Criminal Weapons ProsecutionsNumber Year-to-date 6,526Percent Change from previous year 11.2Percent Change from 5 years ago 68.7Percent Change from 10 years ago 36.6Percent Change from 20 years ago 126 The latest available data from the Justice Department show that during the first seven months of FY 2019 the government reported 6,526 new weapons prosecutions. If this activity continues at the same pace, the annual total of prosecutions will be 11,187 for this fiscal year. According to the case-by-case information analyzed by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), this estimate is up 11.2% over the past fiscal year when the number of prosecutions totaled 10,058. The comparisons of the number of defendants charged with weapons-related offenses are based on case-by-case information obtained by TRAC under the Freedom of Information Act from the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (see Table 1). Compared to five years ago when there were 6,632, the estimate of FY 2019 prosecutions of this type is up 68.7 percent. Prosecutions over the past year are higher than they were ten years ago. Overall, the data show that prosecutions of this type are up 36.6 percent from the level of 8,188 reported in 2009 and up 126 percent from the level of 4,948 reported in 1999. Figure 1. Each presidential administration is distinguished by the color of the bars. Leading Investigative Agencies"... IL missed the top ten list. Flynn Posted June 17, 2019 at 10:04 PM Share Posted June 17, 2019 at 10:04 PM Not surprised IL missed the top 10, as they migtht have to actually put criminals behind bars if they charged them with Federal crimes, easier to charge these misunderstood souls with a state or local ordinance to make sure they get home to their nurishing families by dinner time and can plead out to probation when the time comes. C0untZer0 Posted June 18, 2019 at 11:52 AM Share Posted June 18, 2019 at 11:52 AM Chicago carjackers are now being turned over for federal prosecution, and when they apprehend carjacking suspects and the suspects are in possession of a firearm, they're being charged with a federal crime instead of Illinois UUW. “We’re not playing around,” Johnson said. “If they want to continue to go out there and take the easy path to taking someone’s vehicle then we are going to take that (federal) path to punish them to the fullest extent of the law that we can.” -CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson - https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/breaking/ct-met-chicago-police-carjacking-task-force-20180204-story.html
