I need to sell a FS 2000 and there are alot of people on this site that would love to own one so: What if we did a raffle $25 per ticket and say 250-500 tickets the money would pay for the gun then the rest of it could go to Illinoiscarry.com to support the site and mabye even make some yard signs or somthing. I'm sure Blaster could find something to use the money for after he covers the costs of running the site. I am looking for input it is not a done deal we have to look into the legality of it & make sure we can do it but how many people would buy tickets for $25 to win a $2500 gun I know I could sell 50 tickets in a week no problem probably closer to 100. Just looking for some input, Good idea , bad idea, stupid idea, I don't know what do yall think.

Sounds good to me, maybe throw a little more low dollar prizes in there to make it feel like you have more of a chance at winning something.

Like second prize a Glock 27 and third prize a Kel-Tec PF-9 somthing like that? do you think we could sell 250-500 tickets?

That's actually a really good idea, Kenny. I'd definitely try to hop in for one or two.

Why is it that every time you post, it winds up costing me money? lol

Well it is looking like we can't do it anyways because raffles are only for non-profit orginizations and since Illinoiscarry is not a 501c-3 I don't think we can do it. Mabye if we sold Illinois carry car stickers & entered people into a drawing that might work. Is anyone familiar with this sort of thing?

The money must go to a chairity or something.

Talk to Templar or someone in the hierarchy at Champaign County Rifle Association (aka Guns Save Lives .com) They finally managed to get a permit to hold genuine raffles, maybe they could work something out that would be of interest to all parties involved. I don't believe that those who provide the rifles they've raffled off go uncompensated.

polhms1...you might want to run this past Blaster as this is his site and he needs to ok something like this before anyone offers it up...

Been there done that, I am just trying to see if it would work before we jump in feet first.

My wife owns a bar and no they are not supposed to do raffles. If they are they are in violation of either state or local liquor laws. Just like those video poker games that some bars pay out on are illegal as well. What my wife does have is what I call a frequent flyer card. Buy 10 drinks get a hole punched for each of the 10 drinks and the card is entered into a drawing every week for a $50 credit at the bar. If person who's name is drawn on Tuesday does not come in to claim it by midnight then amount rolls over. Last time it rolled to 200 and some local girl home from college won it. She's been drinking at my wife's bar all summer now and slowly using it up.

What about instead of a raffle, a punch card for KAP Guns where you buy 10 guns and you get one free?

Kenny,

I assume you hold a IL tax number, a FEN, and have a business so you can do this a few ways. If the guns are still listed as inventory, you can do a raffle, recover the initial expense, collect Gov Rod's sales tax which can be paid out of the raffle profits and then donate the rest to the site and call it a advertising expense then write it off next year on your busuness taxes. If the guns are private inventory do the same but you will not need to share with the Gov on this one. Send the money to the site as advertisement fees and write off the money on your personal taxes as a personal expense for the business that can not be recovered through profits from the business.

If you don't like the accounting stuff just make them personal guns, do the raffle, recover your cost and donate what is left over. No questions asked.

I own my own Corp. and have learned that the goverment writes the laws for small business owners and it is up to you figure out how they work. My acountant is fairly cautious and I have never had a problem with stuff like this. In fact I spoke with him last week about an idea and he liked it because he is Pro 2A also. I am considering making up a order of bumber stickers for the site and in very fine print putting my company name in a lower corner, donating them to blaster and let him sell them for what ever or hand them out out events. As long as my company name is on the sticker no matter how small I can write it off as advertisement fees.

Hope this helped.
