I just got back from the sub-committee meeting in Winnebago county. The next sub-committee meeting will be June 10th at 5:30 at memorial hall (211 N. Main St. Rockford, IL 61101) They are going to open up to discussion for a 1/2 hour after every meeting. (which will be every other Tuesday at 5:30 at Memorial hall) I need people to get to these meetings I will be at every one of them but if the anti's start showing up we need to out number them. All the news stations were there tonight again, and they will be at every meeting from here on out. The board thinks this is going to take a month or mabye 2 months. They don't want to rush it but want to move it along. I realize not everyone can make every meeting but I would hope for some people to come to at least a few. If you want to ride with me I am fine with that my house is pretty easy to get to from I-90. Jim Webster was assigned to gather national info on concealed carry (statistics and crime info) and John Sweeny was assigned to gather statewide info. I told Jim Webster about this site & told him his work was done after coming here for 15 minutes. If you are a good public speaker please come to one of these meetings. They have not set a date for an all out public forum but may not need it if we can get enough people to these sub-committee meetings. I handed out a few buttons to board members and they asked if they could have a couple more so I gave them more. They really liked the "48 states why not here" and "Lower crime rates vote yes for concealed carry" so I am going to make more of those two buttons. I will hand them out at all the sub-committee meetings. WIFR zoomed in on my button again tonight we will see if it makes it on the news. If anyone has any ??? post here or PM me or call me B-4 9:30 PM 815-703-1974

Oh yea I want to thank everyone who has sent me money for the button maker, It will be well worth the money spent, and when we get CC in Winnebago county we can pass them on to other counties because they are not county specific.

I am working on some TV ad space and Newspaper ad space I will keep you posted on that too.

I was told by three different board members we need to flood the Rockford Register Star with letters to the editor because there has been 1 pro CC letter and 2 anti CC letters printed. As you can see I am no creative writer but I would not hesitate to put my name on someone elses work, so if you are good at writing but would rather stay anonomous (see) feel free to send it to me My E-mail

We can win this one we already have enough votes on the county board but we want to hit a home run since this is the first county to do this.

I have talked to the NRA and ISRA and they are both willing to kick in some $$$$ for running some ads on TV and newspaper. I have someone at WIFR running the flash video from this website by the legal dept. I will know tomorrow if it is approved. If so I have to get prices and let ISRA & NRA know how much it will cost to see how much they will pick up Then I will hit up a few people I know to make up the rest hopefully.TV Commercial I will keep everyone updated.

I thought that video was lost forever when flash bunny went off into the cybervoid. I recall mentioning that it would be really neat if during the next election cycle, some faces of our favorite politicians were in the first text panel. Faces such as Daley, Acevedo, BLago, Chuck Jefferson, dad and daughter Madigan, etc, to really tie them to their anti-right position.

Now, given Obama's recent statement that no one should have a CCW, if his face were to be displayed prominently in the first text panel, that advertisement would be political dynamite!!!

If someone can get me a copy of the raw shockwave file, and images they want to use for the politicians, I can try to edit the movie to add the faces in the initial frame, or even create a new movie with a similar message.  It might take me some time as I haven't worked on shockwave or flash in a number of years, but it will come back to me I'm sure.

I'm sure someone on this forum could do it better and faster that I could, but it would be a fun project to tinker around with.
When my country, into which I had just set my foot, was set on fire about my ears, it was time to stir. It was time for every man to stir. - Thomas Paine

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world - "No, you move." - Captain America

Here are a couple interesting quotes, one from William Blackstone, Commentaries on the Laws of England (Bk 3 chapter 1) "Self defense therefore as it is justly called the primary law of nature, so it is not, neither can it be in fact taken away by the law of society."

The concept that free people have the God-given right to defend themselves is as old as civilization.  From Anglo-Saxon times, the ceremony of freeing a slave included placing a weapon in his hand "as a symbol of his new rank" (A.V.B. Norman, The Medieval Soldier 73 (Thomas Y. Crowell Co. 1971)

I don't have those books in may home library, got the quotes and references from a May/June Concealed Carry Magazine article.

When you read that second paragraph it makes you realize you live in a "slave state".   Hopefully Winnebago County will pass this resolution and move us to being free men and women.

The article mentions the Vermont Model and says for over 200 years, anyone in the state of Vermont has had, and still has, the right to carry a concealed firearm without any license or permission from the government.

How did Vermont manage to stay "free" for over 200 years?
Disarming the people (is) the best and most effectual way to enslave them. George Mason

Remember the 1991 Luby Cafeteria Massacre of the Unarmed (Kileen, Texas before Texas Concealed Carry) Do we need 23 people to die in a similar incident before we're allowed effective self defense?

Three school masacres have been stopped by civilians with firearms. Two with handguns and the third by a guy with a shotgun. (Pearl, Ms; Appalacian School of Law; Edinboro,Pa)

Looks like you have a 16-11 majority, already!

Great work, folks.

Just educate the rest as best you can.  But you don't need them to pass the Res.

Once passed, the ball will be in the state's court - whether they will sue, or whether they will not.

I talked to Jim Webster earlier and he said he talked to Pearl Hawks and she has been reading gun facts 4.2 He said he got the feeling she was starting to climb the fence on this issue. WOW!!! She is the woman they interviewed on all the news stations after the board meeting that was dead set against it.

Absolutely... we have to present to her that we just are normal caring people... if we, in any way shape or form, come like gun nuts or rednecks or anything negative, we will have lost her...

she is reading the facts and that the best thing we can ask of any logical person!!!

Dear Mr. Wescott:

Thank you for supporting this common-sense measure.  I have posted a comment in your guestbook.  We appreciate that you will make our voices heard at the board meetings.

Best regards.

My LTE........

Any comments, corrections, or suggestions are welcome.

It is very unfortunate that in the state of Illinois the media has poisoned the majority of residents with their antigun scare tactics and gloom and doom scenarios of “wild west road rage shootouts”.

Hey Rockford Register Star, remember your Editorial board opinion article from 8-1-2006?  “Want respect from the boss?  Make sure he knows your packin’ heat”! Shame on you, and your scare tactics!

I am a law abiding citizen and lifelong resident of this state, (43 years so far) I have owned firearms since I was old enough to purchase them legally (18) and I have never once killed, maimed, injured, robbed, or even as much as threatened another human being with a gun.
I will not bore you with statistics on how legalizing concealed carry for trained, law abiding, background checked heroes (yes, heroes like Jeanne Assam who with her legal CCW permit and firearm, stopped a mentally deranged killer at the Colorado Springs New Life Church from slaughtering anymore innocent church goers in December of 2007) will save lives and lower violent crime rates. Do your own research by reading “Gun Facts 4.2” with a simple search on the internet.

By listening to the biased media in this community (and state), one would be led to believe that everyone with a pistol strapped to their side is a criminal wishing to do harm to their fellow man.

To those poisoned naysayers, I pose to you the following question: When a law enforcement officer walks into the same room you are in, are you frightened because they are armed? I’ll bet the answer is NO, unless of course you are a criminal. That’s right folks, like the law enforcement community, we are the good guys with guns that, god forbid, are willing and able to protect our friends, families, and yes, perfect strangers like you and the parishioners of the New Life Church against evil doers if we have to.

One more thing you might not realize, self defense use of a firearm in this country happens thousands on times per year in the other 48 states that allow concealed carry, and most all of the time, not a single shot is fired!

I urge the Winnebago County Board to pass the CCW resolution proposed by Randy Olson and Doug Aurand so those of us who choose to, can level the playing field against the gang bangers and violent criminals in this community.

Gooch, Great letter, unfortunately if they limit it to 200 words, as someone said, you will have to cut it down to get it published.

I find it very hard to believe there aren't any letters that support concealed carry which the RRStar feels are worthy to publish. I would think they'd be flooded with letters by now. I remain convinced that the RRStar is trying to sway public opinion against our cause. I welcome anyone to prove me wrong.

Buzzard, I agree with you about the Rockford Register Star.  Maybe we should also send letters to the Rock River Times...it's a lesser known newspaper, but they seem to be gun friendly, or maybe just unbiased.

I also have submiited a letter to RRS, but it hasn't been published...imagine that.  I'm sure my blog post is also still awaiting approval.

Polhms1...I need to get your address...or I can give you some money at the meeting to help offset your cost with the buttons.

You have to call and ask when your LTE would be published. I believe my call pushed my LTe up in the que to be published.

Re: my post on the other thread, the LTE's concering CCW in Winn Co. is running 3-1 in favor, from what the lady at the paper said during my phone call. I see no reason there can't be more and more LTE's pouring in to up that ratio to 7-1, or even 14-1.

The 200 word limit is their limit, apparently. Unless you specify that your LTE could be considered a submission as a "Guest Columnist", in which case you get 600+ words. Those are a bit more rare, though.

Gooch, Great letter, unfortunately if they limit it to 200 words, as someone said, you will have to cut it down to get it published.

Arrrrrg....... Forgot about that damn 200 word limit. Ok..... here's the condensed version with 199 words.

Support Concealed Carry

By listening to the biased media in this community, one would be led to believe that everyone with a pistol strapped to their side is a criminal wishing to do harm to their fellow man.

To those poisoned naysayers, I pose to you the following question: When a law enforcement officer walks into the same room you are in, are you frightened because they are armed? I’ll bet the answer is NO, unless of course you are a criminal. That’s right folks, like the law enforcement community, we are the good guys with guns that, god forbid, are willing and able to protect our friends, families, and yes, perfect strangers like you against evil doers if we have to.

Self defense use of a firearm in this country happens thousands on times per year in the other 48 states that allow concealed carry, and most all of the time, not a single shot is fired!

I urge the Winnebago County Board to pass the CCW resolution proposed by Randy Olson and Doug Aurand so those of us who choose to, can level the playing field against the thugs, gang bangers and violent criminals in this community.

I strongly suggest that you remove references that are hostile to the paper itself - "biased media" - and the use of generally negative language - such as "poisoned."  You can also word your letter to suggest that those opposing carry are in the minority.  My suggestions are in bold below.

Support Concealed Carry

According to the opinions of a few people in this community, one would be led to believe that anyone with a defensive firearm strapped to their side is a criminal wishing to do harm to their fellow man.  But that is clearly untrue.

To those who hold such an opinion, I pose the following question: When you see a law enforcement officer with a defensive firearm, are you frightened because they are armed? I’ll bet the answer is NO (unless of course you are a criminal). That’s right folks, just like the law enforcement community, those of us with carry permits are responsible people who, God forbid, are willing and able to protect our friends, families, and even perfect strangers against evil doers if we have to.

Defense use of firearms happens thousands of times per year in the other 48 states that allow a right to carry, and most all of the time, not a single shot is fired!

I urge the Winnebago County Board to pass the CCW resolution proposed by Randy Olson and Doug Aurand so those of us who choose this responsibility can level the playing field against the thugs, gang bangers and violent criminals in this community.

I am sorry to be redundant with this post but I am trying to collect as many comments as I can to make a case for CC. Please accept my apologies in advance and PLEASE forward my website to all the people you can. The more support from around the state and country, the better we will be when the issue comes to the floor. Our next board meeting is on June 12th at 6:00pm. Help me Help you. If supporters would like to sign the guest book on my web site with a comment, I will take the comments to the Winnebago County Board meeting with me. go to www.fredwescott.com
