I will have my MOLLE on me in case the place I'm heading to is a gfz. Is it legal to clear the weapon and put it in the bag or should I plan on not carrying at all? As I understand it, it's legal to have a firearm with you in the parking area of a GFZ (other than nuclear power plants and federal GFZs). If you have a mechanism to clear your pistol and have it unloaded in a case that nobody can see to complain about, you should be good to go. However, I imagine any establishment would be perfectly within their rights to ask you to leave if they know about what you're transporting. They have money for me That being said, I ended up not carrying. Found out the building also has the Chinese Consulate. Unless you're sure that every place you might go is carry-legal, I'd leave it at home. 9 times out of 10 I'm in Chicago it's to go to Wrigley Field so that's a non-starter.
