possible he could get the question modified. I hope he can get it done. You should get ahold of him & make sure he gets it done. Maybe you could help him in getting the modifications taken care of.

Without being a member of the sub committee, I may not have much influence on him but if you send me your suggestion, I will give it to the chairman for his input. Nothing is set in stone until the change deadline I believe. You all know I will do what I can!!!!!

It should read.
Shall the General Assembly enact
legislation to permit the carrying of
concealed firearms by law abiding citizens?
That would go over a lot better.

This is what I gave to Tom.

“Shall the General Assembly enact legislation to license citizens to carry firearms for self defense and other lawful purposes?” (such as 48 other states have already done?')

I said if they can get the whole thing great if not at least the first part.

Kenny, I think that your version of the questions is probably the best way it could be worded.

Turns out the Chairman is out of town on business but I have talked to other board members and they agree, we need to change this or do one hell of a job explaining it over the next 50 days. I was told my concerns were forwarded to the chairman via email and he will get in touch with his office tomorrow since he is in Sweden. Phone calls need to be made to all the board members to get this done. I will try and find email address' for the board members and post them.

Something like this might help to spread the word around town.
