Hey all,

Just got back from the meeting... it was quick but a few things happened:

- The subcommittee is putting forth 2 things to the main board, though the full vote at the board meeting was not tonight:

1. the Resolution for November so citizens in Winnebago can vote along with other counties to say they want CCW in Illinois

and

2. the Resolution to enact CCW itself within Winnebago county.

The entire subcommittee was not there. Most noticeably Pearl Hawkes.

There were two tv stations there, WIFR and another one, possibly WTVO...

We filled all the seats in the small place and we had entire row wearing green CCW buttons and they filmed that on WIFR... we should see if we can find it online...

it was about 20 minutes but a good meeting and everyone is on board!

Those from here that attended (sorry if I miss someone): Yours truly, Pohlms1, SAK, Big Chris, Traken, Jbomb, Speedracer and Mrs. Speedracer, Fred (Board9), Hodgie and I think thats everyone... if not, let me know and I'll update...

I think WTVO was the other channel present...

Wish we coulda been there. Mrs. Buzzard worked over at her job and I'm still at the shop. Maybe if I would stay away from the 'puter, I'd get some work done. Speakin' of which.....
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes,
but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda,
they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."  — Jeff Cooper, The Art of the Rifle

I'm glad you guys and gals, if applicable, represented the whole group tonight. Thanks for being there! Just keep us updated with the next time we need to assemble the troops.  We'll be there when we can!

Not to take away from the movement here, but the Sheriff mentioned during the public hearing that there was a State effort for Conceal Carry Permits at the State level. Does anyone know what is the bill number or if we could start hammering (blacksmith lingo) our representatives to support it! God forbid, but with the Change of winds from SCOTUS (affirmation of the 2nd Ammendment) we actually get something realy going at the state level. I'd be all for pushing at the State Level.

I'm Old School and a Blacksmith by trade, WE STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT!!!!!!

What do you think about this approach? Am I out there, or dreaming?
Happy Hammering,

Last CCW bill I did anything with was HB1304, I think.

Sorry I missed it.  I ran into Hodgie (sp) and asked him where we should go, since he had a green button on.  He informed me that the meeting was over and he was just coming out!  I wasted a four-hour drive.

I did get to visit Darnall's in Bloomington (really cool place, train there if you get the chance) and they were very supportive of SAFR.  Also got some fireworks for the kids.  But it occurred to me as I stood there that if I'd just taken the day to go to Darnall's and shoot, I'd have been pulling back into my driveway after four hours rather than getting ready to get back into the car and do another four.  And I'd have gotten to go shooting.
Oh well.  Nice day for a drive, anyway.  I'm glad the place was still packed.

That sucks!!!! You should program my # in your phone, you could have called & at least came over & checked out my gun shop & had a few beers. The next meeting will be July 8th at 5:30 in the same place. Winnebago county administration building 5th floor.

If concealed carry is going to be on the ballot this November we are going to have to get the word out.
I was thinking yard signs, fliers, bumper stickers, Ted Nugent!, the NRA.

We are going to have to try extremely hard to get this voted in.

I was thinking something along the lines of "Support the right to self defense, vote yes for Concealed Carry" for the signs and the bumper stickers.
The fliers could have the same phrase at the top of the page and several statistics on reduced crime as a result of concealed carry in the 48 states that have it.

What do they mean by putting CC on the ballot? IMO, this may not be a good idea. Lot's of ignorant folks vote. Besides, if civil rights issues would have been put on the ballot in the 50's and 60's, the blacks would still not be voting. Most illannoyans have been brainwashed or conditioned into believing guns are bad.

"Though they plot evil against you and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed;  for you will make them turn their backs when you aim at them with drawn bow." -- Book of Psalms, Ch. 21 Vs. 11 & 12

"Find out just what the people will submit to and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."
— Frederick Douglass, civil rights activist, Aug. 4, 1857

Kenny, I do have your number and thought about calling, but honestly, by that time I was ready to go home.  It wasn't so bad, I had a very full day, but it was still about 11:00 when I finally rolled into my drive and that was late enough.

No big deal, really.

Back on topic:  A referendum is a BAD idea.  The Missouri referendum set them back a few years.  If we're arguing that this is a civil right, it would be better to lose with the board than to put it up to a popular vote.

EDIT--As I watch the WIFR report--it looks like the referendum question is only on a resolution asking that the General Assembly pass CCW statewide, with the issue of passing a CCW ordinance in Winnebago County being separate.  That sounds fine to me.

Your right to keep and bear arms was voted on about 200 years ago when the Second Amendment was ratified!!!

If you put anything CC related on the ballot, it is more than likely that it will get defeated.  Look at the numbers, only 10% of the Winne Co. population has FOIDs.  The antis will spread BS so thick that you'll be lucky to get 20% of the remaining 90 to vote your way.  That puts you down 70/30.  We seem like the majority here, but when the soccer moms go to vote, you'll find they vote against us!!

Don is right, a CC referendum set MO back several years when RTC got voted down over there. Keep it off the ballot, keep plugging away at your elected officials and use the power of the Constitution to reinforce your point.
