SCCY pistols

GLOCK22

Recommended Posts

I've been looking at these as either a backup CC or a pocket gun for summer carry in the 9mm. Anybody else here own or carry one of these? I'm looking for any feedback you might have, positive or negative. Also looking for recommendations regarding pros/cons of 115 vs. 124gr ammo, as I typically carry a .40cal. Thanks.

Too big for a pocket, IMO. Long, relatively heavy revolver-like trigger pull without the smoothness. But, for a pistol that is not a huge jump in price from a Hi-Point, they're great in the category/price range. The one I have used is accurate, reliable, and ate everything I fed it. There have been some torture tests on YouTube, and they are surprisingly stout.

If you want pocketable in 9mm, you need to look at things like the Sig P938, and others in that size range.

"Pocket Carry" is always a rather loosely-defined topic. Work pants like Dickies and Carhartts tend to have more voluminous pockets than a 550 Levis.

I also think the definitions are different for different people. IMO, just because you can stuff a gun in your pocket doesn't make it a pocket pistol. Some people give thought as to whether or not the gun can realistically be deployed from the pocket, others do not.

I actually did stuff a SCCY into the front pocket of my Levis jeans - no holster. I could easily see the entire back of the pistol almost extending above the pocket. It is a very tight fit and as you can imagine, it prints very obviously. I have to sort of get a pincer grip with my thumb and index finger to pry it out a little ways and then get a grip to pull the pistol out of the pocket the rest of the way. In my book this disqualifies it as a pocket pistol, in other people's estimation these characteristics don't disqualify it as a pocket pistol.

There isn't any official definition of what a pocket pistol is but I can tell you that at 5.7" OAL the CPX doesn't come out of your normal front jeans pocket easily or quickly, and this isn't even with a holster which would make things even tighter.

I haven't seen a double-stack handgun in a major caliber that actually works as a pocket-gun for normal jean pockets.

I have a CPX-2.

The trigger pull is long and "revolver" like. Which, IMO makes it good for a carry gun.

The magazine springs are tough - get a mag loader (Midway has one for $7.50) and let them set for a couple of day to "loosen up".

This is NOT a range pistol and is "jumpy" with the recoil.

I've run about 200 rounds through mine and have not had one issue so I'd say it's reliable enough for a carry gun.

All that said - mine is very accurate out to 7 / 12 yds. and is small enough to conceal well.

I was quite surprised at the machine work on the slide and other metal parts - very clean. Easy disassembly for cleaning.

Comes with 2 mags, a trigger lock and manual with a lifetime warranty.

Bottom lime - to me it's worth the money and is a perfect EDC handgun.

Honestly.. it is one of my best sellers and my son carries a Sccy as his edc. he has put a few thousand rounds through it so far and no issues.

Is there a reason why it’s one of the best sellers? Is it because it's the cheapest new gun in the store? Do you think the buyers know what they are buying or just want an affordable firearm?

I'd buy one to keep in the car if I didn't already have that base covered.

Cost is a factor absolutely. But for many it is the cost tied in with other factors. It is the lowest cost 9mm, but they like the lifetime warranty that comes with it. They also like having the double stack magazines. Many like the trigger on the SCCY. They like that DOA and feel like it is a safety in itself. The other thing we hear is people like the wide grip it has. But of course just like with anything else, all of it is subjective. Many of our customers we have let them shoot the SCCY before they purchase and still want it.

I personally am not fan of the SCCY.

I'll throw another positive yes for SCCY. I purchased a used CPX-2 for really cheap and it came with four magazines. I emailed SCCY to get a flush slide lock as I wanted carry it but didn't like the way the stock slide lock stuck out. They asked me to send it in for free updates. I paid the $14 to send it in, and in 5-days, I got my upgraded gun back. I've only shot around 500 rounds through mine, but it has never had an issue. Carries nicely. As others have and will say, it's not a range gun, but I do give it some range time just to remind myself what it feels like should I ever need it. Also, being a guy who likes revolvers, I don't mind the heavy trigger at all... I see it as the safety (CPX-2 doesn't have a safety). The only thing I did to mine was got some 600-grit sandpaper and smoothed the rough edges of the trigger a bit.

Reviving this old thread, SCCY CPX2 on sale locally for 229.00

Would someone talk me out of buying this so i don't get in trouble with my wife....lol

They're $209.00 at Seven Sigma Arms in Manhattan.

That’s a great price, the one I seen for 229 was at a Big R store, maybe I should hold off for awhile.

The Big R in Homer Glen just raised their price to $229.00. They were $209.00 about a month ago.

I know they intend the name to sound like "Sky" (but the vodka people thought the name was too close to theirs, so they switched to "C"s), but the extra "C" means that I always read it as "Sicky" instead.

It's supposed to be "sky"? lol. I always end up at "sucky". I've never shot one but the name makes me chuckle.

"sucky" also works as a pronunciation. :frantics:

I did have a chance to handle a used one at a local shop. The trigger pull was long and heavy, but relatively smooth. At least it was better than the stock DA trigger pull on a Polish P-64.
