They are having meetings every Tuesday at 5:30 in room 303 of the Winnebago county administration building. The meetings have been getting more interesting lately too. They want to get this done, to the full board & passed before labor day. We can use as much support as we can get. There are a few guys on this board that have made it to quite a few meetings and have come from a long way to make it. If you know anyone in this area please send them down to a meeting. The meetings are going to be weekly and I can't expect Big Chris & Slappy to drive from Naperville & Palatine or CBeran to drive from Dixon on a weekly basis. We need more support around the Rockford area. I have been doing my best to round up people to the cause but I need help. We had 19 people at the last meeting and that was acceptable but I would love to shoot for 30-40 at every meeting, we are in a bigger room now so we need more people to fill the room. I know a lot of people here don't care for Shaun (SAK) much but he has been at every meeting just like me, except he has managed to bring different people with him to every meeting. We are losing steam with the local media & the only way to fire them up again is to have a lot of people at the meetings. There were no cameras at the last meeting again & I will be calling the TV stations today to tell them they missed it. I will be telling them there were 40 people there. They will be at the next one I will make sure of it. PLEASE come to A meeting if you live 2 hours away & can make it to one meeting please try just for the numbers.

My LTE was in just over 30 days ago, I think I can formulate another missive.

Should I try for a "Guest Article" sized piece? Now I wish I were as erudite as GarandFan.....

I'll be thinking of exactly what I would like to say, and how best to say it tonight at work. The machine has an autoloader, so I have some free time.

I've got to say, last night was the first meeting that I attended. It felt great to take part in this process instead of sitting on the sidelines and letting things happen as they may.  I drove two hours to get there and i hope to attend at least a couple more meetings.
The work that Kenny and the other guys (Shaun included!) are doing to promote this cause reaches much farther than the Winnebago county lines.  It would behoove anyone within driving distance, that wants to see his/her rights returned to what they should be, to get there.

Didn't know where to put this but wanted to share with everyone.

A Gun in the House

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory
in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and
skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the
brain. All else is supplemental.

As John Steinbeck once said:

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man.  If he is too old to fight,
he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers.
The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was
carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger
responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous
regularity.

7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady
commented on his wearing his sidearm.  'Sheriff, I see you have
your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were
expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'

8. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY

KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

But wait, there's more!

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house.
I said I did.
She said 'Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!'
To which I said,  of course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!'
She then asked, 'Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into
your house?'
My reply was, 'No not at all.  I am not afraid of the house catching
fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all
loaded too.'
To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't loaded
is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

I'm a firm believer of the 2nd Amendment! If you are too, please  forward.

I have a work committee of my own that meets on Tuesdays evenings.  I was able to make this week's meeting since we canceled our meeting (only two could have made it).  I knew something didn't feel right Tuesday; I kept thinking I was missing something.  I think my commitment ends in August though.

There were a few news crews there tonight I did another interview.  I need the practice in front of the camera I suppose. There will NOT be a meeting next week they are skipping next Tuesday. They are having trouble getting the exact numbers from the state police, How many gun crimes were commited last year by valid FOID card holders. John Sweeny said it's a dead end with the ISP. The next meeting will be August 4th at 5:30 at the same place I hope to see more people there at the next one.

Is there an anticipated date for the Full Board vote? The Macon County SA and Rep Flider have asked for updates.
I gave an oath when I enlisted in the United States Navy,

"...to defend the Constitution of the United States of America, against all enemies, foreign and domestic..."

Though I may no longer be enlisted, and no longer have an obligation to the U.S. Navy, I still have a moral obligation to my country, my freedom, and the protection of my family.

I will stand by that oath for as long as I live.

Not that I know of yet, we will need bodies for the next meeting on August 5th as the board members are inviting the board member who opposes this the most to bring her data with saying this is a bad thing.

I will update the people here in Macon County of the August 5 meeting. Maybe see about getting representative from multiple State's Attorney's offices to attend and ask questions/add opinions. What's the time and location of this meeting?

I will also informed them that you guys are hoping to vote by Labor Day, which would allow me to put in additional time on ours down here in Macon County...time to go look over the Boone County thread! :lips sealed:

I'm pretty sure that the FBI doesn't track anything with FOID cards.

Well then until they provide the numbers (if there are any), it sounds like the appropriate claim is that the ISP are unable to come up with any FOID card holders who've committed gun crimes.

Someone here {maybe Coach or GF} contacted the ISP to get this info and was told that they do not track crimes by FOID holders.   No such DB exists according to them.   The FBI wouldn't because the FOID is unique til IL.

A good source of useful info is FL where the do track crimes by RTC permit holders. The numbers are small, far less than none RTC permit holders.  But then, we all knew that here, didn't we?

There were a few news crews there tonight I did another interview.  I need the practice in front of the camera I suppose. There will NOT be a meeting next week they are skipping next Tuesday. They are having trouble getting the exact numbers from the state police, How many gun crimes were commited last year by valid FOID card holders. John Sweeny said it's a dead end with the ISP. The next meeting will be August 4th at 5:30 at the same place I hope to see more people there at the next one.

Can't the numbers be obtained from the FBI site?

I'm pretty sure that the FBI doesn't track anything with FOID cards.

No,but don't they track crime stats for Illinois too?

They do but the board members were looking for info on firearm crimes committed by FOID holders vs non-FOID holders.

I'm sure we all know how that would turn out and wanted to present it to the board.

But surprise surprise the ISP either doesn't track it or doesn't want to share it.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
