Well, Chris, Randy, Kody and I all headed back down south to Ogle & Lee County. It was an honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with our Brothers and Sisters tonight in support of Concealed Carry.

With the exceptions of some war buddies of mine and a few moments we have survived, I have never been more proud as an American than I was tonight. It was truley an eye opening thing to be a part of. Now that this ball is rolling, I know our Southern Support group will back you guys all the way.

Once this passes, we need to make sure the Permit Requirements are Justified, Reasonable, Sensable and Affordable for all. Personnaly, I think a FOID Card, NCIS, Training in Leathal Force Authorization, Weapon Qualification should be enough, but that makes too much sense.

PS: What the heck was the Lady in Camo Shirt & Pants talking about? Was it just me or was she at the wrong meeting?

We just got home from Rascals, capping off a great and productive evening! Everyone did an outstanding job! HighHeeledGoddess...thank you for speaking and welcome to IllinoisCarry! It helped greatly to have the ladies speak in favor, I'm sure! I'm just really pumped!!! What a great night!!

I'd like to plug Mrs. Buzzard for helping pass out the buttons and promoting the cause. I felt everyone did a good enough job speaking that I didn't need to speak. Perhaps next time. I didn't have much time to prepare due to business committments.

I also want to thank everyone that attended and supports our cause!! Sheriff Meyers, thank you for speaking and supporting us. Once the resolution passes, I  hope everyone will REDOUBLE their support as that is when we will need it!!

We will have concealed carry in Illinois or our elected officials can join the unemployed!

It was nice meeting all of you again, I would say we had 98% of the people there.  On the news tonight they actually asked for some of the anti's to come forward.  They must not of had enough footage for their liking.    As for the woman in the camo pants and the peace sign on her face, I was at a total loss as to what she was talking about.  But she was wearing a button so I am assuming she was with us.  I was a little leary about Dorthy Redd, I asked her to sign the petition and she walked right passed me and just ignored me.(kinda rude, but whatever).  It's nice to know she's with us though.  The anti's that spoke had no facts to support anything they said.(imagine that huh)  

I think Don Gwen(Spelling) and his son recorded everything so I would expect that within the next couple of days.  Thanks for making the long trek Don.  See ya all in a couple of weeks.

Seriously, what a joke, of the two people that spoke against; the second guy didn't seem to be all there, I watched him and he almost seemed like a homeless person.

As for the first guy, Slappy and I talked to him out side and I think we turned him some if not just confused him more.

Strange that a person such as he who doesn't support Concealed Carry had an Israeli Flag on his hat.

What a joke, they found the only two people that were against it and put them in front of that camera, what about the other 35 that were for it, and they say that the media is non-bias. :Angry!:   I hope the media is reading this, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

State Representative Dave Winters was there tonight, and he says the county's measure sends a message to state lawmakers.


About 175 people packed the Memorial Hall to speak on the conceal-carry proposal.


Board members thought this forum was the best way to bring opinions to the ears of officials.


"It's from the people to the politicians. The politicians need feedback from everybody," says Fred Wescott of District 9.


Republicans on the board tell us all people in their caucus are in support of the measure, with at least three out of twelve democrats.


The vast majority of people who attended the meeting noted their support for the law on the sign-up sheet including this mother.


"When i come out at night, I work second shift. I get scared when I put her in her carseat," says Mitzie Moscinski.


But Tim Hughes was one of the very few people in the hall who opposes conceal carry.


"I was also a victim of a strong armed robbery. Had I carried a concealed weapon, i wouldnt have had time to react," Hughes says.


Sheriff Dick Meyers says he doesn't have the power to give out permits.


The proposal would have the sheriff deputize people to allow them to carry a gun.


Representative Dave Winters says Meyers may be correct...


"There's a preemption in state law that i think would not allow counties to do it by themselves," he says.


But he argues, what's important is the fact the county is trying to make a statement to Springfield.

If you weren't at this meeting tonight, you would think we faced stiff competition and the Sheriff wasn't behind us...

I was outside the Memorial Hall when Dave Winters walked out last night.  He was ask how he feels on the subject, he answered that he "has no opinion on the subject".  Hopefully he is just waiting to see what the will of the people is.  But I think we need to be careful of him.  The Sheriff Dick Meyers really impressed me.  I have always had reservations about him as sheriff but he has my vote now.

Dave Winters may have no opinion on the Winnebago county CC because He may be between a rock and a hard place if this comes to a head with the state. Dave is a HUGE supporter of CC he is a GREAT rep. and a great person. He has nothing whatsoever to do with this resolution but he still showed up last night as a supporter and to be our celebrity guest on our side. His personal views are Everyone should carry a gun everywhere as soon as you turn 16 and can drive you should carry a gun. An armed society is a polite society.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY - A potentially explosive topic in Winnebago County remains very calm. This is the first time residents could address Winnebago County Board members publicly about concealed carry.

About 30 people gave advice to a sub-committee specifically formed to explore the idea and check out any legal ramifications. Just under 200 people attended the event at Memorial Hall. Speakers had 3-minutes to make their point.

Some on the Winnebago County Board want to pass an ordinance allowing Sheriff Richard Meyers to issue permits. Since the verdict is still out if that is legally possible many other counties in Illinois are watching us very closely.

Lake County resident Ellen Herring says, "It's up to you guys you start the ball rolling and everybody else should follow. I would like to protect my family."

Like a large majority in this audience this Lake County resident wants Winnebago County to allow citizens to carry guns.  William Lee tells board members, "For those that say that concealed carry will only increase the murders, street shootings and turn this town into a wild west show I'm sure they will provide examples of where that has happened before."

Eric Connenberg owns Forest City Firearms. He testified about the high number of first time gun owners scared by Winneabgo County's high crime rate. Sonnenberg states, "People come into my shop all the time to buy a gun and it's not to go deer hunting. I'm talking women the elderly people who have never owned a firearm in their life."

While this concealed carry sub-committee has a lot to think about Sheriff Meyers came out with a firm stance on the issue. Meyers told the audience, "Whether you support it or not I think we are at a point in our life with the way society has changed is that we're at a point where I don't think we have a choice but to go with concealed carry."

Now it seemed that the bulk of the room supported concealed carry. Very few were on the other end of the issue but there were some undecided. Those against this might have another chance to speak. Once this sub-committee decides Winnebago County's Executive Committee begins debate. Eventually the issue ends up in front of the full Winnebago County Board.

The WIFR piece ended with a comment about if Winnebago county passes this it will open the state to 102 different standards for concealed carry! Duh! Welcome to gun control in Illinois. Do they not understand that is the way it is now. Any laws passed by counties for concealed carry would be infinitely better than what we have now. Until the state passes CC with full, complete and exclusive firearms law preemption that is the way it will be.

Great work, I am also really glad to see a county board (up north BTW) really excited about it as well.

This is a great thing we are seeing since the state government no longer represents the people we can still find a true voice for us through the county governments  


BTW I wouldnt be too upset about the media....the old media is dying, people are turning to alternative sources and the people who thirst for truth are turning away from the "mainstream" propaganda outlets......the ppl that still beleive the propaganda from the "mainstream" are just sheep anyway.

I posted this elsewhere, but it's appropriate in this thread, too.

You know what is ironic about all this, and particularly about the anticipated reaction from the state (and Chicago, which controls the state)?

The state of Illinois, and the city of Chicago, each filed amicus briefs with the US Supreme Court in the case "DC v. Heller."  The state filed at the certiorari/petition stage and the city filed at the merits stage.  Of course both the city and the state want DCs ban on handguns maintained.  Why?  They want local control over firearms regulations.  They underlying principle here, or philosophy, is that local people and their governments know what is best to solve local problems.  Which may be true.  Yet some things (fundamental rights, for example), are simply off limits.  This is why, for example, not only do the federal police need a warrant to search your home, so do the local police.

But the crux of the matter here is this - while both the state and the city argued for local control on the DC gun issue, rest assured that in regard to the Winn county movement, they will argue against local control.

Given that, I think this is going to be fun....

Yes, this is going to be fun...  I am not saying you Winnebago folks need to go out of your way to make the state's position look like one of fools....but I think you have the makings of some pretty serious arguments.

NOTE:  You folks in Winnebago that care about the CCW issue, and are preparing for the likely backlash, need to download or print those two briefs (one filed by the state, and the other by the city of Chicago) and become intimately familiar with the arguments therein.
