John Q Public Posted May 17, 2020 at 07:11 PM Share Posted May 17, 2020 at 07:11 PM Well it looks like they screwed us again... In getting the PUA system for self emp and contractors, they exposed our data to the internet. Great, now we need to be worried about all our info, SS, DL, DOB and every other piece of info for identity thieves. Thanks IDES, we appreciate your due diligence. RandyP Posted May 17, 2020 at 09:18 PM Share Posted May 17, 2020 at 09:18 PM A few years back there was a credit reporting data breach (don't remember which one) and at that point I put a freeze on my info with all three bureaus. It does create a minor hassle when applying for a new car and such, but without my mega-character password, no one can access my report unless I temporarily release the freeze. That hopefully insulates me from some of dangers? Yes.... I'm also a 1099 independent contractor laid off due to Covid 19 and I applied with IDES for PUA on 5/11 as soon as the website went live. Hope my info isn't out there now?
chicagoresident Posted May 17, 2020 at 09:58 PM Share Posted May 17, 2020 at 09:58 PM The target now isnt credit, but unemployment. A bunch of Nigerian scammers are siphoning millions of dollars out of the unemployment system by filing claims for people that are working or stealing the unemployeds money. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8328055/Nigerian-scammers-siphoning-millions-dollars-unemployment-money-sophisticated-scheme.htmlTaking advantage of system weaknesses just like this. You wont find out until you get a letter saying you need to pay it all back. Or if youre unemployed you wont get your money because it will get deposited in someone elses bank account.
