Sen Don "Gun Grabber" Harmon upcoming town halls

From a Don Harmon eMail Blast:

Senate Bill 337, a measure I sponsored that regulates gun dealers at the state level, passed both the House and the Senate with bipartisan support. This legislation took into account the governor's concerns with the previous gun dealer licensing measure he vetoed and cuts red tape while still prioritizing public safety and cracking down on illegal gun trafficking.

Senate Bill 3256 would increase the waiting period to purchase all weapons in Illinois from 24 to 72 hours. Currently, while handguns are subject to a 72 hour "cooling off" period, assault weapons can be procured in only 24 hours.

Finally, House Bill 2354 would empower family members or law enforcement officials to alert the courts when an individual with access to a firearm is displaying threatening or unsafe behavior.

While we made progress, our work is far from done. There are still several gun safety measures pending in the General Assembly, and I hope we are able to address them when we return for veto session in November.

Upcoming town halls

I am hosting four town halls in the coming months to answer questions about the budget, recent legislation and other state and local issues.

The first is with Rep. Camille Lilly in Oak Park next Thursday, June 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Mann Elementary School Auditorium, 921 N. Kenilworth. Details are in the flyer below.

On Monday, July 9, I will join Rep. Lilly for a town hall from 6-8 p.m. at the Austin Public Library, 5615 W. Race Ave., Chicago.

I will hold another town hall with Rep. Lilly in Elmwood Park on Tuesday, July 17, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmwood Park Public Library, 1 Conti Parkway.

On Wednesday, July 18, I will join Rep. Kathleen Willis in Northlake for a town hall from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Northlake City Hall, 55 E. North Ave.

We have to work our tails off to defeat JB. If this guys gets in, it's game, set, MATCH for us. We'll be lucky if we're allowed to use a butter knife to defend our homes and loved ones.

Although I don’t want him as governor, I’m not sold on that theory. Obama had full control for 2 years and pushed nothing too radical.

They had no scapegoat if they did.

We have to be careful not to make the mistake of confusing national politics and Illinois politics. If JB wins we are going to see a push that will end one of two ways; either drive gun owners out of the state to "greener pastures" or to marginalize us by making us criminals. Either way, the antis will get what they want, more control. The antis in Illinois don't care about accountability. With PB&J in office I don't see anything improving for us!

One reason that bureaucrats and the left believe no one needs guns is they construct a world where they get what they want from people (even mercy from a violent criminal) by smooth talking, jiving, telling them what they want to hear, and of course the back room deals.

It's corrupt thinking to believe in an "f-ing golden" fantasy world where you control all the actions of people. They don't care who gets hurt, and would rather shift blame to those of us want to prevent bloodshed than to admit their fantasy construct of total control is false.

This denial of reality is what Illinois politicians have in common with the anti-gun whackos.

Birds of a feather (pronounced Pfleger, or Pritzker). What difference at this point does it make?

Well, I escaped HOSTILE territory with my scalp intact tonight...

I attended Sen Don Harmon and Rep Camillle Lilly's townhall tonight (6:30 - 8:30) in Oak Park
at Mann Elementary School's auditorium (921 n Kenilworth, Oak Park Il)

I have NEVER experienced such a large group of DieHard liberal progressive nannys in my LIFE!!
Attendance was 60 to 70, so was the age range, 65 - 80, late retiree,

When Harmon talked about SB337, towards the end of his "explanation" that ATF doesn't have the manpower to police the dealers,
I raised my hand. He KNOWS me and my agenda, but he called on me,
commenting that the crowd was probably a bit different than the crowd at Bensenville...

Lol - I said "I KNOW I'm in hostile territory"

I pointed out that these villified gun dealers who had fallen out of political disfavor for years - Chuck's Guns in Riverdale - had
been subjected to an UNPRECEDENTED compliance inspection just after the 2016 Presidential Election, involving ten to twelve
agents for THREE WEEKS, just ITCHING to find anything wrong - and had NOT been able to.

There was a little back and forth, and I formed an opinion - Senator Don Harmon DESPERATELY wants gun
sales information from the dealers. Ostensibly to find out if "HUNDREDS" of guns are being sold to the same person...
YES - HE SAID HUNDREDS.

I pointed out that ATF has a "multiple sales form" (that MUST be IMMEDIATELY faxed in) for things like that,
wouldn't that massive compliance examination seek to uncover violations of THAT reporting requirement as well?

I pointed out for the quiet but hostile crowd that these dealers cited are merely the closest dealers to the Chicago City limits,
and had many many customers from Chicago and that the law of averages
would show that stolen guns WOULD come from them disproportionately.

I also pointed out that gun owners did NOT condone or support the violent tragedies that the media has been harping on, but
that each and every time we get a LITTLE hope our legislators are doing something about it, that the language in the bills
has unintended (hopefully unintended) consequences with wide sweeping language that hits gun owners
disproportionately harder,
I pointed out that Governor Rauner's amendatory veto of SB1657 had a beautifully concise bump stock ban language,
and that had such language been in the bump stock bill, it may have had an easier passage.
Harmon played to the crowd there and dismissively said "that language came from the NRA"
- to which I said who cares who arranged the words if the law WORKS???

Time of the subject of guns barely added up to 5 minutes out of the two hours,

I just didn't press any further, and he moved on, to another non-gun subject,

When the Violence restraining order was reported passed out of both houses, to the crowd later on, the whole benighted bunch
burst out in clapping.
I looked CAREFULLY (I was not shocked) for non-clappers. Didn't find any...

Meanwhile I heard the sugary pop tax longed for, anger over the phone company's OK to drop running copper pairs to each
and every house, sugar regulation, restorative justice, old folks housing and a host of other nanny state issues, all universally intrusive in
controlling other people's lives. Guess the old folks were getting tired of not getting their way.

Of course at the start he was shilling for the progressive tax. And the crowd was eating it up.

edit - WARNING!!!!!!!!! the (lame duck) veto session is where Sen Harmon seems to be pinning his hopes of forcing the Gun Dealer act into law. Harmon seemed less focused on the other two bills - he didn't even MENTION SB3256 (72 hour wait) and HB2354 (order of protection) only rated a cursory comment...

Hopefully I didn't catch anything,
I AM well SELF vaccinated and have hard won immunity against the virus of progressive liberalism.

edit - here's a link to a Tribune ("Oak Leaves" June 19, 2018) article on the june 14th meeting:

Oh, they WEREN'T sheep. These were the petty dictator wannabe's, busybodies that see it

as their DUTY to FORCE you (NOT persuade!! Persuasion wasn't working!!!) to kowtow to their wacky ideas,

The types that gravitate to the top of REALLY ANNOYING homeowner's associations

and delight at being a pain in the (ahem).. And their "tattletale hall monitor minions"...

I feel sticky and slimy and itch all over, bad enough venturing into Crook county.

This quote could be used to describe the people in this meeting as THEY would be the ones described in the last line.

“Of all the tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences.” - - C. S. Lewis, author of the Narnia books

As an example of how that mindset ignores due process, several progressive suburbs have tried to pass ordinances that would force landlords to immediately evict tenants suspected of being involved in unlawful activity (by whose definition?). So, without a court order for eviction, an unarmed landlord should forcibly evict a suspected criminal - presumably without an armed LEO and police dog to assist. Ordinances are a fantastic tool when pretending to create a utopia. To that crowd, facts, reason, and consequences never matter.

He has an absolute contempt for the ATF. He claims that they refuse to work with Illinois law enforcement (literally said to my face) despite operating a field office here, putting their life on the line, and recently have been driving around a mobile ballistics lab.

He thinks the broke underfunded understaffed state of Illinois can do better then a federal agency in policing dealers, illegal guns, and a book of separate but equally complex nonsensical gun laws.

I'm not a fan of the ATF, but a little wannabe ATF fiefdom run by Harmon and his clowns is even worse.

This seems to be the overall trend with big city Democratic machines, they are seceeding from the union with their own set of laws, their own enforcement departments, and their own courts operating outside of the laws of the country. It's part of their overall contempt for the federal government for anything short of handouts.

Oak Park is not a big city.

The Chicago machine runs all of Cook County and Harmon is definitely a part of that. Grab a state lawbook and look at how all the laws have little carveouts for doing things differently in Cook County.

Oak Park, Evanston, and all those other surrounding areas are basically Chicago light.

They've also been trying to push their way to take over DuPage as well.
